Wp suspension question

Edited Date/Time 11/18/2022 3:18pm
Looking at buying a used xc300 for some trail riding. Seller claims the front forks are closed chamber spring forks from WP. However the caps sure look like 4cs components. This is on a 2019 so stock would have been air. Any ideas?

The 4CS fork caps are black - so I would say they’re closed chambers.

Haven't been able to get a photo to load but they don't look like the caps on the closed chamber forks I have hell.

Hell, maybe that's not what I have either Tongue

OP seems to have different screws on top than those.

Thanks for the input guys. I stopped at enduro engineering on my way home from work and they were a little puzzled also. Protune in Ohio did the work. Reached out to them but haven’t heard back yet.

This is what my caps look like

That’s a different set up than I’ve ever seen.

Both caps look the same on these.

Those look like WP CC forks to me. What am I missing?

Are they any good? No experience with them.

One of the better forks KTM has put on a bike in my opinion.

Those are 100% closed chamber forks. Sounds like the seller is hooking you up!!!

Looks like he might be in your neighborhood. Know anyone selling a 300xc with these forks? Headed down tomorrow to check it out in Jackson Ohio.

Looks like it may be one of JMs bikes. If so, I’m his suspension tuner and will 100% say those are CC forks

Well damn the luck. What was the reason for these over swapping internals on the AER’s? Plan on doing some single track and maybe some harescrambles. My 450 is a bit big for that.

I did the swap on my 17 husky. Bought a used set of CC forks and had them valved/sprung for me. They mount right up just needed the older wheel and spacers. It was a way more affordable option vs buying inserts and changing lugs etc. Much better front end feel and bump absorption for me. You should be stoked on them.

If thats Corey from protune, he is a bit of a legend with the WP stuff. The CC forks are very good when set up well. Plenty of info on KTMtalk.

Thanks for the input guys. Headed to pick it up. Might swing by pro tune since it’s in the area.

The AERs I guess are better than the air forks Showa and KYB made (or so I am told), but they still feel like pogo sticks to me. I have a 22 450sx, and I can't get the forks to work for me no matter what I have tried to do (I have tried every air setting level, played with the clickers, etc. not had any professional work done on them though). They are fine on big hits, but terrible in the rough stuff, braking bumps, etc. Maybe I am doing something wrong...

I hop on my sons YZ 250F and those frigging SSS forks are AMAZING by comparison, and they are not even set up for my weight.... Coming down one of the big hills on our track I can barely feel the massive braking bumps, whereas on my KTM, well, lets just say I get a really good shoulder workout (which I do actually need).

KTM has never gotten their suspension anywhere near the same level as the rest of the bike IMO. Couldn't WP steal a few engineers from KYB and bring them over to Austria, lol?

Everything I have heard is they just feel different than spring forks. They work they just feel different and KTM/Husky/GASGAS work a LOT better than the others.

The Aers are no where near the KYB Psf1 fork ! Star still uses the Psf1 its really that good! It's a shame KTM won't just put the 6500 cartridge in the bikes.

As Brent above said, those are WP CC. I know Brent and Corey from ProTune. Top notch guys and those forks will be smooth.

yep that is cc forks, one of the best production forks out there i would definitely put them up there with KYB (aos) sss forks if the setup is right they can get even smoother than sss forks because they use a bladder insted of ics spring.

Because they'd lose a lot of back end revenue on all the Cone Valves and 6500 Inserts they sell.

Think about it....they got the best of both worlds....folks lined up out the door to drop $11,000-$13,000 on their new bikes and a big portion of those folks (Vet Riders & kids still on Mom and Dad's payroll from what I can see) then pony up a bunch more money to make the forks actually work good.

Win-win for Austria....why would they fix them?

I totally understand their engineered failure for profit! I just wonder how long it can last eventually people are going to figure it out that their Forks simply don't work without an upgrade!

Took the extra 20 mins and stopped and talked to the protune guys since it was that close. Sounds like they will be just what I’m looking for for single track May just need a spring change.

I had the same experience....This is why I just gave up on WP forks. Stripping the internals for a KYB cartridge swap currently.
