Pretty crazy rules, but it shouldn’t be represented as UC Berkeley housing. It’s privately owned and not any part of UC Berkeley.

Why the left is pushing for resegregation is beyond me….the left gets nuttier and nuttier every year..

You classic liberals need to start standing up to this nonsense.

Only actually been to Berkeley proper twice. Once for a WSU-Cal football weekend, the other when I tagged along with my son when Cal flew him down to try to convince him to pick their PhD program over his other offers.

Does that matter when this is, in fact, a private property and not actually university housing?

Don’t get me wrong, I think that these ‘rules’ are pretty crazy. But representing them as university housing isn’t just crazy, it’s intentionally dishonest.

Agree it’s intentionally dishonest, however we all know the folks at UC Berkeley support/advocate for this. Point is, it’s not a far leap tying them together.,

Perhaps freshman students below a certain age, unless their family is local. But I don’t know of any major university that restricts where the majority of their students live.

Again, this is a private property with a bizarre set of rules. What it isn’t is a university controlled housing issue.

If we want to accuse Cal Berkeley of doing stupid things, then we should be honest about those things. Otherwise this becomes ‘evidence’ (in the minds of many) of Berkeley being stupid.

This would be all over main stream media if it was excluding blacks. Since it’s the “evil white man” nobody cares and some mouth breathers will even defend it. What a fucking time to be alive….

So I went to the Berkely University housing resource page and it has a link to the Berkely CoOp page which has a policy page, that has an anti discrimination policy section that forbids discrimination a thousand different ways in any form including access.

So of course there's no way to square these rules with the policy. And no way to see it as any thing but some kind of really destructive racial grievance pay back garbage that young people are being taught is virtuous or something.

This stuff is really bad news. It's not just some crazy rules. It's destructive to everyone no different than Jim Crow.
I know someone that is sort of indirectly related to my family who graduated from San Francisco State two years ago. 4.0 child genius the whole thing. But two people told me she has totally changed. Defensive, argumentative, calls people racist, capitalists, fascists all the stuff. I guess she gave her Dad a lecture on the evils of capitalism and all this other stuff. So he got sick of it and canceled her credit cards and cut her off. Then explained to her how capitalism and 70 hrs a week at his pizza restaurant paid for her free ride at college.
It was sad hearing this stuff.

It says Off Campus UC Berkeley housing. Which is an accurate statement. The headline doesn’t say “housing at UC Berkeley”.

Reading helps.

You are more concerned about making sure it’s not associated with UC Berkeley, then condemning the openly racist and bigoted “rules” on full display.

Says what all we already know about you. So I’m not surprised.

If the headline said UC Berkeley Housing…. It wouldn’t be a surprise to anyone anyways. UC Berkeley is openly racist and anti-American.

I would say the left group that is openly anti white is about the same as the right wing people in groups like proud boys etc.

Can you point to any major corporations or government offices that force employees to attend special training where a Proud Boy shows up and teaches them the right way to love America? Because lots of workplaces have forced their employees into "white fragility" training sessions.

It was sad hearing this stuff.
And sadly , this happens more and more.

Or should i say predictably.

My daughter went to a decent University, worked 2 jobs to pay her way through it while my son, left school and got a proper job, full apprenticeship, and had to pay for the privilege of living at home.

He paid for her essentially.

And the proviso was that her degree was a 'proper' one that she could monetise at the end, else it was all on her.

Now when we visit her in her proper first house, that nobody in her circle could afford, you can see which of them went to Uni on Mummy and Daddy's dollar, and those who didnt.

None of them can grasp the concept that mothers used to stay home and raise a family, they just bleat about the fact that they cant afford to buy anywhere to live, when the root cause of that , is the ' let everyone in ' policies of the left , mean that all affordable housing is in the hands of private landlords, being rented to non-citizens.

Needless to say , i am great fun at her parties, when you point out these things, they lose their shit, especially the one who got robbed by an african migrant after being all over the BLM bandwagon.

On the flip side, my son in law, who is a non-degree computer genius, moves in circles of engineers and blue collar guys , and they all get it. They know what graft is, and they do it. And they are a pleasure to be around.

People are sick of yoghurt knitters undermining their way of life and poisoning their kids, and the push back has properly taken shape.

The whole media is missing the true story , too busy in a circle jerk, that excludes the majority, and because of that , people are tuning out in their 10's of thousands, they can see what is going on, and are fed up of having their intelligence insulted, they can see Biden is a disaster every time they leave the house, every time a bill drops through there door, and every time they go to the gas station.

It used to be that there were 2 sides, media that supported 1 or the other, and both were effectively paid for by theh same people, but we all knew that , and accepted that every 4 years , you got the illusion of choice.

