As much as Magoo was hard core about winning, he was absolutely conscious of entertaining the crowd at almost all times (sometimes to his detriment). He also rode way beyond the bike's capability sometimes, trying to do things beyond the bikes capacity to pull it off (easier to have that happen on the older bikes).

Barcia's style seems to me to be more like Carmichael's; charging and letting the momentum save you when everything's flying off. I think Barcia is far less focused on styling than Magoo. Not saying Barcia isn't an enthusiastic, exciting kid to watch, and the novelty is getting the attention Magoo got every moment he was in the track, whether in first or last.

The rider closest to Magoo over the years, IMO, was Guy Cooper. Fan favorite, always ready to oblige with tricks whether in a race or not.

I hate it when the new guys are compared to the vets.

Barcia is not Magoo

RV in not RC

Pourcel is not Bayle

They're new, and cool dudes that are making their own history.

FTE much agreed.....

An original crowd pleaser... FTE I would say beyond the bikes capacity most of the time which is where alot of crashes came from

Guy Cooper rode alot like Danny in some ways for sure.

That is Justin Barcia at Ace MX in New York back in 2004.
I took the pic so I know. Smile

Justin is a cool kid. He knows how to ride a dirt bike very well and people obviously love it when he goes by. I'm not going to compare him to anyone because he doesn't need to be. Everyone has their own style and way of going fast. Justin has his own way. RC has his own way. JS, RV, RD, and down the line. No one is the same. I'd say just sit back and watch the excitement!

I just know Justin is really itching for a win now. Not used to these top 10 rides like this. Smile

Sorry no one will ever be like Magoo.... Danny Pat Chandler will forever be unique in the heart and sole of motocross. As one who was privileged to visit him at the old Auburn Four Wheel Drive shop ran by my friend Doug Hitchcock, I can say. He is born of a spirit that is his alone in our sport. There may be those that seem similar on the outside but none that equal or exceed on the inside.

Long live the Trophee des Nations and the Moto des Nations.

Here `tis. Question 2.0.

Could Barcia elicit the same crowd enthusiasm that Magoo did? He seems to be headed thataway.

No, and I hope not.

Let me add this and then explain: I think I'd add Travis to Cooper as a fan favorite perhaps comparable to Magoo. Those guys were loved because you never knew what was going to happen, but there a not many titles to go with their popularity.

I juts don't see Barcia cut from the same cloth. Barcia is new, and terrific and there's a buzz, but I'd rather he have the success and enthusiastic following that RC, Stewart and MC enjoyed.

Win barcia gets some wins under him he'll be awesome to watch and a fan favorite. I couldnt ait to see him ride at freestone to see him all over that bike, but his results need to improve a tad before he gets a giant fan base.

I believe Justin's best track to get a moto/overall win would be Southwick.
He even gets Dowd shaken his head there.
