I watched the highlights last night and I thought that the track was really cool! Not bad for whipping a track up out of thin air.

The core of the issue is not that Infront isnt providing a travel budget.

The core of the issue is that Infront believes that the tv exposure & atrendance figures of the championship as a whole is a great platform for teams to find money for theur team. Luongo jr. literally just said this 2 weeks ago in an interview.

The reality is quite different: Just a few weeks ago we had 21 and 22 guys ride in time practice of mx2 and mxgp in an Italian (!) GP. Because the money to pay for it all simply isnt in reach based on the "platform" infront offers.

What’s the alternative model ?

Clearly the only reason we go to markets like Indonesia is it’s part of the deal to gain factory support from Honda etc

How do we increase funding for the smaller teams ?

Well if i dont take the "infront should share more profits" angle...:
Lower the costs. So less races with less races overseas. We had 12 races with no overseas ones just 20 years ago.

And build these events into massive events with huge attendance, by cutting ticket prices to a 3rd.

I think what many people miss is the fact that really it’s the big manufacturers calling the shots here.

If you want rider like Gasjer, Herlings within MXGP, they need million euro contracts, so the factory’s who fund this effort need a return on investments.

Places like Indonesia are huge 2 wheel markets, so for the factory’s it’s just marketing for the future market share. No issue to pay for there guys to go.

If you go against the factory’s, your risk losing the level of support for the most Elite, as obviously there is always the money in the USA for them to chase.

In USA teams need sx to gain factory support, in MXGP teams need fly always.

Infront funding flyaway might make it unviable for them as the costs would be huge. Some help would of course be good, but to make it happen prob impossible nowadays.

It’s not a straight forward issue to solve. We already have a euro championship.

As long as you're aware, the folks in charge of MXGP, InFront, have their luxury offices in the center of one of the most expensive real estate locations in Europe, the heart of Monte Carlo. Money doesn't matter, to some, in this game.

I don’t see why that’s relevant. Herlings was earning circa 5 million in a year according to an interview. It’s a big money game for the people at the top.

Yes be great to see the sport achieve huge incomes for everyone, but it’s not going to be easy, unless the sports becomes more mainstream. Then the rich would get even richer & who knows how far it would trickle down.

How much media coverage do the lesser teams / riders get ?

Last season when the top 3 were so close in points, who was watching 15th place ?

It’s hard to make everyone a winner at the highest level of sport.
