First I hear about this rumor. They wanted him at the end of '20 at a 50% discount. Heard there was interest from someone else though

Reagan and Star want Cooper back I've heard, and Webb wants to go back...

Once again, Bobby doesn't own the 450 team.

Word is Eli Tomac already opted into his option for 2023 with Star.

I also heard that Eli & Ken might actually retire at the end of the season... I doubt Ken is willing to race for less than 1/3 of his '22 contract... He's allegedly making $3Mil/year from Honda...

-I don't see AC leaving or Kawi getting anyone else to replace him. Kawi is full
-Potentially a spot at Honda if Ken retires or doesn't agree to a 6 figure contract. Remember, they're gonna need room for Jett in '24 or can he move in '23 after a potential sweep (SX & MX)
-Everyone might be up at KTM. Marvin will most likely retire unless he enjoys his SX only deal and find another one? Potentially 2 spots. Doubt they'll fill 3 spots in '23
-Dylan is up at Yamaha and Eli has a rider option. I'm sure they'd like to keep both but the cards are in the riders hands at the moment. I have a hard time seeing a Eli/Coop team. I'd think Eli might have a say about his teammate if he races in '23...
-I don't see GasGas filling a 2nd 450 guy neither.
-Husky got Mookie for another year. The Husky GP team lost Rockstar. If the US team loses it too, I don't see them spending 7 figures on a high profile 450 guy but more a couple 100ks on a rookie who will be able to make extra dough with personal deals (gear)
-Bunch of 250 guys are moving up Forkner, Craig, Nichols, Cooper, JMart etc... who will be way cheaper options as "2nd" riders vs some veterans of the class with big actual deals. And at the end of the day, budgets & saving money for American distributors of Japanese motorcycles are a factor
Any infor on who beta and triumph might pick ? I know a lot of 250 riders moving up but I’m sure triumph would have deep pockets for a 7 figure guy ?

DV-who owns the 450 team if Bobby doesn't?

Marv to one of the new brands would be a smart move for both sides I think. He still gets to ride and likely gets a decent paycheck and they would get a great rider to dial in the bike.

I wonder if guys like Marv and Ken would go to the world SX series..?

Yamaha owns it. Star is contracted to operate it.

Material prices going up, shipping costs going way up, margins coming down.

Sales went through the roof when we weren't racing in 2020...racing is important but not important enough to pour more money into just cause sales are up. Especially when racing had nothing to do with those sales rising.

I’m mostly interested in Dylan’s move. I don’t think moving to one of the KTM teams will improve his SX results and the current team he’s on is currently winning the SX championship and he won last year’s MX championship and I would assume is a heavy favorite for this years national championship as well.

Unless they throw a crazy amount of money at him, I can’t see why Yamaha would let him slip away when their tide has finally turned. Webb will be interesting, Roczen seems like he’s going to retire.

Kawi is infamous for letting their stars go early so I guess I wouldn’t be surprised if they kick AC to the curb but he will land a solid ride if they don’t renew his contract. I think we may see a few 3 man 450 factory teams if all these riders that plan to move up actually do.
I would assume Eli is the heavy favorite to win the outdoors right now.

I could see Eli retiring if he wins the SX title this year. He may very well win the Nationals too.

I don't see Dylan leaving Star. He's got three titles for them so far and he'd have to be a great shot at defending outdoors unless Eli can start and go truly nuclear again.

Eli you'd assume comes back, he looks pumped to he racing.

Kenny is going to be interesting. A crazy paycut might be too far for him. I'd be shocked if anyone is going to pay him what he has been because they won't likely see him as a championship guy... probably more in the realm of potential race winner and brand guy... different money and does he want to do that.

Coop you'd assume largely comes down to how they sort the bike and do his results improve indoors or out. He's moved away from Aldon, the results have dipped, so KTM won't like that. Coop will point to the bike. Perhaps KTM says Mookie and Deano get through the whoops just fine. Supposedly that bike is built around Herlings so perhaps better outdoors and Coop is a national champ... maybe that makes the difference.

Wow Roczen allegedly making 3M/yr, I bet they're not too happy now. Anyone know if Roczen is currently the highest paid rider, or who is? And not that I think it likely to ever happen, but AC on a Honda would be cool to see imo.

Eli is your number 2 rider. He's only got 1-2 more years before he wants to call it a career. According to him. Dylan has 3-4 more years at least. If hes winning or close to it. You keep them both, keep them happy. Eli leaves bring in a new # 2.

With coop he can see the bikes better, he can see its good. He remembers how good his 250 was. 2 sx titles and mx title on it. He did well on stars training program but lost his way on team yamaha. That's a lot of good reasons to put a 3rd bike under a tent if money allows.
I say it hinges on if he can come to terms with the new ktm or not. If he can get that bike figured out soon an back to winning and keeps rolling into outdoors he might stay ktm. If he's struggling on the ktm he might jump for a good price. He's already made good money.

DV is correct, DF had a some suitors. I’m sure they’ll come after him again. However, if he doesn’t get his shit together it will not help his popularity. I believe he’ll figure it out soon.

Prices on bikes, tires went up

DF14 is surely hot property. Sexton as well. Only can see Jett or Craig being major interest Interesting from the 250’s. Great silly season coming
2/17/2022 7:32pm
I could see Craig keeping a seat warm til Jett graduates. Craig gets Kenny’s ride at HRC on a 1 year deal, Sexton takes his role as the #1 man at Honda. A fast junior rider and an experienced vet has worked in the past.

Plus, that would be one of the most stylish factory duos in the sport’s history.

I thought Eli said he'd like to keep racing as long as he's competitive. He's certainly competitive on the yamaha so I hope he sticks around for another season.

For outdoors I have to give the favorite title to DF. Eli is on a new bike and DF was amazing outdoors in 2021 and is on the same bike.

Agreed. If I'm Kawi I'm giving Dylan whatever he wants. Him and Anderson is a solid team. Forkner and AC have shown great potential, but neither rarely makes it through a whole season healthy. Then you factor in both of their bodies are beat to s--t at such a young age and are not going to be the same. Cut your losses and get 2 solid guys who can make it through a season consistently.

Outdoors with Eli vs DF on those Yamahas is going to make for one of the best seasons in years.

3 titles on Kawasaki's. I don't think the bike was holding Eli back.

I would suggest the bike cost him a real shot at four titles in a row one day at LL.

Sure, maybe he was working the clutch like a madman (maybe, maybe not) but back-to-back DNFs sucked the life out of him that year.
