After a messy divorce and with now more time on my hands, decided to pickup another bike after 10+ years on the sideline. Its a new to me 2020 RMZ-450 that I picked up for $5,500. I'm 36 and a little out of shape with a somewhat muscular build and would love to get back into shape to properly ride this thing. As of right now I mostly plan on riding trails (desert and some mountain) but easing myself back into it. My last two bikes were YZ250 two strokes (2005 and 2006) so I'm pretty excited to finally own a 450! Any advise setting up this bike or must do modifications?

Welcome back!
It has a pc link on it and factory connection suspension set up along with a rekluse clutch as I’m sure you know.
I have some of the stock parts for it if your interested in them. The stock exhaust and springs. Pm me if you are interested and we can meet up for the parts and ride.
Dude get's a bike after some time off and the original owner chimes in to go ridin.
NICE!
nice to see another getting back into the sport, hopefully you can put the bad times behind you for good, and enjoy riding again.
No comment on the mods (no experience with Suzuki's) other than the basics like getting suspension sag set. I also try to internet search for my particular model of bike, see if others have given any tips on little improvements to make, or problems to look out for so you catch them in time.

I am old enough (despite how good of shape I am in) that half of the game is just not getting hurt, and minimizing crashes. I found that riding at local MX parks with maintained tracks, are significantly safer to ride than trails. I have never been a trail rider, never raced offroad races, and have always been purely a MX guy. But in my head, I figured riding trails would be the best way to ease back into things, the safest way to get me to slow down and keep off of my ass, but was completely wrong. A nice groomed track, riding at my own pace (which is getting much better), being smart about what jumps I am hitting, was so much more enjoyable, but also notably safer than single track and trails (especially on a MX bike).
Obviously others have different experience, just sharing my thoughts going through the same thing. Maybe find a local MX park that may have a little bit of trails, some tracks, play around with all of it and find out what makes you happy, and safe at the same time, you might be surprised.
Have fun!
As for mods - no idea! Set the sag, get the suspension set up for you (try the suspension as is before spending money on it).
As the article says: the bike may suprise you!
If you are planning on getting back into mx, save trail riding and desert for another day and get better at mx on the mx track. Thats my 2 cents at least!
I prefer the woods. Yes plenty of places to find yourself picking the bike up, but you don't really find yourself in traffic where you might not want to be.
Welcome back man! If I remember correctly, Enzo recommended my pops run sag at 107-110mm on his 20. These things are bulletproof. If you feel it might be a bit too harsh at times you can watch this video.

Otherwise, go out and enjoy riding again dude!
Welcome back OP! Those RMZs sure are fun.
