WP XACT PRO 6500 Insert install question

Hi all, I just bought a set of XACT Pro inserts for my 2021 Husky FC250 and looking for some install information. The dealer wasn’t sure whether the oil was added to the cartridge part of the fork. I don’t have a pin spanner yet and that is needed to open the top of the fork. Has anyone bought these and know whether they come with oil direct from WP? I have sent an email to WP to ask but considering the holidays I may not get an answer until next week when I’ll have the pin wrench.

Just pump the cartridge up and down... should require some force, and it's pressurized so it will push back out.

Since it's a twin chamber fork, you're also gonna need 200 to maybe 400 ccs of oil in outer chamber like a showa fork.

I bought a set of cartridges today and running into same issue of lack of install information. Curious what you found out with your cartridges when you installed them. I’m curious if they are pre bled for the inner chambers

Which year forks will these inserts drop into? Do you have to swap lugs?

They drop into the newer forks not sure about prior years. My AERs are 2022. No lug removal 👍🏽

CClay my inserts were pre-bled. I tested by pushing the cartridge down (not installed) and they rebounded slowly. I took this to mean that there was oil inside the small chamber already.

I am pretty sure 21-up don’t require lug removal while 20-back do. Something about the bottoming cones if memory serves. I know there is a split where everything newer doesn’t need removal, just not 100% where that split is.

I had my tuner do them while revalving the shock, so I wasn’t there for install.

Thanks for that information yeah I believe it’s the 21 forks and up as well. Fortunately my forks are in that category so I don’t need to worry about the lugs.

You need different lugs on the older models for the Xact fork.

Different lugs, or just lug R&R to install the 6500 seats/base adapters?

I was going to get inserts, drove to the shop to pick them up, planned to install later that day. The shop was explaining the processes involved to install. Measure this, shim that, special tool for this, special tool for that.

I gave the inserts back and bought complete forks. “Drop in” sounds easier than it is, unless your fluent in suspension leave it to the pros lol.

Haha yeah for sure. I went to do it that night, unboxed the cartridges and then reboxed them and took them to my suspension guy to install the next morning.

I'm interested in how all of you like/difference in these inserts over stock. When you finish up the install please post back with your reviews!

I definitely will! I was racing the bike with KYBs cartridges until the other weekend when I sold the forks to a buddy. I raced that weekend with stock forks and now I’ll have these WPs to compare 👍🏽

Appreciate it, I'm looking at CV vs cartridge install/KYB comparison, so all your insight would be super helpful vs. stock. I'm running the new 22.5 KTM 250SXF-FE so it's all new with some tweaks to the shock/suspension from last years model. Spoke to Mike Johnson at AEO/REP a little more about it. Have about 20 hours now on the new bike and love it thus far, just really like the feel from my buddies 22 YZ250/450f's on that front end feel with springs allowing the front end feel of being planted through corners. Probably the one thing I would like to add from where I'm at currently.

Hey guys Does anyone have a little bit of sound from the springs shifting after they installed and filled the forks with oil? And if I did something wrong upon install does anyone know what this could be? Thanks

How are the ride reports for everyone doing this conversion? Coming up on service time for my suspension and looking at this as an option Smile .

I absolutely love mine. I originally loved it everywhere except chop (corner entry braking bumps mostly), where it jackhammered me pretty good. Played with preload and clickers and couldn’t solve it. Checked fork sag (which I’ve never done) and realized my spring rate was too stiff. Dropped from a .52 to a .51 and it’s awesome. Doing so also brought my compression back in 4-5 clicks to a more central setting (currently running the as-shipped valving, nothing custom).

Do you need to revalve the oem shock in order to work with the cartridge kit?

Curious what type of sag measurement you were looking for in your forks. Never heard of anyone doing that before, and I’ve always wondered why. Seems like it would be valuable tuning info

I’ll double-check, but it was definitely different than the shock. Same for me regarding checking it, never have before. What started me down that path was the fact that preload is externally adjustable on these just like the CV forks, which got me thinking about sag/spring rate.

In the WP 6500 manual it gives you clicker settings for your stock shock to move to. I ran the forks on the sport clicker setting and put my shock the suggested clickers with 102mm and it felt good
