Long time lurker and first-time poster. My boy and I are picking up a new 250sx and 300sx in a few weeks. This is a big move for us. First time KTM(moving from yamaha) and moving to the 2 strokes. These new 2 stroke just look soo good.
For us, he can race the 250sx in the 250class and won't have the expense of a built 250F race engine. Any way enough with the excitement. As noted, we have been 4t for years and always used Amsoil for all lubricants. What is everyone's suggestion 2t mix and pump gas for these new bikes?
I use Amsoil dominator in all my 2t”s.. and will with this 300 as well. Manual calls for min. 95 octane mixed at 60:1. I will be mixing c12 with pump non E to arrive at around 95 …I”m not sure about the 60:1…..

Broke my 250xc in yesterday, IDK how many new KTM's I've had since 2005 (first one) but I'm gonna guess in the upper teen's low 20's. This bike is by far the best stock suspension I've ever ridden. In single track the bike feels like a bicycle, feels very narrow and turns with ease. The motor is amazing, no bog, torquey, fan the clutch and its snaps to life. It's also very smooth if you leave the clutch alone and let the torque work. I'm not an mx guy anymore, but these TBi 2stk will be a game changer for enduro and HS guys.
Beauty new ride, congrats! How is the suspension on rock and roots? Have you been on any harsh trails with it yet?

Just picked my son up the new 125. I'm seeing tons of guys getting their 300's but very few have the 125 yet. Just wondering if anyone is noticing a bog or cutting out at the top of the revs on the bigger bores? Obviously they're not revved out quite as much as the 125's but worth asking.

The 125 is awesome in every way except it cuts out bad at the top of the rev range (to a point it's unsafe to hit jumps). Seemed like a powervalve issue at first. All the way from idle thru mid range it sounds great, then right as you should be getting into the powerband she just signs off and starts sputtering. Tried to reset the powervalve limits using the little "wake up" tool that came with it. That seemed to clean it up a tad but it's still there.

Have a call in to KTM already but was just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like it on the new bikes.

The rev limiter is subscription only.

Yeah I ran that muffler on my 20 and loved it but I ran the fatty to get more top end. I’d be interested to see how the gnarly performs but I doubt the bike needs more bottom haha. Plus I like the factory fatty because looking cool trumps all lol. Post up the muffler when you get it on!

do you happen to know if the ti silencer fits the 250s? it just shows up in the Ktm power parts for the 300, but I thought all the pipes would be interchangeable between the 250s and 300s.

It’s been very hard seeing all the post of people getting their bikes and I’ve been sulking around the house waiting for my 300 to show up so my wife wrote me a song to cheer me up. Enjoy

That is what the manual says for 250/300. The 125 gets a 10 heat range plug though. The carb 125 has a 9.

I rode it Wed on some single and double track trails in northwest GA, had a good mix of roots, rocks and small drop offs. Suspension felt good, I'm a vetB guy 215lbs, I put a 48 spring on the rear 134psi in the forks to start the day. Came back after about 7 miles and checked sag, I was at 100mm, dropped it 105mm and raised fork psi to 137. That ended up being the wrong thing to do for me, forks were a little too stiff for my liking after dropping the rear. I've got an enduro Sunday and I'll drop the fork psi back down to 134. I think for now I'm leaving all the clickers alone until the suspension gets fully broken in. Right now I've got 1.6hrs on the bike. My only complaint with the bike is the seat, its hard as a rock. I'll either replace it with a guts soft or the hardparts comfort seat soon.

I get to pick up my 300xc tonight. The seat on my 350sx is awesome! It felt hard as a rock at first but I rode a 2 hour hare scramble and it was actually pretty comfy. The stock suspension was all over the place for me on the 350 so I swapped in the KYB kit. I’m really hoping I can make this air stuff work for the woods because I’m not a big fan of having to buy another set of KYB internals.

I read somewhere that guys thought the new frame better suited the 2stks vs the 4stks. I can't say because I haven't ridden another 23 model besides my own. I nearly bought the 250xcf because I love the small bore 4stks, my style tends to suit that motor but I'm a 2stk lover at heart so I waited. Glad I did, I love this motor paired with the TBi setup. In recent years I've preferred the 300 over the 250, but for me I can't see wanting anymore power than this 250 has. I think the 250 will be easier to race for some folks depending on your style. One of the older guys I ride with is quick for his age but rarely gets on the pipe on his 300. For someone like him the new style 300 would work well I think, fat outta shape vet guys like me that like to rev might want to consider the 250 Laughing

Good info on the seat, thanks.

My deposit is actually on a 250 but I let the dealer have the first one. I’m jonesing for this new bike and he got a 300 delivered without a timeframe of when the next 250 will be there so I figured I’ll take the 300. It will be my hare scramble and woods bike so I don’t have to keep messing with my 350 between Moto and woods. Im hoping to get it out Sunday.

I remember you posting that 250 and me telling you to tell him to piss off lol. My dealer was only allocated one 250, but got three 300's. I got his only 250 and I couldn't be happier. Good luck with the new bike, they are sweet. I'll be at gobbler getter Sunday having a ball I hope.

I saw you posted earlier that this is the best out of the box ktm suspension yet. Have you ridden a 21-22 stock tpi bike. I had one and thought it was too soft. I was wondering if they have gone stiffer for the ‘23 more like the Japanese xc bikes are.

I have not, the last KTM I rode prior to this one was a '19 300xc. And by "tpi bike" your question is a little open ended. KTM tpi bikes are both xcw and xc, the xc have the air fork and linkage, the xcw are pds and xplor forks.

In my experience in the MC industry the ES is a cheap junk plug that will foul easily. Testing my memory but I think it was a BR8EGV that I ran. Wasn't it by running a Non R Resistor plug would messed with the ignition.

Yea I’ve been on some nasty slow speed stuff and the bike just performs so good, instant snap when you want it to get over logs but then also bogs right down to chew up the nasty stuff it’s insane, it just snowed here now so I’m happy I got out twice before the year ended here

BR8EV was the upgrade plug for the BR8ES.
I remember the BR8EGV, I believe that one was a newer bike stock plug, possibly relating to the ignition issues you speak of.

The BR8ES plug is inexpensive, but I have never had one in a FI bike, but they did seem to foul up with improperly jetted 2-strokes from the late 70’s- early 80’s.
I’d think KTM put them to the test and had no issues, or the bikes would require another $30 spark plug.
I’d rather pay more and not think about it.

My powerparts Mx skid plate came in… picked it up & figured this should be quick install…. Good lord! WTF the rear mounts holes are impossible to line up for the bolts to start… tried every configuration I could come up with… ended up using different rear mount washers, did not want to strip out the frame threads… I used 2 chain slider washers, gave me more wiggle room to start threading the bolts in… maybe after it gets pounded a bit I will be able to use the special washers the plate came with… 1hr later I” m done…😂
