apparently I got banned

Not sure what I did, I know there was a thread that was controversial that I posted in.
It seemed rather civil and I didn't think I upset anyone with my posts. We didn't all
have the same point of view but the thread itself seemed rather civil. Beyond that,
I'm at a loss. If I pissed anyone off, sorry.
I've actually been not posting for quite a while and recently just started again. One thing
strikes me odd. There is now likes and dislikes. What I don't understand is that reading
some threads, some posts get dislikes for no apparent reason.

I think these random acts of banning were occurring under the prior administrator and seemed to be more personal (like a power trip).
Also it seemed as though people pushed the limit more so under guyb just for the heck of it (knowing his political leaning)..then just create a new profile. Kind of like a game ..

The forum has remained very calm with the new admin and likely the random banning has stopped..

I think instead of banning folks, just delete the thread and be done. Could never understand the game of clipping people and then having to grovel to guyb ( he seemed to like that process).

Only been clipped once and stayed away until he was gone. I wasn't gonna give him the satisfaction.

Well , if it makes you feel better,..........last year while my city ( Portland ) was getting destroyed and burnt to the ground , I mentioned in a thread that " I support the police ".......I got banned for " Choosing sides "

Figure that one out. I still can't. Was benched for like 10 God damn months!

I'll also add another note here. When a thread starts to go sideways and crazy , " Most " of the time , it corrects itself and settles down. Instead of babysitting a bunch of adults here , why not just let it play out , until when / if it crosses the line? It does seem to be less mafia style here now.

I'm usually on the "other" side of the discussion and I've been clicked a couple times for it. Sometimes I was surprised by it sometimes I wasn't, but GuyB didn't ban only one side despite what you might think.

9 times out of 10 , the bans leaned my way. Go open up a couple 3 - 4 year old threads , and just look at how many of those people are gone. Almost all of them leaned my way , and the guys on the opposite side , got let back in within a month or two.

Did you ask to be reinstated? I did. Yeah it sucks that alot of people aren't around here anymore. If it was my choice I wouldn't have banned alot of those people, most were just a little fired up, only a few I've seen go full nuclear.

I got clicked because I used a certain politician's name and said that I actually agreed with something that they were doing. Because I used that politician's name, Gibby decided that it was too political. I was fairly surprised as that person's name was used a lot in many different ways and it wasn't a politician that I normally support on many things, either.

Most of the time I think that Gibby focused on folks who mostly painted the people who don't share their views as evil, used broad strokes to paint opposing ideologies in disparaging terms instead of focusing on the actual issues, etc.

Join the club. I just suddenly found I was clipped last year. No notice. Multiple emails by me merely trying to find the “why” and “how long/permanent?” were ignored.

To this day I don’t know why and I had to start a new account. The only post I could think of was me presenting a “maybe we should also consider x, y, z”, not a direct statement or opinion. Bizarre.

Honestly , even though I was a little irked about it , I was ok with it. It was his board and he could do whatever he wants. I didn't much miss this place any how. Got tired of all the bickering back and forth and constant bullshit. Kinda why I still don't post all that much here any more.

I got a temp ban for posting anti-religious stuff in response to an overly religious post. I emailed guyb after and said I didn't even care if he unbanned me but it was silly for me to engage so bad with the other poster. He reinstated me right away and just said thanks for understanding.

Well at least you guys knew you got the boot. Reading why you got the boot I think I'm pretty sure I know why I got the boot. I actually gave myself the boot a number of years back. During the time my wife was going through her cancer treatments I was not in a good place. I noticed myself posting things that were sometimes rude to others and decided I need to step away. I guess we'll see how the future posting goes.

I actually didn't realize it for about a week or so. And I am not entirely sure that was the post that got me a 'time out', but there was nothing else going on at all that I had posted that was remotely controversial (although neither was that one) so my assumption was that was the one. It and a lot of others in the conversation got deleted so I am pretty confident that it just got caught up in the avalanche.

I’ve been clipped by GuyB for being an officer. There was a political thread and someone tried baiting me in by starting political nonsense and tried baiting me in. I responded something the effect of “I don’t do politics” and I got clipped. I sent GuyB a message asking why I got clipped (the guy starting the political debate didn’t get clipped by the way. Most likely because he was on a certain “side”) but I never got a response from him. I’ve been a member here since like 2010 and don’t start drama or shit post at all. Yet we were the “targets” under the former ruler. ML has been awesome and this website took a huge step forward since he took over. I should probably ask him for my old account back Laughing

I'm on another board with around 100 dudes , most of which were clicked from here. It is a large group indeed.

You know what's weird though? I have quite a few really close friends and family members whom are on the polar opposite side of me. In real life , face to face....I love them all. I seemed to of lost a couple people who I considered really good friends , as they basically cut me off. Crap....I met GuyB quite a few times and I dug hanging out with him. Good dude in person. One of my other buddies actually posts here quite often, but kicked me to the curb. Kinda sad. But it is what it is.

I think we all interact differently in person. Whether we choose our words differently because we get feedback in real time watching body language or just know people better and adjust the conversation to who we are with. We sure miss a lot through just keyboards and screens.
