#4 all time, with 4,7 and 2 ahead of him. Ryan Villopoto is ahead because had he been healthy he would have at least 4 outdoor titles to match Supercross. But Eli’s longevity is one his strongest traits and the fact that he was there to battle is important, but that also means he was beaten straight up a couple times. His competition was all time as well though, mostly battling the Diesel his entire career and one of the most naturally talented riders ever in Roczen.

RV had a lot of injuries but Eli was looking next-level when he wrecked his shoulders in Colorado. And didn't he barely lose a SX title to RD even after some mishaps? Was that the years his pants came undone?
Man what might have been that year if Eli hadn’t wadded himself, that was speed like I don’t think I’ve ever seen. It was incredible and yes he did lose to Dungey due to a wardrobe malfunction 😂

3rd overall.
If he wins SX next year 2nd on Rushmore.
He’s tied for 2nd overall wins in outdoors with Dunge.
Won on 3 brands!
Can go to second overall in SX next year but probably 3rd all time Sx wins.
Across both categories he’s on the podium of All-time.

1 is obvious, 2-5 you could make arguments for each guy being 2nd and IMO could move around easily.
Can’t put Stew lower than 6th I just can’t you could make a case for Eli above RD but Dungey’s bad days where 4th. Eli’s are 11th. Too many bad days to put Eli above RD.

Another thing is Wins get brought up to much and not Win percentages. Modern guys have more races for the most part. For Example Hannah won 27 SX races in his career. But if you plug his win percentage from 77 to 79 in todays 17 race season he would have won 27 in those years alone.
One more season of peak Tomac, which we will fortunately likely experience, probably places him atop moto Mt Rushmore. Man, I have enjoyed watching him ride.

No, you think people rank Trent Dilfer or Brad Johnson over Marino?

Sorry "top" may be a pure terminology overstatement. All heads on Rushmore are near the same elevation. But there could be some adjustment, purely on the specifics.

The guy has 6 freakin' titles and raced against some really bad dudes. He's got to be in the 7-8 range IMHO... And nothing against Reed, but I don't think he belongs on a top 10 all time AMA list.

If MC is in there he would be my vote to be removed. Greatest Supercross rider of all time no doubt, but didn’t win shit outdoors, COULD HAVE but was so good at supercross he could party all summer in Havasu and still wax the field. That says something about his talent and the fields.

He does have one outdoor title and take away his foot injury would have had 2. For someone that “didn’t try” he was pretty amazing honestly.

It’s hard to reconcile these lists, really should be era based lists vs all time.

I think the best way to compare would require looking at win percentage, championships, and looking at competition for each rider.

RC is #1. From there I would have to look at stats. I think looking at stats might change some opinions. Tomac while great, also has higher numbers from racing longer. RD had 1 sx title before Villopoto retired. Stewart was phenomenal on a 125, but on a big bike outdoors he didnt do as well (racing RC I know, but still).

Competition can be fairly subjective though. Without someone like McGrath dominating the way he did others would probably be elevated. If Windhams career wasn’t with MC/RC where wood he rank?

to me, championships mean more than race wins, he is now top 5
alos doing the double with a SX and MX title in one year as all the other top 5 guys have,

RC with 15
RV with 9
MC and RD with 8
Eli now with 7 with RJ and Wardy,

Perhaps. When your talking about these Legends your splitting hairs. One knock against Eli is outside of pre injury Roczen and After Dungey none of these guys should have beat him for titles. Webb, Anderson, Ferrandis and Osburne specifically. IMO he’s so much better then them overall. Sexton this summer would have been the first title in since 16-17 that he could have lost to a rider of equal caliber. At least for a season. But really after RC at 1 it’s all opinion and there really is no right answer as to who goes where.

Ehh.
KW, JS, and CR Had to race RC.

RC had to race JS, CR and KW.

How many wins would either of the 3 of them have without just 1 of the other

My ties can go either way.

RC was the best ever MX, MC was the best ever SX. Both have numbers that will never be touched.

My #4 rider could switch at any time depending on what you value:
Dungey, consistency
RV, he won most titles he was healthy for
Tomac, Beast mode and number of wins/titles are moving up
Reed, longevity and number of wins

Hannah and Johnson are both basically the same guy just about a decade apart.

Wardy at #10 is basically criminal.
