Just wanted to share the latest 3DP Moto project that I just completed, an electric converted 96 YZ250 aimed at competing in Endurocross and possibly some hard enduro races next year. I've been doing 3D printing and design work for my friends at Electro & Co. https://www.electroandcompany.com for a while now and we've had a lot of success building and racing electric conversions in the pitbike space, so naturally the next question was whether we could make a competitive full sized bike. We were able to find a decent rolling chassis to start with, and decided that it would be a good candidate for an off-road style build as a test bed before we attempt a more moto oriented bike. Our goal was to have the build completed for the final round of Endurocross in Reno, NV, and we made it with one day to spare haha.

The bike itself is really pretty incredible to ride. Not having a clutch or gears to deal with was a huge advantage for someone at my skill level on an EX course, and I was able to at least get into the main event for the EX Intermediate class. I started off strong and came around in 4th on the first lap, but after that I made some really stupid mistakes in the matrix section and got stuck for an embarrassingly long amount of time. The rest of the track was pretty straight forward, but the matrix in Reno was seriously tough! Our own Slipdog revalved the forks and shock with an offroad setup and got the spring rates as close as he could for the vague weight estimates that I gave him since I wasn't sure exactly what the bike would weigh when it was all said and done, and overall it worked extremely well! With some more testing and tuning I'm sure we can get it working even better, but for an initial outing the bike performed flawlessly and had zero controller faults or issues of any kind all day. The best part is all of the electrical components we used (wiring harness, controller, motor, etc.) are available directly from Electro & Co, so if anyone is interested in doing a conversion themselves they can be your one stop shop. We're considering offering this setup as a bolt on kit as well for the steel framed YZs if there is enough demand, so if you have one of these bikes lying around and are interested in converting it send me a message.

Gopro footage from the race:
Nice build! Looks like it works great too.
Much better at holeshots then ICE bikes as expected too.
This is so cool! What are the chances this bike does the full series next year?
Im impressed. How much dinero $ into that project?
I was at the race and it was spectacular to see an electric bike competing at that level! So cool and very impressed with how clean it turned out 🤙🏻 Let’s see that thing at Moonrocks!! So cool!!

What’s a ball park price on something like that ?
EX dudes are so out of their minds lol really cool build thanks for sharing
Such a rad bike to see in person. After seeing it in Reno a few of us want to try something similar.
Thanks guys, glad you enjoyed the build!
@Broseph I would love to do the whole series next year, but that depends entirely on my work schedule. I'm a full time ME and 3DP is just a side business so making the whole series would be tough, but I may be able to work something out.
@Darrin Willis There's probably close to $5-6K if I had to guess, E&C handled the financials on this one and I just did the design work. That's about the target price of the kit as well, which seems high at first but when you consider a Stark is $13k it puts it into perspective a little bit.
@eddie Kit price will likely be in the $5-6k range. It's expensive, but it's a much cheaper entry point into electric bikes then anything else out there considering a Stark and even KTM Freeride E are north of $10k. A lot of guys have these bikes lying around either blown up or in some form of disrepair, and this would provide a unique option to get them back out on the trail or even riding near their house since it's so quiet. I have an electric pitbike that I ride all the time in an open field in the middle of town, if they can't hear it people don't complain.
Awesome ride, awesome, awesome ride! You proved that an E-Motor YZ-Cassis is already competitive!
I moved into a Condo with a Storage Unit, so an E YZ is perfect. Would a used chassis with your Kit Work? And if so, what is an estimated cost?
Outstanding post!
Using cell phone and I did not see the estimate. Would you have a Line Item estimate costed out?
Awesome!
NOICE, mate! Love that kind of stuff tbh
