While I do appreciate that Dunge and AC 222 will be gracing the Nationals with their incredible talents this summer, I can’t help but think of the already small number of rides available. Why not give an active privateer a shot at riding a factory bike for the summer? There are some really fast guys with minimal help who could make the next step with the help factory programs can provide. Most comebacks end up mediocre at best.

Like who?
Why would any factory team pay a privateer who will barely crack the top 15 and offer limited exposure when they can pay 2 of the best ever to go out and be inside the top 10 and will most definitely have the longest autograph lines over the weekends?
If you owned a pizza shop would you want to advertise having “average” pizza or one of the best pizzas ever?
On top of that, name one privateer who will consistently beat Dungey or Cairoli. You can’t because it will not happen unless they have a crash or mechanical. Dungey is a little more unknown at this point because he’s been gone for so long. Cairoli hasn’t been gone long at all and anyone who doubts him hasn’t watched him race much.
The fact is this is the most anticipated round 1 I ever remember and it’s all because of KTM bringing Dungey and Cairoli to the races. This is why people are taking a jab at you and this topic.
Pit Row
This is going to sound harsh, but These guys need to prove they are worth the effort of a factory ride. There’s reasons why they don’t get factory rides.
For Supercross, Bruce Sternjstrom had a good point in a recent podcast, the teams know every rider that can blitz a whoop section. If you can’t blitz a whoop section properly they don’t want you for Supercross.
In Motocross, if you can’t do 30+2 x 2 at full speed, they don’t want you. Mitch has had tryouts for fill in riders and a lot of privateers dont perform.
They are not fit enough, there is no excuse for being a professional racer and not being able to go the distance. It’s your job to be ready for that opportunity. Be ready.
