Kind of curious, going from my late teens to late 20s now, I'm kind of surprised at what I enjoy doing in my free-time. Moto is a life-long obsession of course...but most of my other hobbies have shifted a lot. Used to hate hiking, now I literally day dream about places I could go wander.
Used to be a big movie buff, outside of a couple franchises I'm attached to...could care less about movies anymore.
How about you all? Any strange hobbies you've picked up that you never would've considered? Or just ones you never thought you'd see yourself doing.

For strange hobbies I would say video game mapping and soundtrack production is a bit different from my normal "build something" tendencies. Although there are some parallels.
Now, at 44 I’m outdoors and, in the woods more. I spearfish, kayak, salmon fish, tie tackle ( never saw myself doing that) cut skulls into old pistons using a Dremel to name a few.
I guess in terms of hobbies outside moto, mainly got into long range shooting after I finished building my tacticool toys. It’s like going to a driving range but having to use the maths.
Been doing more fishing. Beyond that, I’ll just randomly get an urge to go find a 4x4 trail and go exploring in the Tacoma.
Honestly beyond that, I spend most my time either playing guitar or watching movies with a cat passed out on my lap.
But the last 2ish years are also my first owning a house. When I rented or was living with my parents, I’d always go out. Now it’s just nice to relax in my own place without the need or want to escape my surroundings.
It’s crazy though because I turn 37 this year and I still feel like I’m in my mid 20s. I was told by everyone “one day, you won’t have all that energy.” It never seemed to go away, still a very hyper peppy person.
Idk, just my personal take/experience on the topic.

DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
Also, now that I'm older I enjoy making my yard look the best in the neighborhood. When I was younger, I dreaded doing yard work.
I grew up riding/racing dirt bikes since I was 5 years old, it was before we even had dirt bikes. It was more like riding dual sports n the dirt until 1972. As a lifelong dirt biker I always cringed at the thought of riding on the street. Fast forward to around 10 years ago and I was still racing but switched over to vintage bikes. Had a blast doing that until it was just too hard on my body. So for the last 10 years I’ve been riding street bikes, at least once a week on average. Nice backroads/coastal/mountain rides. I started out with a WR250 and quickly found out that was not ideal for street. Went to KTM adventure bikes, 4 different Triumph models and then the last 4-5 years it’s been Harley’s. I figured out when I’m blasting down the freeway at 80 it is best to have 800ibs of bike beneath you for stability. I never thought I could have a fraction of the enjoyment on the street as I did n the dirt but I must tell you I am having the time of my life out there. It never gets boring, when you are on the road with cars you better be paying full attention or you’ll be in trouble. It keeps me sharp/focused and it makes me feel young again.
That’s about my only hobby nowadays. I did drive a lot of RC cars with Cam before he passed away. And Slot cars too, he was a master at building those things and he’d always have me set up with awesome cars/trucks. Too sad to even look at them anymore but I may dive back into them n the future.
I do enjoy movies but it seems like lately it is all superhero stuff. Looking forward to the new Jurassic park and Top Gun.
Loved golf n the past but got out of it. Very frustrating if you aren’t good at it, and I never was very good at hitting that little ball.
We recently just hired an 18 year old and he is showing alot of promise, reminds me of myself At that age except with more patience. Hopefully if things work out he can be our driller and possibly buy the company off me in 15 years or so.
I still ride about once a month but just don’t have that fire anymore. I’m more of a sunday cruiser now… hit some jumps, get some exercise and that’s about it.
I use to do father son tournaments as a kid, but never picked up the sport fully, just go to the range every few years to hit the driver.
Last 4 months I've been working and working on my swing. My problems have been fat shots and driver slice. I think I've figured out the driver slice is a late release, my fat shots are to focused on hitting the ball instead of swinging through.
I've really enjoyed how quiet the game is compared to moto and my work.
Now Im doing the whole building a prerunner thing. Always been around it but its 10x the money to go 1/5th of the speed. Getting stuck the first time was a real kick in the nuts. Never happened on a bike lol.
Ride when i want, which used to be a lot, and now isnt.
Dont do any moto media other than here... its overkill and i have a life.
If i spent as much time out in the wilderness, as i do watching it on You Tube, i would be 20kg lighter.
Then dirt bikes.
Surfing intertwined with that.
Added skateboarding.
Then moved away from waves and the desert.
So dirtbikes took a hiatus.
Still skateboarding, but cycling entered.
Then sailing took over, both sailboats and catamarans.
Out on the water we could see skydivers from the local DZ while they were in freefall.
My sailing partner and I stopped by there one day.
Next day we were static line students.
That began close to 20 years of non stop skydiving.
Add to that the beginning days of mt bikes.
Moved away again to the mountains.
Only a cessna DZ two hours away.
So mt bikes, DH bikes, road bikes were the main focus.
Some moto.
Then hiking, multi day backpacking, and kayak camping have taken over.
Restored a few Chevrolet's along the way.
Health issues have cut everything back to day hikes, and overnight backpacking trips.
Not to mention the lifelong hobby/trade of carpentry/cabinetry/custom woodworking.
It paid the bills, and for all my toys.
Now I pick the jobs I want, and sub out the ones I don't.
Not a whole lot of time on the couch.
Pit Row
Then on the way back from whatever you'd done, you were so glad you did it.
I am missing one design yacht racing.
Incredibly fast.
I have returned to my roots of ice hockey.
Being an old geezer allows me to practice with a nice group of fellow geezers for an hour and a half Mon Wed and Fri.
Adult skate on Thurs afternoon with the Wife and pick up games Thurs nite and Sat morning.
I hope to get in a senior league soon.
Oh yeah following the pro games in our area.
ECHL we follow the Toledo Walleye and Wheeling Nailers. Been to all the barns in 3 states.
AHL Cleveland Monsters.
NHL C-bus Blue Jackets.
Life is good
I crewed for a guy in a local regatta that had a 7.?
2 maybe.
I only got to practice once, then race in a blower.
I pretty much fucked him because I had zero trapeze experience, and I don't weigh much.
We did OK, but this guy was a great skipper, and had his normal crew been available, he would have slayed.
That thing points nearly as good as a good monohull. Fast as hell too. You could have skied behind that thing on a reach.
Edit: I can't remember, maybe it was a 5.2, no way it was 25 feet long.
My Dad bought a windmill when I was too young to be any help. That boat is crazy.
When my 4 year older brother was big enough, Dad bought him a Dolphin. Lanteen rigged like a sunfish but better.
I eventually inherited the Dolphin when Bro got a Laser.
It was fun, but the Dolphin fleet was dying because everyone was switching to Lasers.
I was getting bored racing handicap class against boats that could smoke me even though I might have won. (If you know handicap rules, that makes sense).
I started just showing up to crew for people in need. At least I knew if I was winning.
Man, it became a thing. People were bribing me.
"Karl's here!" Bum rush stuff. I was a kid, it was weird, but I was good.
I still get calls, usually from my brother if his crew isn't available.
I still know what to do, the problem is pulling it off.
My brother is a very good skipper/Sailor.
I'm admittedly better crew than skipper.
Never got the strategery, understand it, just not good at coming up with the plan.
My buddy owned a sailboat repair business.
(And an excellent sailor. Learned a lot from him)
He rigged it up with a larger genoa jib.
At least 2-3 times a week, wind permitting, we'd put in near my house in bayview, reef the main, he'd man the tiller and me the jib sheet.
We'd kick that thing up and fly across Galveston bay, tack back, do it again.
Two times across and back was a workout like no other.
Got 100,000 steps in a day once't.
