I can't believe there are "fans" who don't understand the heritage and reverence of the event. And I really can't understand a top rider not wanting to represent the very country that allowed them to accomplish what they have.
I didn't know that you were trying to get James to sign up for military service...............

Either way, there are plenty of other riders that can ride for the team.

Since we can't sent our 'A' team (JS, RV, RD...who would without a doubt go 1-2 in every moto)...I say we send Justin Brayton MX1 , Jimmy Albertson MX3, and Kyle Cunningham MX 2...Simply for the sake of message board bantering.

There would be no "post race message board argument" downside for the American fans if that was the case.

If we win...we get to smear the GP's for another year...and there is nothing the GP fans would be able to say back...they just lost to 10th place AMA riders (in the points).

If we lose...so what? We sent 10th place guys we weren't expecting to win. The GP's fans can't really gloat or claim they're a better series...we weren't expected to win (we sent 10th place AMA riders)...

Really, AMA, you should consider that...just for the sake of the message boards.

I'm thinking the X Games is going to take the title of "most important single race in the world wide sport of motocross." Television numbers won't even be close between the two events. The world will see X Games while only some core audience will see the MXdN's.

Now, if people gave a damn and everyone threw their resources behind the MXdN, then maybe your claim would be true.

Bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp... (Tedesco)

Bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp... (Dungey)

Bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp, diddy-diddy bomp... (Grant or Goerke) that little drum solo at the end threw me, but I'm going with Grant.

Imagine trying to figure out the jungle drums if Alessi was still in the running. Wink
No judgements here, just observations.

There seem to be two sides of the ethics issue about not riding the Nationals and being chosen for Team USA, with both sides having some pretty strong feelings about their respective side of the coin. That's why I put the top 2 U.S. teams out there (my opinion only) considering both.

If one takes the position that it's "fastest rider no matter what" then the team should include Stewart. If one takes the postion that "how can you ride for the Motocross de Nations team when you don't even ride motocross", Stewart should not go and the team composition would be different.

Ultimately, we won't be making the decision about who goes. It is out of our hands. The only way to remove controversy from this process is to go with the argument that others have made, which is:

MX1 450 National MX Champion (or top U.S. rider in 450 class points)
MX2 250 National MX Champion (or top U.S. rider in 250 class points)
MX3 450 National MX Runner Up

with some wiggle room on the MX3 pick.

Personally, I don't see how we can't at least ask Stewart to go...There is no doubt that he is the fastest rider in the country, no doubt AT ALL.

America owes it to him to ask him.

If he say's he wants to go, and will make a commitment to be "ready", he goes. No questions asked.

All this "he didn't race the nationals" stuff would be a valid argument ONLY if there was even a hint of question as to whether or not he was the fastest rider in the world. As it stands, there is no question at all about who the fastest rider in the world is...James Stewart...so he should go if he wants too.

IF the question were asked "whos the fastest rider in America?" and there was even a debate...then he wouldn't be a given for the MXdN if he wasn't racing the nationals...but come on people...we all know he's the fastest...he should go.

Just my .02...

How quick you all forget: IT has won the MXDN's in the past. A great pick along with Dungey and Grant. We have a solid team and a great chance.

When is the MXdN Bake sale start? Just curious who's paying for all the expenses this year?

If it doesn't matter where you finish in the nats then we should look at the financial side of it since we are in a deep dark depression. The ISDE guys will already be over there so let them race. Especially since three off road guys have already scored points this year. Dietrich, Bonds and, Brown. Podium team if ever there were one.

James has twittered that he would go to MXdN. Anyone questioning if he or the bike is ready is kidding themselves. He'd do fine on a YZ125.

dungey, grant and tedesco seem like good choices.

but we should expect some inconsistency if we are using the US nationals as a gauge.

my predictions:

dungey 1 - 8
grant 1 - 20
tedesco 7- 7

is that enough to win?

Man I would walk over hot exhausts to see RC ride one last time.

I was lucky enough to see him in the mud at Foxhill in 97, but 80,000 of us turned up hoping to watch him ride at Matterly in '06 and unfortunately it didn't happen. He got such an amazing reception when they interviewed him up in the commentary tower, I hope at that moment he realised just how many fans he has across the globe.

To be fair though, a team of RC, Stewart and VP would have been one of the strongest teams ever to have contested the Motocross des Nations. The MX1/MX3 race would have been epic!!!

How a person on earth can claim to be a fan of mx after saying he don't care if team US attend the mxDn or not makes no sense for me. I smell other issues, maybe Freud can work on that...

I think it's very cool despite what team US sends. If they go for the B-team, it's cool because then it will be a fantastic experience for those going, and the outcome will be mind boggling for sure!

Of course Stewart should go if possible. Probably the fastest rider "on the planet" right now, and to imagine him sitting in front the telly eating popcorn while this event take place is just preposterous.

