I've taken the time to read the screenshots and his Open Mic on RacerXonline.com. First of all as a disabled person, I know that taking pills like he tells: “The bottle didn’t even have a label” is stupid. You take your pills in the original pill blister or bottle (that needs to be labeled) and you take the pills for the x days you will be in that country; so they know you’re no hustler selling dope. So first off, we need to say hallelujah that Mister Astephen didn’t came in touch with the well known Australian customs. But all those countries with all their different laws…
The second part: “Off Season” if you take part in the FIM World Supercross or Supercross of Paris, or the Australian Supercross you are racing in someone’s championship. And from the moment there is a race, you are in competition and can be controlled by WADA or more precise in this case ASADA (Australian Anti-Doping Agency). The question why there weren’t doping controls in Wales or Paris is a bit stupid, but if he really wants to know, probably because AFLD (France) and UKAD (United Kingdom) where doing other tests and Australia has some extra interests in Motorsports due Anthony West (Moto2) and the Moss Brothers. But because the Supercross of Paris is part of the SX Tour, the official FFM (French Federation) SX Championship, riders get tested there too. Back when Christophe Pourcel won the race on Sunday (and Cooper Webb crashed hard) he had a doping test. Nobody was furious, because it happens. FFM is part of the FIM and you know every official race can end up with a doping test. Same way with Brayton who could be tested at the Australian championship, because the MA is part of the FIM (like all National Federations) and he would be tested by ASADA. Because all National Federations, also the AMA are under the FIM umbrella and are working with the WADA rules. Rules applied by their local WADA governments such as USADA at AMA events. So in fact all professional races from the AMA Arenacross to the Slovenian Championship and … have uniform doping rules POINT.
What he tells about other sports is by the way totally untrue. Lets take NBA, because I know a thing or two about that. The American NBA have an own anti-doping protocol that is used by no other country. But other countries also play basketball. So if Mr. Astephen transfers a player to France, Costa Rica or Spain, he hopefully tells this player he’s now under WADA rules, if he gets it by than!
I have two kids in the testing pool.
You can be tested anywhere, anytime, for any reason worldwide. In or out of competition. Piss, blood, or both. Refusing a test is probably going to result in a fail and sanction.
Even if you quit or pull the "I'm retired" deal, before you can compete you need 6 months back in the pool. It says all this right on their website. How do these people not know this?
Motocross does not have a 6 month rule, as nobody is in a testing pool.
that is a combat sports thing, as you enter the testing pool. Like with Conor (which is why you’ve brought this up…). And even still, there’s exemptions.
Huh?
MX is sanctioned under USADA. Who play very nice with the FIM. Did we forget what happened to Stew already?

Basically as a combat sports athlete you do not have a “regular season” so when it comes to testing, you must enter the testing pool which allows them to test you 24/7 anytime anywhere. In order to fight, you (under most circumstances) need 6 months of testing. This once again is due to the lack of a regular season.
While in moto, we have a regular season. Makes testing much easier as we can just do it at sanctioned events.
basically, he’s talking about something that does not affect moto. We have had a handful of guys put in the testing pool over the past 15 years, but it’s usually 1-2 guys a year.
Agreed. From the little I’ve seen/heard from him he seemed very refreshing and professional in a sport that often is not. I was blown away by him saying what he did, that he didn’t know the FIM was involved. He seemed truly confused that the new “World Supercross” races were any different from the Paris SX. I really hope this is a one time mistake and not how he operates on a day to day.
I understood what a testing pool is, but they are not in the US for moto. Maybe Petro has kids in another sport.
WADA is who did that to Stew, Clason, Tickle etc. USADA does play nice with FIM, but has very different protocol and the sanctioning bodies here (AMA Pro) work with them on testing.
I find it too convenient that he brought that up while one of the biggest stories of the past 2 weeks has been McGregors return to fighting, and one of the conflicts being he needs to be in the testing pool for 6 months before he can fight. To me sounds like a guy trying to sound more involved than he really is lol
As you said, we don't have a testing pool. We have a regular season... meaning we test riders at sanctioned events. Occasionally a rider or 2 is put into the pool, but that's happened under 10 times in 50 years.
WADA had riders in a pool of some sort many times when they were the testing organization here.
Not as many times as you may think. Under 10 riders have ever been in the pool (5 off the top of my head), and it was only 1 guy a season
I want to know what his plan was if his google search of the drugs he was giving Ken came up illegal? With the way this off season has gone, Ken’s first step should be to find a new agent…
Telling the WSX series that paid his client (and thereby him) that it was "off season" probably was a kick in the nuts to those promoters and pretty clearly show that KR participated as a cash grab no different from any other singular off season race.
I'm not sure what was more dumb, the ignorance up front or not keeping his mouth closed after the fact.
