Beta 2023 Supercross

Who does Beta USA hire for the 2023 Monster Supercross? Who’s contract is up? Will they just hire the Gardners??? Brayton, McElrath, Wilson or Oldenburg? How about Osborne or Sipes? Thoughts????

Brayton is currently in his last SX season. Retiring after that.

Wilson is most likely retiring at the end of the year.

Osborne is retired from Pro SX/MX.

Edit: I believe Forkner is up at the end of the year as well.

Only ones who would consider Beta, a unproven bike, is the ones realizing they dont have a shot at at the title this or next 2 y. Musquin, Wilson, Jmart. Craig maybe if no rides.

I can see them running 2 seasons outdoors before entering Supercross... They already have a full season outdoors under their belt with multiple top 10 finishes in MXGP. Supercross is a whole different game... They need more than 1 extra year of practice and testing before being ready to play. JMHO.

Not necessarily. If they hire a few good riders and at least one suspension guy, they'll be fine. The discipline is not THAT much different from outdoors. I wouldn't expect them to win titles or even a race their first season, but they'd be somewhat competitive.

Basically, Beta won’t be able to hire an Alpha until a Beta proves that the Beta is worthy enough for an Alpha to ride……

They have riders that can develop it. They are currently testing and racing them, just not on the world stage or for all of us patiently waiting to see. Rodney Smith is not gonna have this be a half baked pet project, there’s real work being done.

they would need to hire guys who are good at testing. but that depends on where the bike is already.

i've heard just from their offroad team riders (worcs, GP etc) they are having issues keeping the bike running for events. i would be very surprised if the bike was ready for 2023 which is ten months out? and season prep is 8 months out already. Thats a pretty tight window.

In my mind, the smart move is get the prototype bike ready to be ridding and tested at test tracks all the way through 2023, then in 2024 use their 'works' exemption to continue development.

I could see something like hiring the Motoconcepts team to develop the bike. The team and riders are very good and thorough at testing

Beta should focus on improving their enduro bikes instead of making a half assed odd ball SX/mx bike

I'm talking about development during a SX season. Just like they've done with JvH in the GPs, a very experienced rider with knowledge of what is required to have a package capable of fighting in the top of the standings.


Btw JvH was very adamant that his Beta handled and turned better than his 2020 CRF450R that he raced on in 2020. What they lacked was a powerful engine. It will be interesting how that translates to a tight SX track.

I doubt they get a works exemption.

Tickle would be a good choice. Great with testing and feedback, good enough to put it in the main, not so good as to create unreasonable expectations for the team.
