I witnessed a horrible death at Anaheim 2 last night...

I couldn't believe my eyes as I drank my Modelo and watched it happen from the upper deck:

R.I.P Blue Pig
9.8.09 - 1.29.22

I get the sarcasm, but this topic is not funny in the slightest. Please delete this thread. Death at XXX is nothing to joke about.

I think late on a Monday this is a safe title. Saturday during the showtime, no go, but clearly at this point anyone that follows the sport enough to get on Motodrive knows that nobody died Saturday.

I thought you were going to say that you saw a bunch of industry members have a swoon attack and keel over when Christian Craig beat up on mosiman and crew

One day people may realize that the blue "pig" was never a pig and that Yamaha should just have never gotten involved with JGR (the real pig).

I agree that JGR wasn’t great but factory Yamaha were also bad

But of course that's not just Yamaha. That's every brand that's not KTM group or Kawi.

Suzuki won the title in 2010.

Good catch. Either way a decade+ run by those two programs.

September 8th, 2009 was when Yamaha introduced the 2010 model with the reversed backward slanting cylinder and "mass centralization". This was the bike that James said was so wide it was like riding a quad, and it put him into retirement. Since then, several top pros were happy to get off the blue pig and went on to have better results with different bikes. It was no secret the bike was a pig in Supercross.

Barcia's one off win in 2019 was a mud race, he did not have everyone covered and finished 13th that year.

Anaheim 2, 2022 was the first time the blue 450 had everyone covered in Supercross since James Stewart won 7 races in a row in 2009 on the previous generation Yamaha. Anaheim 2 was not a fluke as both Tomac and Ferrandis have looked great on the bike for the first 3 rounds.

Star Racing shed 8+lbs off the pig and finally have it dialed in for Supercross. The Blue Pig is dead.

It will be interesting to see if Yamaha does a major redesign to slim it down on the next generation. The bike is still a wide load but Tomac says he likes it. Will be interesting to see which direction they go with it.

Barcia won on a dry track at A1 2020 and had the field covered by more than Eli at A2.

Yeah, and A1 is one of those races where anything happens. Based on what Barcia said about the pig after he got off it and started throwing around his GasGas like a BMX bike, and then Star coming on board and shaving 8lbs, I'll conclude A2 2022 was the nail in the coffin. The blue bikes look really good this year and it wasn't just a one off opener round. Ferrandis looks much better this year, regardless of what his results are.

I can't get over the fact that you think it was the bike that put Stewart into retirement.

I'm not going to do your homework for you but you can go listen to James himself.

Here's how his 2012 season was going before he "retired" after his crash at Houston 2012:

So now you've called TWO different Barcia wins a "one off."

I'm not entirely certain you know what that term means...

Yes, A1 is always one of those races...random winners.

Seems like you think the blue pig had everyone covered in 2020 while still at Factory Yamaha huh? Well, I think Star Racing and their 8lb diet was the turning point and it shows this year.

Agree to disagree.

Would love to see some specs on just how "wide" the bikes are compared to other brands. Let's hear from others that ride them as well.

James retired himself, but the bike was such an easy scapegoat for him. Yamaha's mistake was letting JGR do whatever the hell they wanted.

Haven't you heard Eli's latest comments? He likes the Yamaha because it's wider and he can grip the bike better. So yes, it must be wider even though they've thinned it down since the years of James Stewart calling it a quad.

Regardless, it doesn't matter anymore because the Blue Pig died on Saturday night.

I just think the bike takes the blame without acknowledging how much of a shit show JGR was. They brought a Nascar mentality, where one could argue is 90% car and 10% driver, to a sport that is the opposite (90% rider and 10% bike). All manufacturers in both Nascar and Supercross provide competitive equipment. But in Nascar the advantage comes from squeezing every drop of gain out of that equipment, by being right on the edge or just outright cheating. In Supercross, teams do the same but it's all irrelevant if you don't have a rider that can get it done. JGR even tried to have the right riders, but they failed to hold those riders accountable by constantly blaming and tweaking the equipment looking for that "advantage". In the end, they fucked up any balance that very good Yamaha had from the factory. JGR created the "pig" and Stewart gave life to the myth.
