Has anyone bought a sprinter recently? I went looking today here in Bay area, it's ridiculous, they have a lot of inventory yet have a mark up of $10,000 to $20,000 depending on the unit. In Cali, that's actually $11 to $22k with taxes.

Is this universal in US right now? I actually told the guy to fuck off, not my proudest moment lol.

Amazing what happens when the free money faucet runs dry. Lot's of folks out there struggling to readjust to working.

Not to mention having to buy food, goods, and fuel at the "new" prices.

Next year should be an amazing time to buy 2-3 year old dirt bikes...if you make sure there's not a lien on the title.

I read that the repos are deliberately being held back from auction to save flooding the market? At some point, manufacturers are gonna get back to full production and wanting to sell new stuff to make up their volume? Is this correct?

I still can not understand how a $1400 hand out from big gov, got people into $50k cars and $80k trucks. But is did.

Yeah, but if they didn't send out that 1400, they would have just given it to wall street like they did the other trillions

I am not make a comment on whether it was good or bad, the $1400 or what ever it was. I am just not smart enough to figure out or understand how that amount of money can be rolled into a $50k car. 🤷‍♀️

Good luck getting a Sprinter Van, they look nice.

Google "PPP Fraud". Seems that quite a few folks became magically self-employed and got forgivable loans...without thinking the Feds would ever get around to catching up to them.

In my little city of 16,000 we had 148 self-employed janitors that all got more than 10K. Some got that multiple times.
Over 2,000 folks got loans. At one point you could look at who had been approved for the "Paycheck Protection Program" and see how much they got. One of those "janitors" also ran a "direct mail business" out of their apartment which they listed as their business. They got loans for that business, too

A lot of them were also drawing unemployment while getting the loans. That was specifically prohibited by both programs. They'll be cleaning up this mess for the next 10 years.

It's no wonder so many bike dealers sold out of bikes. Lots of buyers were playing with house money. Same thing with car dealers, buyers were flush with cash to make down payments.

The real question is how did all these people not working or suddenly working from home with incentive losses etc all of the sudden afford to overpay for bicycles, motos, cars, vans, homes etc. Crash coming in 3, 2, 1.....

You only need to go back 15 years to the last crash, albeit dodgy house loans...

You can search here to find anyone that got the PPP hand outs. They are going to be combing thru these to bust the ones who were fraudulent.

These guys in my town got over $4M and I’ve never even heard of them-
https://projects.propublica.org/coronavirus/bailouts/search?q=Santa+Cla…

I know at least 3 guys that got over $300K and shouldn’t have. Their day will come, especially when they are offering rewards to people that turn others in. It’s going to be a shit show !
There are millionaires with legit companies that got millions to keep their employees working during the pandemic, which is totally legal, but other friends with smaller companies that had to BK, because they had to lay off workers and couldn’t keep the doors open. It’s a very mismanaged situation

Bruce, I have a buddy who is also looking to buy a new sprinter. He told me yesterday that the dealer mark ups are slowly going away. He had our local dealer down to $2500 over suggested retail. But he is holding off buying it to see what happens on the next few months.
I had a guy offer me $100K for mine a few weeks ago, but I basically have that into it, if I include all my time as labor costs. I told him that I didn’t want to sell it yet, as I just finished it. But I might end up taking him up on it and pay off my house, I’m thinking of retiring sooner than later. I can build another one down the road. Undecided what I want to do.

I think that sounds right, the dealer had around 30 vans total, last month they had two 4x4s, and now they have four and they are telling me high demand.

I think now is the time to be patient, I just got the bug to drive east for a riding and mxdn trip.

I bought mine 2 years ago (sprinter) 27,000 miles on it and sold it for $10,000 over what I paid, thanks to Langhammx.
First year had no problems, but after that, check engine light went off more then I could take. Dealer was 35 mikes away and the service department sucked ass.
Think the 23’s or the 24’s four cylinder only.

Yeah, I saw yours for sale but I wanted the 170.

Hear your frustration on check engine, my diesel 3.0L silverado has spent 3 days at the shop for software. It went into limp a week after bumper to bumper ran out, luckily they comped it.

Don’t forget the slush fund that was PPP, and a lot of that money was chasing used cars at auction which bid up prices. Throw in some free money along with easy money and shutting down most of the economy…and this is what you get.

I know a Mercedes dealership owner in California. They were marking up 4x4 Sprinters about $40k early last year. Nothing to do with shortage. Only high demand. COVID lockdowns and shift to work from home drove more people to seek the vanlife, especially in California.

That sounds about right, but things are changing... two months ago, they had 2 4x4 vans, now two months later they are still there and there are two more! Plus, a whole bunch more vans on the lot.

I just don't like being lied to, if they just fussed up and said we are trying to take advantage of the last two years and gouge our customers I'd have a lot more respect.

I know someone selling a Quigley Ford Econoline 4x4. Sweet rig. About 1/5 the price of an equivalent Sprinter.

After owning a Sprinter myself for 3 years, I'd much rather have a Quigley Econoline 4x4.

I’m just looking for a barebones extended express/econoline. Seems like the market is changing so may be able to snag up a good deal in the coming months.

Went back to the dealer today, they've had a ton of van inventory , and still not budging on markups, they wanted $10k extra three months ago, and now they want $15K, but can do it for $10k lol.

Pretty crazy that pandemic empty car lots are chock full of inventory, Mercedes dealer had so many cars for sale they are running out of space. More than 15 sales people at 4m30pm, and not one customer.
