John Bodnar is one of the best trauma doctors around, If Chase is not ready next Saturday you better believe he will not get clearance to race.
Why do we want him to race tho????? I would say in my unprofessional opinion the testing for brain injury’s is not accurate 100% of the time and there’s no for sure thing u can do to see the damage like an X-ray . So assume what I said is correct why do we want to take the chance for him to race a couple races he could rest ???

Once saw Staten crash, take out two poles and the fencing.

After that hit and seeing him struggle to move afterwards he obviously had a injury to his brain . I felt like I was watching a UFC fighter after getting tkoed. Seeing his post I think he is gonna race but I feel like someone shouldn’t allow him weather that’s the team or the series idk…
You should definitely call him and tell him not to race. I'm sure he will listen to you over his doctors.

Lots of armchair neuroscientists and neurologists on vital, but no one here knows he has a concussion.

1. If you watch the crash, his head does make it over the take off, and he rolls pretty well, so no sudden stop. It's not obvious that he had a lot of force applied to his skull.

2. Yeah, he was flustered after the crash, but the guy was panicking that he was going from winning to last place, his heart rate was just at 180 for 20 minutes. This is expected.

If it's me, I take an extra week off. I am not in the championship, and it's just one race. However, I get why, having passed all the tests and feeling great on the bike, he'd want to race.

We really need accelerometers on the helmets. We could study which helmets work the best, and we'd be able to give this information to neurologists to make more informed decisions about how must rest the rider needs after a hit.

This is the first good comment opposing my position and I’d say I agree with u on some of that the only place I might differ is the “fluttering” I’d say he looked more wobbly/couldn’t control his body. Definitely need more research on head injuries in the sport though and a more clear line on what constitutes a concussion and a return to racing from the series in my non professional doctor opinion respectfully lol

Actually there's been plenty of good comments differing yours!
Chase said his Dr. cleared him to train this week. He posted himself cycling yesterday. That's his actual Dr.

This is just more proof that new accounts shouldn't be allowed to post for at least a month.

I’m not a doctor didn’t know I had to be one to be able to say his brain was rattled in that crash . He’s a adult and can make his own choices . My question is as fans why don’t we want him to rest so he could recover and prolong his career I want to see him racing 10 years from now still at a high level in 10 years no one will care If he missed 2-3 races when he was already out of a championship. Your logic is so snowflaky it’s like saying “are u a actor??? Then don’t tell me that was a bad movie”

What a stupid take, Don. We've seen years of sports teams shoving their athletes out there while hurt to get hurt even worse. How many stories of CTEs leading to violence have we heard about in the NFL? How many motocrossers have had their careers cut short from injuries and suffered long-term effects or drug issues due to ignoring? None of us are doctors but it doesn't take much to see when someone has had their bell rung. He's probably under a lot of pressure from himself and others to bounce back after throwing away a win like that. No one wants to see someone do permanent damage to themselves over a couple of races that won't salvage his championship hopes anyway. Don't be naive.

You’re misunderstanding my position…I’m not saying that he should be allowed to race or not, what I’m saying is that the professional doctors are more qualified to make that decision and have an opinion than a group of people on a message board who may or may not have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night…the naive ones art the people that think they are qualified because they saw it on TV…The Dr’s that will make the call do not have a vested interest on whether he races or not, only in what’s best for his health…

Not saying you’re right or wrong but couldn’t chase just go to different doctors till he found one to clear him ? I would say obviously go with the professional opinion but I’m not sure the professional opinion is the right opinion because I do think a doctor could have other interest rather then just his health . Are there doctors that clear u basically no matter what just like there are doctors that will give u trt or painkillers as long as they get your business??? Just a lot of questions if u ask me And as a fan of chases I don’t think the risk out weights the reward obviously I’m not in his shoes though

They don't have a vested interest? Who pays the doctors? Every NFL player had a doctor too that either let them go back out or were at least ignored. The interest of athletes and of teams don't always align.

We're all speculating on his condition but let's not act like teams and doctors and athletes haven't ignored what's best for the health of the athlete to get back out there.

I'd be amazed if you showed 100 doctors Mcadoo's crash from last year and asked them if they think he should go ride a motorcycle at high speed, any of them would say, yes, seems like a great idea. I get that we think of these guys as gladiators but it also promotes a culture of disposable athletes that are forgotten about as soon as they're not winning and they have to live with the consequences.

If his doctor says he's good to race and he feels no issues then why shouldn't he? Repetitive brain issues is a big problem (not enough time to heal between injuries), but the body is weird and he might not have even hit his head as bad as it looked.

So you think that because Chase is paying them they will tell him what he wants to hear? There is a medical code of ethics that every doctor has to uphold and adhere to, if they do not they will lose their medical license….pretty sure that they will err on the side of caution when it comes to a brain injury…and if you showed 100 doctors a video they would tell you they couldn’t make a determination on someone’s health without the opportunity to examine them…it’s the non-doctors that think they can make a determination from a video…

I'm not going to state what Chase's doctor did or didn't do. Only that there have been tons of doctors that have violated code of ethics to prescribe medicine or give advice that benefitted them. Chase's doctor may have just said, it's probably not a good idea but it's not the end of the world.

Again, just speculation but let's not act like everything is done in the best interest of athletes. They're not even employees, just contractors to these companies.

Have you passed a concussion protocol test today? Some of your responses, in my unprofessional opinion, lead me to think you may need a week off till after Arlington?Grinning Silly
