Growing up in Texas in the '70s was pure bliss. Riding moto and hitting the nationals at Rio, Hi Point and Ponca were the things dreams were made of for this minority kid. Now that I'm retired, the Mrs. and I are taking a trip to Europe. When our travel agent contacted me and asked me what I knew about Belgium, I told her nothing other than that's where Superman is from. There was a long silent pause.....and I told her it was a childhood hero reference. That being said, are there any monuments to "The Man" in or around Brussels? Thanks in advance.

...Brussels ain't exactly a pretty town, unless you like graffiti, dirt and trash, and old beat down homes.

I would say that the most beautiful place in Belgium is definitely the Limburg.

Try to make time to get to Namur, you can still walk the old track, it will take your breath away.

Also if possible do go to Bruges, it's beautiful.

Keep far far away from Brussels, it's one of the most disgusting dirty cities in Europe. Plus, there's loads of dirty politicians there too.

Make sure you have a look at the Lommel track whilst you’re there.

You got me!!!!!!!!!!! You 100% nailed me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife if from Europe. In the last 13-14 years i have been there a minimum of 3 months at a time every year. One year i was there for 8 months. I was also there from 2017 to 2019. Thats 2 years if you can't fucking add.

With my low IQ i have managed to completely fill up a Passport with stamps in 10 years when it expired.
Euros were even amazed at how many stamps my American ass had. Because Americans don't travel like in Europe.

I completely 100% stand by the statement i made!!!!!!!!!

Oh........ one thing that did not take me long to learn when i first went to Europe, is how to constantly wash your hands...
This was waaaayyyyyy before Covid!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If there is any way you can make it to Namur for a day your moto dreams will be complete! its a beautiful area to hike the old GP track through the woods, submerse yourself in the motocross history there, meet people and maybe have a picnic top side at the citadel...its fabulous. Lommel is great on race day but be aware its just a big sandbox behind an industrial center the rest of the time. There are a few great museums in Brussels and a Belgium WWll museum near the "battle of the bulge area" that amazing. Happy and safe travels

You’ve been there? Brussels is actually very underrated imo. It has some really nice and cool places.

Bruges is lovely, and a wander round Spa GP track ( including the old road circuit bit that is left) .

Lots of nice places , but i would give Antwerp and Brussels a wide berth.

Time of year makes a difference too.

I’m a car guy as well, and I did see a wonderful automotive museum while researching the area.

There's a few good bits in this thread. Just avoid the posts with more than two paragraphs.

Those are the two places I visited whilst in Belgium. Can't agree more. Namur is such a beautiful town, and the castle is a great walk; amazing they ever raced there! Bruges is beer heaven

thought the OP was talking about Decoster, not Everts. both are legends though.

Make sure you go to Bruge while you are in Belgium. Not sure what your plans are touring wise, but if you can go Switzerland, Sweden, Germany visit the Berghof, lake Bled in Slovenia. I absolutely love touring Europe, has its bad places like everywhere, but in no way is it as described by someone as 90% dump. That’s just showing ignorance and a lack of culture.

History and beauty do not always go together. I have been to Europe once for the MXdeN in England. We drove through England, France, Netherlands, Belguim and Germany. Every city had some awesome and some not os awesome areas. Old buildings have history but in reality are just old buildings that some do not respect. JMO

Namur is beautiful and not too far away from the Battle of the Bulge museum in Bastogne that bigsal mentioned.

I went there years ago and thought it was awesome. You can easily ride a bicycle to it from the train station in Bastogne.

So far the itinerary is Texas, London, Paris, Zurich, Zermatt (Matterhorn), Brussels, London, Texas. Just glossing over a map, it looks like Namur is not that far from Brussels. Surely someone gives moto tours, no matter how short. It sure would be cool to say I saw DeCoster's childhood home in Brussels. Little did he know, some little black kid had his eyes glued to the tv to catch a glimpse of Da' Man when The Wide World of Sports came on tv once a year.

Well Mark I'm thinking you are set for a great vacation, when are you leaving? I don't know about any moto tours there but Roger 'D is still hanging out around here as the ambassador of motocross "the sport of kings" and always ready for a handshake stateside. Mark I was a little white kid at the same time, Bingo for me one new 1973 paper route Suzuki TM125 coming right up 1st race that weekend!
