DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
I decided to do something a little different for the forks. I did get the AER air cartidge installed in the left leg but I decided to keep 1 ohlins cartidge in the right leg. I know this is what coppersmith does, I talked to them about my idea of making my own kit and having him revalve this cartidge for me. They told me no. The smart person would just sell it all and buy the coppersmith kit, im not a smart person though. I don't like hearing no. I decided I am gonna do it anyways haha. We will see how it goes. I like to experiment when it comes to suspension, I have modified pretty much all my mtb forks in the past. I have designed and made my own airsprings before and would like to do the same for the AER cartridge. I think moving to a 3 chamber setup could possibly improve performance but I think that is a project for a later time. I want to just ride for now.
Got the the factory carbon chain guide in, had to grind the swing arm for it to fit. Also got my P3 carbon mud flap in. All the carbon just looks soooo good. Ignore the sprocket, It will get replaced with a carbon one once I pick what gearing I want to go with.
I had to modifiy the scalvini bracket for the 19+ silencer to fit with the 16-19 pipe. Looks pretty good though I think, I will end up getting a 19+ pipe eventually. Just waiting to pick one up in Ti.
Here is a few more phone pics of the full bike. They didn't come out that good. I need to get the nice camera out and get some good pics once its wrapped up. Waiting on a few more small parts but hoping to get the first ride in on it this weekend.
Got graphics ordered too which I am stoked on.
Haha no I can never finish projects, I love building bikes almost as much as riding and I am constantly changing things. I think I have repainted some of my MTBs 3 or 4 times because I like to change it up every so often.
I do still have a list of things I want for this build and some other cool stuff in the works too.
I have a TSP billet head on the way
I have a company lined up to do some engine work at end of season
Powder coat frame
ZRT billet throttle
GET ecu
bunch of ti bits
carbon bits
plenty of more stuff I am forgetting
I have those wheels I bought I might break down and recoat them and put them on this bike too. Im thinking of mabye doing blue hubs, not sure if those would look good on this or if I should do something else?
Long term goal is CRM Carbon subframe and tank
I also have a fair bit of parts I would like to design and machine for this. I just finally purchase my own CNC and am hoping to mabye make some products for these bikes. One of which is on the 3d printer right now making a proto, hopefully I will have something to show for that soon!
Here is a little Instagram clip of a creek crossing at my home trail I have been working on. So far very happy with the AER/Ohlins hybrid forks!
This is the current project
The pics wont upload but I have 3d printed a few different protos, getting close now though.
This is where we are currently at now. Printer is running currently on latest proto. Final one will be 3d printed out of 17-4PH1 Stainless. Possibly machine one out of titanium but I think I can get just as good weight with the 17-4 3d printed as I could a 6AL-4V TI billet one.
new fuel line and added some P3 frame guards
Pic of a little log jump at the home trail
I did some heat tape on the airbox, Im sure it literally makes no difference but had some laying around and thought it would be cool well I had the airbox off anyways.
I also went from a 3.9kg spring out back to a 4.5kg and just doing a few laps around the house it feels much better. Added more air to the forks to match and the bike just feels more nimble now. Need to get some other trails this weekend and see but I am pretty sure I will be very happy with it.
Also got some glamour shots in the paint booth
TSP head installed
Also got the other frame cerakoted at the shop. I will swap everything over to it maybe next week.
just got in Luxons new rear caliper bracket as well. Super trick part like everything Luxon makes.
I think this build is coming close to an end for now. I am planning on trying to get my hands on a 2023 chassis maybe next year or so to swap this motor into. Make my own 23' 150 carby. That is aways off though. For the time being I am looking at a new frame up project. Ill post about it more if I end up pulling the trigger lol
Thank you for the brake line holder..
Pit Row
Scored this ohlins steering damper for $100 off ebay. Never ran a damper but always wanted to try it. Going to have to machine custom mounts for it so that will be a fun little project.
As far as the next build goes we are gonna double the deplacement. It will be another restyle but this one will be much more then just bolting on different shrouds
I made some mounts for my Unic Damper - THE original version of the Ohlins / Scotts damper - when I fitted WP CC forks to my CRE500:
Made so that in any of the 4 bar positions, and 2 steer tube offset options, the center line of the damper was in the center line of the steer tube, so it's got multiple mount points for the damper. Going for the shared center line, stopped wear on the sweep arms, that I make myself also.
