Hi
Just wondering if anyone has used one of these piston and if so what sort of performance gains did you get.
Any feed back will be appreciated.

I used Wiseco back in the 70-90s but agree with KB. My choice would be CP JE Vertex.

You most likely won’t find too many aftermarket pistons that are made for the later model KTM’s. If not wiseco you may have to go OEM.

Here's something most people don't take into consideration when upgrading, if you get a small postal scale you will likely discover that a Wiseco or Vertex piston kit has a lot more mass than a CP piston kit. Reciprocating mass...

Like was already mentioned you can't get a CP for a late model KTM, I believe the latest CP is for 2017. That leaves you with Wiseco or OEM (Vertex). I would take OEM over Wiseco.

OEM is CP for the 4 strokes. I don't remember when they switched from vertex, but it may have been in 2017. Vertex it's now only OEM in the two strokes.

Which would make sense, if memory serves me KTM is owned by Pierer who also owns Pankl Racing and they own CP Carrillo. I believe that still holds true.

I do find it odd that CP Carrillo's catalog doesn't show a part number for the 21 KTM 450 piston. I wonder if that is to force buyers to buy from a KTM dealer. I also notice the 21 OEM piston is quite a bit more expensive than say the 19 piston.

I have a real world explanation for the piston thing. At my company we have seals that are “special designs” that we use in our products. That seal manufacturer will not list the seal or sell it to anyone but us. So if one of our customers wants that seal, they cannot buy it from the seal company directly. Has to be through us. Im sure thats what KTM and CP are doing.

Same as a 21 KTM compared to $378 for a 2019.

I too believe that the CP pistons are of excellent quality, but I wouldn’t hesitate to use a wiseco racer elite series piston. I believe they come with the better ring material; (can’t remember the name). I’m sure it will be fine either way.

Just replaced my stock piston at 70 hours on my 20.5 Factory Edition and was still in great condition. I installed a wiseco racer elite. Here’s some pictures for comparison, it was completely machined and seemed lighter then The OEM CP piston. I didn’t weight them because I don’t have a small scale so I could be wrong. The Racer Elite is 14.1 also so it runs a little better. w

The racer elite has a lot smaller side skirts but I did also notice it has a lot longer wristpin and a lot more surface area for the wristpin on the piston which would make it more stable and distribute the energy better. It looks like a quality part but time will tell.

Yeh cheers for the feedback, did it improve performance much?

Yes, it’s a good bit more compression so it should naturally add performance. I ported the head at the same time so can’t completely say if performance was solely the piston itself.