You just put a huge target on your riders back!!!! 👍👍👍👍
I’d be interested to see if ufc break the rules for McGregor like they did with lesner. Mark hunt is still suing them over that
I should look that up, but in the past they've picked random 4 pro-riders. If that are 3 Canadian pro's and 1 Australian, we won't notice much. On the other hand I know that AC222 and Tommy Searle where at the selected four at a certain year.
Its also funny and sad at the same time that Steve Astephen clearly doesn't know that a TUE isn't emitted on local (USADA) level but by WADA itself, so you wouldn't have any problems with your TUE being accepted in one country and not in an other. So off course ASADA accepted the TUE for Ken Roczen his asthma inhaler, just like USADA does.
PS: About fight sports, they have indeed the 6 month testing period where you work with where-a-bouts, and they can be tested every day, for that one hour you chose in your where-a-bouts, and this 6 months long. In cycling they make a blood-passport so they can see if there is tempered with non-bodily testosterone and things like that.
Pit Row
Settled. Hunt lost the suit. He actually owes the UFC $400k now.
That’s my point about combat sports, they gave a testing pool you must be enrolled in for 6 months. But even then, exceptions are made.
Is that photoshopped? Hard to tell😂
He just boxed and knocked out an ex All Black rugby player , and said he was still fighting , Maybe I mistook it that he needed the money to pay the legal bill
If Kenny is in the WADA testing pool, I can assure you he will be getting a visit from USADA testers in the coming weeks. SA's interview put Kenny on the "suspicious" list, as well as all of Dr Lamay's other athlete clients. Unlabeled pill bottles, not knowing if prescriptions are legal, etc are not a good look for KR94. SA made a huge mistake doing the interview and should set his ego aside and hire a proper PR person to help KR94.
If they would've answered Ping/Whiskey Throttle Media their post with: "After some confusion, Roczen took the doping test". That would've been enough, but I've the idea that Steve Astephen have no clue what the FIM is and that he has no clue what WADA is. So he blames the FIM... But this could've happened in any "Off Season" race because tests are mostly decisions made by the local WADA Government, in Australia known as ASADA. At the Belgian Championship riders sometimes got tested at the race in Kester by "NADO Vlaanderen", and the race in Orp-Le-Grand was a standing appointment year after year for doping controls for professionals and even amateurs. These tests where organized by the WADA government of the French Speaking part of Belgium known in "ONAD Wallonie-Bruxelles". Yes in Belgium you have two WADA bodies, One for sports in Flanders and One for sports in Wallonia and Brussels.
'System' is right when he says its a bad look for our sport, Dr. Lamay and all his clients. On the other way this is maybe something fans need to see to believe: the agitation, restlessness that popped up when Ping started to talk about doping. There are sportsmen and women who abuse TUE to get marginal gains (not saying Roczen is doing it, I can only state that almost all cyclists use inhalers for this marginal gain). More urine-tests are useless but I'm really in favor for more blood, hair and urine sample tests. Because otherwise we give people with bad intentions and enough money a free pass to do everything what can't be seen in your urine sample.
Just an extra story to make the story from Astephen sound a bit more ludicrous. Most of you follow the MotoGP races, cool kid Jack Miller decided to raced the last race of the Australian Superbike Championship at "The Bend", after his MotoGP campaign. This to please his Australian fans. If ASADA are motorsport fans, Miller is maybe tested or could've been tested and this in his off season, what a darn disgrace!
Relax just because wada got a sample from someone. Doesn’t mean they will test it. If it’s a star rider they won’t reveal the test results or say he passed. Dr Bob talked about wada in-depth it’s basically a joke . As far as Stew failing someone wanted him out. No one really cares about any athlete but the Olympic sprinters. And they just don’t answer the door if the tester grow tired of them not showing up for test. Because everyone knows there doping heavy b4 events then they stop just in time to pass at an event.
I don’t know how SX/MX handle their testing, especially since the FIM’s not involved anymore, but it’s not just combat sports. It’s pretty much any Olympic sport.
https://www.usada.org/resources/faq/
It's any sport without a "regular season" like I stated earlier. Combat sports is just the most popular of the bunch, but Olympic sports are the same as there's a 4 year gap between games. For all of these, you enter the testing pool and can be tested at random.
It kind of seems like Astephen should done more due diligence of the WSX deal in general. It seems like not making sure HRC was cool with it before getting into a contract with WSX they couldn’t get out of painted Kenny into a corner for the coming year. Isn’t he regarded as one of the premier agents in the sport?
Right, but for any of those sports if you take yourself out of the testing pool you have to go back in it for months before you’re allowed to compete again. Even though there are 4 years between games the sports continue between, and the sanctioning bodies of those sports have agreed to follow the wada code at all times.
Of course, just as I stated earlier as well. Exceptions are also made though, look up Brock Lesnars ordeal, or the upcoming McGregor exemption...
