Didn’t go watch qualifying, but I’ll be out there tomorrow for the race. Been threatening to rain most of the day in Nara (about an hour from the track), so hopefully it’s not a slopfest tomorrow.
Keep us updated!!!

I don’t know what it is, but I really love Jo. I find myself pulling for him over anyone in the 250 class. Between Jo and Jett, the future looks nice. Two awesome guys on and off the track.

Hard to believe they are still only at round 4 in September.. they kicked off in April. The Japan nations are all screwed up. The season closing Japan MFJ GP isn't until November this year.

To be fair, there are a lot of people that wear them in Japan on a regular basis, long before the pandemic. I remember I flew into Japan on January of 2020 and everyone had on a mask. It looked totally normal because it was exactly the same way as any other time I've flown there.

It’s been normal for decades to see people wearing masks in Asian countries. It’s been a thing there way before covid.

Cool track, looks like Glenn Helen lite, surprised at how arid it seems. Joe is riding for Kawasaki R&D, does that mean he has really trick parts like MXGP or are the bike rules similar to AMA in the U.S.?

Looked like Joe lapped up to 9th with a crash. On another level for sure.

I know he was on the current ‘22 race bike and not the ‘24 pre-production the #3 Kawi R&D rider was on.

Jo was up about a minute on second place when he crashed. For those that don't speak Japanese...in the post-race interview, he said it was a bad high-side crash and just managed the gap for the rest of the race after. Looks like the crash shook him up a bit, but said he feels fine with no injuries.

The double he was doing before the finish was impressive how he was hitting the downside on the last turn. Looked big and a bit sketchy. No one else was doing it and he stopped after the crash. Cool to watch though.

I'm excited to see when he moves up full time. At this point I have more confidence in him being a solid 450 rider for Kawi than Forkner. Could get interesting if AC is still on the team when it comes time for Jo & Forkner to move up and they might have to make a choice between the two because it doesn't seem like they really want to run a 3 rider program.

Joe still has some time in 250s. He is still really young and won’t point out for a while.

Jo Shimoda is probably the best Japanese MX rider since Akira Watanabe.

They’re changing the rule for this year, I forget what it was but Matthes said it’s a championship and one defense I believe. No pointing out

Joe got a bad start in the second moto. Charged through the pack and won easily.

The jump before the finish line was more tabletop than double, but it had a weird dogleg to the left that made it sketchy. In the 2nd moto, Tomita tried it for the first few laps, but almost launched himself off the track every time Jo greased it pretty much every lap he could - lappers and passing for position made it really difficult.