But now, its basically an existential threat to our way of life, controlled by a global cabal that nobody elected, and nobody can challenge, and the west is on a death spiral , all manufactured, to the benefit of those who already have everything.

In the words of Klaus Schwab ' you will own nothing and you will be happy' .

Well at least those that survive will.

At least being a 'conspiracy theorist' means my chances of dying of myocarditis are greatly reduced.

Funny how all that is panning out isnt it.

A bit disingenuous at best.
From the article,
"The building was set up by the Berkeley Student Cooperative to bring affordable “housing to low-income, first generation, immigrant and marginalized students of color” in the Bay Area."
So you're trying to say the Berkeley Student Cooperative has nothing to do with Berkeley
My question is why are they allowed to use the Berkeley name?

Some of us are "regular visitors" to the UCB area...

I have a coffee place I like in that neighborhood.

LOVE to park the off-road 4X4 truck there...right out front (No, it's NOT Electric or Hybrid Smile )
LOVE to have Milo sit with me while I sip my coffee...even he, a Siberian Husky, looks around at the kooks in amazement. I'm quite sure he smells weakness. Not kidding.
LOVE that Glock & GSFF logos are on the truck. Not kidding.
LOVE that I meet there for my monthly gathering of ol' defense industry buds.
LOVE that one of our group actually went to UCB and left to go across the bay...to Stanford.
LOVE the looks we get from some of the Birkenstock and Hemp wearing folk.
LOVE that the locals take a wide berth around us...and our dogs (Husky, Malinois, Czech Shep, Ridgeback, Queensland...etc.)
LOVE that they all seem to notice that some of the guys have military campaign/branch/Gadsen tats (Yup, they stare at'em).
LOVE that they ARE SILENT.
LOVE that the occasional black-outfitted types get our brief glance as they REFUSE to make eye-contact. LOVE IT!

Yup. I LOVE that place. Milo and I are in the bay quite a few times a month and there's a group of us that've worked together, in the bay, dating back to 1984 (Kind of a funny year when you think about it!). A lot of the guys are military/ex-military or have been/are contractors. We -ALL- LOVE hanging out in...

"Nuclear Free" Berzerkeley.

For what is soon to be FORTY YEARS!

You see, all of us worked together in programs where we'd once used the labs at Berkeley for research...labs that were part of Lawrence Livermore & Los Alamos Labs...then we'd go have a beer and laugh at Berzerkeley and their "Nuclear Free" signs.

And we still do.

Even-tho most of us are doing other-thing these days, a lot of us work together in other capacities, we still hang together, ride together, shoot together, ski/board together...hell, race together.

And we still meet up in the same town that brought us laughs when we all worked together in our youth...work on amazing "energy programs".

Good times...and, they still are! Laughing

Yup. Berkeley! Still bringing me lots of laughs!

Gooooooo Bears! Kissing

Berkeley is the city name, not simply the name of the school.

I'll say this right up front...it does seem that there's some discrimination going on. But, I've never been black, brown or any other minority. If the purpose of this housing is to provide a "safe" place for minority kids that have been victims of "white" violence or things of that nature...it does give me reason to pause.

I don't give a pardon to those that create havoc and chaos because they've been wronged but I do understand that bigotry and hatred will elict a response.

No, it’s not a deflection in the least. You asked how they are able to use the word Berkeley, I pointed out that it is the name of the city. Just as no one needs permission from UCLA to use the words ‘Los Angeles’ in their business name, neither would this co-op need permission from the University of California-Berkeley to use ‘Berkeley’.

Your link doesn’t take me to anything on my phone, but if there is a reference to the co-op there that would further underscore that it isn’t actually a UC-Berkeley controlled facility.

To be clear, I don’t really agree with the rules that this POC house has, but it should be accurately represented. The co-op appears to have 17 houses and 3 apartment buildings in total. This is one facility. I can’t really condone those rules, but it isn’t quite as huge as it is being made to sound.

To be fair, it does not appear to be sanctioned by UC Berkely but are advertised on the Berkeley City College on their website. So there is probably some knowledge of the situation. So whether there is full endorsement or nod nod wink wink endorsement we don't know.

A lot of things these days are reverse psychology and honeypots. Encourage dumb behavior, get it into the system and then out of the system in the long run imo

Any of amount of discrimination is wrong…there is no excuse for it at all…not all whites people are violent, and any organization, property or person promoting discrimination based on race needs to be widely condemned.

So if you see “some discrimination” and have to take a “pause” rather than automatically, and completely, condemning it, you’re part of the problem.

Racism breeds racism…being okay with even a little racism promoted by minorities, means you are creating racism by majorities…and the downward spiral gains momentum.
