New or used. Located in Bakersfield, Ca. Willing to buy used if in good condition, but would prefer new. OTD prices I’ve been seeing pretty high

Be careful on a used 20-22 YZF 450 there have been some rod failures. I had a 21 fail at 36 hrs and have heard of more than a few. Yamaha put the FX rod in the 450 for 22 but know of a 22 that failed at 10 hrs. Some have no problems and some do so i am sure guys will chime in and call BS. MXA posted something on it as well. FYI i am 63 been at it forever and know how to take care of my bike. When changing the air filter on the yamaha i would always lay it on its side as a precaution as one example. Crank Works, Carrillo, and Wiesco Racer Elite all make a quality replacement if availible?

Are these rods failing for average Joes / weekend warriors or is it experienced racers primarily?

To me, buying these seems like a no brainer:

I offered him 14k for both, which I thought wasn't an unreasonable offer, but the owner claimed he could get more from a dealer, which I highly doubt.

Why not a 2020?

Picked up a 2020 YZ450F, FMF pipe and some aftermarket parts in SoCal for 6800 a few months back.

I am 63 and no pro by any means. The 22 with 10hrs was a decent B kid.