But if he doesn't want to go (idiot), well good for Barcia.
I guess your talking about me without really my name.

Here's my thoughts...In the past we have had really fast guys who have chosen not to go. Now if the riders themselves don't care, why should I. We don't get to see it on TV here, and if we do it's months later. I seem to remember MC and Windam not going a few times when they were clearly the best we had. I know they both have gone, but they didn't go as much as the could of.

I'm not a big fan of any sports that have the U.S. against other countries except the Olympics. World Baseball Classic, World Cup Soccer, Ryder Cup, none of it really matters to me, and I watch golf and love baseball.

No other issues here, just don't see the big deal. I figure the fastest motocross guys are already here racing on Sund..er.... Saturdays.

I was never a big fan of the race anyway but really kinda of soured on the whole thing when Monster came in and sponsored the team, which all the riders happen to be under contact with Monster at the time. It's not about picking the fastest or most qualified, it's about picking someone the sponsors like. I get it, they are putting up the coin, and should have a say, but don't tell me it all just worked out that way.

My mood actually gets affected when the guys I like have a good or bad day in mx. I just don't see the draw with the MXdN.

So James is an idiot if he doesn't go, and I need some help from Freud? Ok buddy.

Dave dude,
I bet Dungey would do great over there on a 450 in MX3 (Alessi's bike)!

And Barcia is hungry and would be really fun to watch in MX2,the kid has world class speed.

However, we would still need a Team Captain. Smile
And of course my choice would be Stewart,so why don't you make this team happen and light a fire under James and get him to show. The entire world of MX would be greatfull,if you could make this happen.

Like I said before. I like the Grant, Dungey and Tedesco team. I think they'll do great. If they don't win though... I wouldn't be too bummed. They're up against good competition this year.

It's really too bad the whole mentality behind this event seems to be that if the Americans lose then it's a win for the rest of the world.... but it's only that way bc the Americans have been so dominant in the event. So I suppose they brought it on themselves? It really does put a lot more pressure on these guys to do well than say a team that's not won the event or not won in a while.

I actually think Australia has as good a shot at the win as the Italians or even the Americans (I'm sure there are other teams as well with a shot). It'll probably be the most competitive MXdN in a while.

I said the most important not the most watched. I have never watched the x games but think that is the big skateboard and bicycle thing right? Blake Wharton is racing the sx class there. He has never even raced sx on a 450. Sound like a real high caliber event with massive prestige for the coveted x games gold. Who is the defending x games champion? Oh yeah Josh Hansen. Nuff said.

We always talk about how slow the "world" is versus US moto... Now, this is a thought, and really just some bait to get a conversation going but what if we sent the top 3 guys from LL's? Any of the top LL riders could line up at a national and make some noise... We wouldn't win, maybe, but those kids would really dig it and who knows...

It would be a hell of a lot more fun than sending a second tier team.

word x2 .

thats a good team . grant is the fastest american 450 rider that is not injured/couch sitting ... dungey is a no - brainer .... tedesco is a smart pick because of his experience at the mxdn . maybe short is as fast , but sending three mxdn rookies would not be a good strategy imo . team usa carries a lot of pressure on their shoulders so having at least one experienced rider is a must i think . they have an excellant chance of winning ... maybe italy a slight slight favourite due to home crowd advantage .... but you never know ... that could work against them too . australia should be real strong too . this could be a CLASSIC mxdn ! i am stoked !

Problem is you have "dad" in your screen name so...

The most watched is the most important. The X Games are growing where moto is concerned and the fact it will be aired live, and aired ad nauseum till the end of time makes it more important.

Look at the guys there this year. You see a trend? Next year, all the top guys will race it.

Personally, and I am on your side with this, I LOVE the MXdN. I just would like to see more support for it.

Mxdad you are 100% correct!

MXDN is the most important race in the world of motocross.

Even though the race has always been USA vs The World, when we send a guy a over there
like Stewart ,RC,Pastrana etc. and we win. It is a win for the entire world of MX!
Because guys like Stewart,RC,Pastrana etc.. have many many fans around the world.
I would say that in every country attending the event 90% of it mx fans are also fans of guys like Stweart & RC.When top guys like Stewart or RC refuse to go , it is really a slap in the face to the fans all over the world that love the sport of motocross!

The XGames is a Supercross...it is not REAL OUTDOOR MOTOCROSS!
It is like comparing apples to oranges.

You see, the XGames is a product of ESPN,they have done wonders with many other sports also,Pro Bass Fishing,Pro Red Fishing,Pro Shark Fishing,Spelling Bees,HotDog eating contests etc. They put a great deal of resources/money behind it to make it successful. If ESPN would even touch the MXDN it would be huge for the sport of outdoor mx.However,I do not ever see that happening.
