Chevy shake

I've had an 2wd 18' double cab with the 5.3 for the past couple years and have noticed at certain speeds I get a slight shake enough to shake the center cousole and passenger seat if nobodys in it. Normally happens between 70-80 mph. I know they had issues with the 8-speed and the aluminum drive shaft.

Anyone replaced or found a solution? I wouldn't think it would be anything else at 60k miles. I can live with it just curious what you guys have done.

Yep, I'd get a 4 wheel balance and alignment. If that doesn't fix it...look at suspension and U-joints. I highly doubt your driveshaft just went bad... aluminum or otherwise.

It’s a know issue I worked at a dealer. Multiple issue if it’s a tire balance it comes and goes at higher speeds. They also had a drive shaft balance issue and a trans programming issue with a issue with trans shutter. Also a issue with certain tires that’s were out of round but would still balance. Shaped like a egg. Hope that helps. There’s websites devoted to it shakearado I believe.

Front Ball bearings, half axle, rear bearings. The shaft wouldn’t cause that randomly unless you hit something.

i had it recently in my '19 Ram 2500 diesel, me and the wife got it bad on the interstate going about 85 and i thought we were going to wreck. it wobbled up until i stopped. scared the living shit out of us both, it was BAD. mine was caused by a transition in the freeway over an over-pass, there was about a 1-2 inch abrupt transition and it sent me into panic mode.

took it to the dealership and my steering damper was cracked and the steering damper bar was loose/bent, everything was covered under warranty... they called it a "Death Wobble" on my paperwork and seemed to know exactly what the problem was going to be. had it back the same day.

it's been about a month and i haven't had it since.

How many miles on the shocks.
A bad shock will cause a corner to dribble down the road like a basketball .

After re-reading your post, it could very well be a drive shaft imbalance.
If that's what it is, that's gonna affect seals and bearings.

Make sure you don't have any brake drag from a stuck caliper or parking brake, especially in the rear.

Drive shaft imbalances are very easy to diagnose. The fact that is is happening at a particular range leads to not having an issue with the drive shaft. I would lean more towards possible runout on the hubs from rust. To the OP, is it a violent shake on your ass or is it felt only on your feet?

You have a 8 speed? 70-80 light throttle tip in and goes away with no throttle input or goes away with hard acceleration? Go get the transmission flushed. 2018 you fall into the gray area of the trans fluids. There was 5 reformulations where they kept reducing the amount of water in it (on the PPM scale) and finally just took it out all together. So you might have had it flushed before for a shudder issue, but it was with another bad fluid. I can’t even count the amount of flushes I’ve done to correct this issue. I can count on one hand tho the amount of drive shafts I’ve replaced. I’ve probably done a few dozen control valve bodies, but those were for a shift harshness concern. Don’t listen to me tho, I only have 20 years GM experience and am world class certified.

Ask for a “Road Force Balance”. Most tires that come spec from the manufacturer are trash. Bigger the tire, bigger the problems.

I have the 6 speed. So no matter how fast I get to 70-80mph it will shake and it's not at the feet or even the hands it's more at my ass and seems like it's coming from the middle of the truck like the drive shaft or trans. But to counter myself, if I am in that gray area of shaking and I accelerate to 85-90mph it smooths out. no matter the lack of throttle or slowing it down to the 75 area it will shake. I know im not bouncing a wheel, I've had it balanced and rotated a couple times with the same result, no better or worse.

I'm on 33s with 20in wheels, with a street tire, no heavy wearing on any of the tires. I have 17s on 34s waiting to be mounted just wanted to see if I could solve this first. Assuming bigger tires will make it worse? Not sure. I also have shocks and front spindle kit I plan on doing aswell.

Ah with all of the info that sounds more driveline then. I’m assuming it’s lifted with those tires? The driveline working angles should be checked to see where they’re at and adjusted as best as they can. They are even more critical when you have big differences in front and rear pinion angles. Same with the U-joints to check for damage. I still don’t feel it’s a prop shaft problem, but it’s something that needs checked too. In terms of odd ball things I’ve seen cause a vibration on lifted trucks were pinion bearings (common in those trucks for a hum or growling noise with light throttle input), a bent axle flange, and a slipped axle mount U bolt that caused the truck to dog track and threw off the working angles.

Is it transmission shudder? I had transmission shudder with mine at 35mph and 75 mph and told the dealership about it during a oil change. The told me that since I used the word shudder and it was still under warranty they had to flush the transmission for free.

Apparently there’s a class action lawsuit over recent model chevys. Mines a 2018… it felt like I was driving over little bumps in the road when I wasn’t. Weird stuff.

That’s the 8 speed. The 15-16 trucks with the 6 speed had a torque converter clutch that would come apart and cause the front pump to eat it’s self. When that happened people complained of a whine noise and if they went long enough they would lose drive because the aluminum shavings would clog the filter and the trans couldn’t apply the clutch packs with a lack of fluid flow.

Good tip. I had this problem on our Suv. Could not figure out why it kept veering right when i let off the throttle at highway speeds. RR dragging caliper was the culprit.
