Where is the next great American rider?

If the next great American rider means the Smoothest . In the last 12 yrs I rode twice last wed and today I had to do a 30 min straight because bike work took some time.gnarly peaked braking bumps on the down hills I got both brakes to fade. 8pm riding is done. Back of my shoulder is messed up it pumps my rt arm up, I hv to figure that out. I look at the technical hilly track like I,m riding on ice . Mimic Damon Huffman the most a little jmb with Bradshaw aggression which I,m trying to back down. Got the uphill left sweeper whoops greased like flat ground. After a jump a rt small sweeper I cut left a bit then cut an arc to the hill for the floater keep it pulling in 3rd. No slow down for the rt turn. Drift the front wheel and slide the rear. Make the track shorter and it’s faster. Ride the track different some sweeps your stuck following the ruts I stand threw them. Probably won’t b singing a big contract but I improved a lot in the short rides. Next Saturday I,ll probably b 5th in 125 class and 3rd in 50+ there’s x Profeshenals that still haul and it’s a 4-st track for traction but has a 125 flow. 1 50+ racer does Millville in 45,50 A he finishes good. Not too worried about him tho. Really enjoying riding and linking sections together smoother. The bike is amazing super comfortable on it except for the pegs. I can’t wait to see where I,m at 2 weeks from now. Zero fear on the bike helps push it along faster.

Reed made a point on the RedBud pre-show. He said Deegan is 16 and should be racing pro and that if he did he'd be a 5-7 guy right now.

He said it makes no sense to hold him back because he's going to make mistakes regardless when he moves up. That's just part of the learning curve when you go pro.

He then went on to say that it's better to make those mistakes now and correct them as oppose to holding him back and making those same mistakes when he's 20 or so like Kitchen.

Langston was a dirty ass rider on many occasions. I loved when he threw away that Supercross win trying to showboat over a small double.
If he wasn't such an insecure prick who looked over his shoulder to brake check Bobby Bonds at Hangtown and essentially ruin his career I might have some respect for him. Bonds was going to be the next big thing and Langston couldn't handle it and did him dirty.
I won't even get started on the gifted 450 mx championship he got.

Drew Adams is the next great American rider. Talking about holding back and all that, this kid has constantly moved up regardless of titles. He is 14 now and would go pro now if he legally could. The reason why, is he is hungry, just like the Lawrence's etc. They are all in, the same as drew Adam's. All these other "top amateurs" in America are loaded and their family has the funds and are fine even if they don't make it. Quit giving all the support and factory rides to rich kids and give it to the hungry kid with talent and watch out, you will see american riders back on it. Who do you all call the greats?? Stewart, villopoto, carmichael......even Reed, not American, what's all in common? They were from nothing, all in and hungry. Get back to the point where we need to go pro "NOW" versus we can keep financing this for 4 more years to get some amateur titles because our pockets are deep. Get back to being hungry and back against the wall status. American moto has became the sport of the entitled, Europe and the world are hungry, they aren't all deep pocket generational entitled kids
Well said!!

The Australian nationals run an mx3 class for riders aged 13 to 18, there will be more Lawrence calibre riders from our system in the coming years.

Ll should be for minibikes and vets, not riders on factory bikes about to go pro. From the outside looking it, it's a completely whack system.

Deegan's fastest lap in each race was about 2 seconds faster then the next rider....I have no dog in this fight, I'm Australian...but impressed by Deegan and I was definitely thinking he was overhyped

The whole system is wacked. What's a 15 yr old have to spend on a 250f to be competitive, let alone a super mini?

Yeah blows me away that the AMA doesn’t have a development class running alongside the nationals on the same tracks, like the GP’s have EMX and the Aussies have MX3.
You can’t buy that experience.

I think MXGP is currently in the same spot.

Many good young rider, but no clear no generational talent.

Funny you say that, I also see it in Tennis and soccer/football.

Kid's who are 25 in their prime can't get passed 35 year olds, I think it's the technology and other distractions that hinder the young guys, the guys born before 94 have a more solid foundation because they went outside and did their craft when they were bored, now when kids are bored they can just scroll or play video games.

Just hearing about US amateur races being 5-7 laps long is one of the things.

Kids like Deegan are riding full time on factory bikes at the same age as Herlings and Roczen became world Champions in mx2.

There should be a two day format on the nationals, just as MXGP with a amateur support class riding on saturday each weekend with 2x 25+2 motos.
The whole hiding at training facilitys and racing lorettas has gone out of hand.

I never fell asleep riding what r you talking about. But I did improve probably more in my rushed 30 min moto than any rider in the world. In 2 weeks I,ll b the fastest 04 cr125 rider in the world. So Get ready. Being that there’s 14 of us makes it 1 hell of a goal and achievement to shoot for. Problem is the double boost port 04 is draining the float. I need to double the float size or add a electronic fuel pump.

Imma gonna go the opposite way...

Let these kids have their childhoods... then let them race... a kid turning pro at 21 is sooooo much more mature than 16... more mature means better race craft and less injuries...

A proper childhood > any amount of money

If you want your kids to have a proper/normal childhood, don't put them in competitive sports.

America's unprecedented fall from grace in the des Nations heralded a sustained period of mental weakness that we are not out of yet.

It doesn't look like we will be out of it anytime soon, either. Other countries are developing superstar riders with tremendous speed and mental toughness, while America is still saying "Wait for me, guys.."

How long should we wait?

They created a super rich people program. 250k 250f engine program to race b class a handful of times. Deegan is near and faster on days than the other star racing pros now doing the same training program in 104 muggy heat and he,s racing b class. A emx type of program is 20 yrs late. Red Bud you can race Fri and Sunday on the pro track. Fri sat night also. Millville has am racing Fri and Sunday. They don’t get many in a class . Get a 50k purse for a 125 class or An A class on amateur day. If you get a top 3 on amateur day your invited to a 100k purse race. No incentive to move up.

Idk, Mav, that scenario hasn't worked out for AC. Look at Jett, for example, compared to AC size/strength wise at a similar age. A lot of what if's.