With the PHDS mounts, to keep Bar height correct for me (running Renthal 999s) , I had to present my beloved 1988 damper to my mill, to get clearance for the PHDS clamps , and its bar 'travel'. It was a bit scary hoeing into the Unic, especially when my baffled old Bear Brain turned the handle the wrong way on a cut, and the tool caught and jammed. I thought I might have 'killed' the Unic - thankfully, I hadn't.
I've used the Unic since 1988, on many different bikes, with never a problem, or parts , other than replacing sweep arms, and doing innumerable quick, simple oil changes. An amazing product that I won't ride without.
Oh, that weird alloy 'box' to the left / above, is a carrier / protector I made for a speedo / odometer, years and years ago. It was originally to the front of the forks, but I put it to the back when I fitted the WPs. Most of the time I do superb work ( if I do say so myself
Not sure how I am going to mount mine yet, I might end up machining a custom top clamp for my luxon fatbar 36 mounts. Idk I am waiting for it to arrive before I decide anything.
So I got the spare frame cerakoted. Now It was not a 150 frame, it was a 250 factory edition fame. I had seen some people claim that the 150 and 250 frame are the same, I looked at the mounts and they looked the same. Like an idiot I didn't look into it any farther then that and just assumed they were the same for some reason. That was stupid lol. I got everything swapped over and the motor doesn't fit.
So yea all that work was kinda for nothing. I mean the one good news is now my old frame is completely tore down so might as well give that some fresh paint now. I think there might be a little too much white going on for my personal taste but I got a few ideas I think will end up looking really good.
Here is a pic of it after a wash last weekend. Got a 60 mile ride in on it.
Last but not least a sneak peak at the next build. Will be needing a lot of parts but the spare frame will not be going to waste
Here it is with primer layed down
Got the ohlins damper in
Also picked up some acerbis frame protection. I wasn't too happy with the frame stickers. Didn't seem to have that much grip and also didn't protect the frame as much.
You can see the poor 150 trying to fit there lol
Also got some more parts for the 300 build
It is going to be a vintage looking modern build. Idea I had been toying with for a little bit. I wasn't going to go this old but a buddy told me if I am going to do it to go way back. Then this popped up and I was for sure sold on the idea.
I am going more for the Husky look though
I have more parts for both bikes I haven't taken pics of yet, also planning trying to get the 150 mostly back together tonight. So I will have an update soon. I should probably make a new thread for the 300 too
For next season Ill be doing some non white plastics so its not so much white. Also contemplating a black swingarm. Unsure though, im not usually a fan of colored swingarms
Picked up this Nihilo carbon skid plate for cheap off ebay. Its missing the front hardware but I can make up something for that pretty easy.
I wish that the Nihilo logo could be removed but its not just a sticker that peels off.
It also doesn't fit quite right. its hitting the tab for the exhaust mount, so I am going to have to grind it down or something to get it to sit correctly. Id be pretty upset if I paid the retail $300 for this thing.
Also got these rad guards back on
Had to cut up the gas gas shrouds a bit to get them to bolt up, no biggie
Its already not the best bike for the dunes but the lower gearing and no paddle tire really made it worse. I was in 6th gear pinned the whole time. Still had fun, bike did not have as much fun. Definitely needs a top end refresh but it made it out alive and I still had a good time.
haha it is only a top end, I was fully prepared for it to blow up on me well I was there. Not a big deal, I am trying to hold it out a few more months because the motor is going to get tore down this winter so we can have some fun. Rather just do a fresh top end then but if it gets worse then I will do it before hand.
have the old spark arrestor muffler on still from the dunes.
Went for a ride with my dad. Nice chill day. Got a few clips on the Gopro
Threw on this retro style headlight.
Think I am going to get new number plates with yellow backgrounds. here is a very rough photoshop. Also toying around with the idea of just doing a retro style graphics
Also put on a new throttle setup. Replaced it all with the 21+ stuff. I think I am going to pick up a ZRT Throttle tube to go with it all as well.
Got this super rad 1744 Creations Ti cone pipe and a Pro Circuit Ti-2 silencer. The silencer si actually for a pre 15' 150 but positionally it fits well but the mount doesnt not line up. I can make a bracket pretty easy to make it bolt up. I do like that this silencer is quite a bit shorter then the ti-2 for the correct years of my bike. I need to get all the correct mounting hardware for this pipe because it is an 18+ but for now here is a mockup that is drool worthy. Such a sick part, truly a work of art.
