Anyone have good examples of their trackside toolbox and parts crate?
I'm looking for ideas and thinking about getting a modular toolbox like this:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-PACKOUT-22-in-Modular-Tool-Box-St…
For what it's worth, I typically roll in a dual cab pickup so I like these small modular boxes so that I can lock them up inside the truck if I have to park.
The crate should be big enough to store a set of bars, tubes, chain, sprockets, fasteners etc. Ideally it would also hold all the sprays and oils too. The biggest tool I would need to store is probably a rubber hammer, with the rest being hand tools, tire pressure gauge, t-handles, socket set etc.

We have been using the Ridgid boxes for years.
They are similar to Milwaukee pack out.

The large box for fluids/ filters, large parts, etc….

The medium box for tools

The small box a few parts

First off, to me, what you listed is IDEAL if you have the space. I just don't have the space when transporting 3 bikes and other items in the bed. Plus, I like to lock up as much as I can in the cab.

So, here's the path I've taken ...

I've got an old 2006 Toyota Tundra Double Cab that I lay the rear seats down in when I go riding and I place bins of riding gear in the back on top of a blanket (labeled, of course - checklist style!) and I use this DeWalt toolbox to carry the tools and spares I need:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-24-in-2-in-1-Tote-with-Removable-Pow…

Tools in top: Everything I could need minus any specialty tools for the engine internals (e.g. no sprocket jammers for cam gears).
Spares in bottom: Levers, shift levers, fastener kit (to include rear sprocket bolts), sag Slacker tool, chain master links, and other various doodads (like FasstCo bar parts, XC Gear Mako 360 parts, XTrig parts, Hammerhead shifter parts, etc.). I do not bring spare bars or wheels, etc., anymore. But I did for years. That's just me, though, after seeing what I regularly needed vs. never/seldom did.

Fully loaded up, I can still carry/lift this toolbox setup fairly easily without hurting myself.

For my MOST COMMONLY USED tools, I grabbed this little cheapo toolbox at Wal-Mart that I always grab first when I need to work on the bikes at the track (I put this on the floor in the truck):
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Hyper-Tough-13-Inch-Tool-Box-Plastic-Tool-an…

That ^^^ is it. That's my total tool & spares approach to riding anywhere within 2 hours of the house after years of paring the "kit" down..

If I were racing, I'd add another bin(s), not a toolbox. In the past, I could easily fit an extra set of bars, air filters, fluids, clutch parts, engine cases, and even an exhaust into a large bin. These are the bins I've standardized on generally for organization in the garage and truck:

https://www.amazon.com/Sterilite-14669004-Gallon-Industrial-Latches/dp/…

https://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-27-Gal-Tough-Storage-Tote-in-Black-with…;

---------------------------------------------

Beyond what you asked, but here's the gear/tool solution I've come up with that enables me to remember everything I need when I go riding + makes loading/unloading quick and easy. I was "scavenger hunting" for waaaaaaay too many years every time I'd go riding ... and I've forgotten boots, helmets, etc.

Specifically, this is the metal shelving on wheels I use (roll it right up to the truck and load/unload!):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WD46CV4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asi…

To augment the above, I use a milk crate to gather up the things that I need that live in the house (GoPro, snacks, etc.). One just like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Juggernaut-Storage-Black-Milk-Crate/dp/B08GZ5P7L…

What I've implemented above is based on simple manufacturing operation tricks I've used over the years.

Pulling your ENTIRE tool and gear load up to the truck on 1 organized cart: PRICELESS

This is what I use for tools and oils plus spare parts. The toolbox was my Grandpa's, still has his name inside. Built way better than the new toolboxes.

The foam:
You cut it or it came pre-cut?

I recall (I think) seeing a toolbox like yours a few years ago in MXA that came with tools and pre-cut foam.

Either way: N-I-C-E.

That’s Tool Man Dan. He sells them that way with the tools. I’m saving my allowance to buy one of his toolboxes currently.

I have a small Matrix track box that has most of my tools in it. (My nicer tools and electric/air/fragile or sensitive items I keep at home in a nicer, drawer-style box.) I have basically all I would need at the track: screwdrivers, sockets, wrenches, pliers, safety wire, spoke wrenches, zip ties, spark plugs, air gauge, cable luber, etc. If I need to do anything more involved to my bike, I'm going home anyway.
I carry an old milk crate as well. It houses my premix (look it up - we dinosaurs like 2-strokes,) my chain lube, grease, a few funnels, rags, contact cleaner, fuel stabilizer for the minis, and engine/transmission oil.

Plano 2 drawer tackle box works perfect, contains the basic tools needed for any trackside adjustments or repairs. Weighting in at 15.7 lbs it's easy to carry and small enough to stow inside the vehicle. everything needed for basic RM250, YZ125 and YZ250 fasteners.

Small ULine step doubles as stowage for chain lube, rags, extra clutch perch, levers, grips and basic fasteners for all 3 of my bikes. Doubles as my step for loading the bike into the Ford FX4

The way it opens so you can access everything is most excellent! I may try that - it's ideal, really.

I got a 10 Drawer top box like Dan Colvin posted (his kits are siiick, obviously) but I cheaped out on tools (while I do have Snap On / a little Blue Point in my regular roll cab) on the basis that nothing needs to be that THAT tight on a motocross bike plus I'll probably lose half of it or not get stuff back as I lend stuff to anyone who asks at the track.

Will post a couple pics later.

Under the lid is:
3/8 Torque wrench
Motion Pro 3/8 T-Bar
3/8 Sockets
Plastic dead blow hammer
Telescopic magnet etc

Little drawers:
Assorted little bits, chain tool, spare split link,
jets, exhaust spring puller and picks, etc

1st main drawer:
Screwdrivers
Snips and grips
Spare plug for me and the mrs' 2 strokes

2nd main drawer:
Spanners to cover Euro and Jap
Allen keys
Torx keys
Euro powervalve tool

Bottom drawer:
Tyre changing stuff
Random shit thrown in like clutch fluid syringe
Fork pump etc

Awesome trays!

I cheaped out with these "the other carbon fiber" baking trays from Costco:

The foam is all custom laser cut. We have some boxes coming out that has foam you can trace and cut for your tools. We offer then key boxes full of tools with foam cut as well. Dcmxtools.com

5 gal home depot bucket with a padded lid which is a seat and 3 of these inside.

https://www.amazon.com/Bucket-Boss-15051-Stacker-System/dp/B0000226AU/r…

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KC57P1F?pd_rd_i=B09KC57P1F&pf_rd_p=0e085ce…

works as a good seat to check spokes etc,
I also take the lid off and use the bucket as a tire changing stand

The "track box" is separate from the shop tools and dedicated just for the track. Learned over the years what needs to be inside. Old Matrix box does't take up much room and has everything I need. Chemicals & lubes are in the Van rear door pockets.

They are similar to Milwaukee pack out.

The large box for fluids/ filters, large parts, etc….

The medium box for tools

The small box a few parts
I have a Rigid packout set up and its great, I also had a milwaukee like pictured in the OPs post and it did not hold up very well and cost 2X what the better quality Ridgid set up cost. I also bough 3 of the ridgid small parts boxes with the clear top and they are great also.

I just run a matrix M31. I use it at home and at the track, it’s big enough to fit everything I need at the track (hand tools wise). I have a small-ish crate that has my bolt kit/spares, oils/lube, manual, specialty tools (sag scale, tension wrench) that this sits on top of.
