Not sure if this is the right section but here it is, sorry if it's not.

I have some Tech 7's, late 2020 boots for what that's worth, got about 8 hours on them.

For the past 3 hours, I've been running a Ti rear brake tip mainly for it being slightly bigger, however it's fairly pointy in a similar vane to Raptor pegs (which I do not have, just mentioned for reference).

I do use the rear brake, but I don't drag it and I'm rarely hard on it,

In this time, it has absolutely eaten the area of the sole that it's used with, to the point that this afternoon a decent sized chunk pulled off with zero effort after I saw it hanging off.

No beef with Alpinestars, they're comfy and have decent flexibility (actually preferred them to the Tech 10's I tried on, if you can believe that), but is this sort of rapid wear normal / expected? I'm slow and easy on all areas of the bike in fairness, so just wondering for future reference.

I like having a slightly bigger area on the brake tip but can't say I've noticed or needed the extra traction there so I'll probably buzz the tips of the teeth down a little flatter.

I have 3 seasons on my tech 7's and they have held up great. I prob have about 150 hours on them and they still look pretty decent. I have some wear on the bottom of the sole where I stand on the pegs but not terrible. I some what recently got some sharper aftermarket pegs(flo) and they have increased wear slightly but not bad at all. I would contact alpinestar if I were you.

Thanks man, seems seriously excessive, I can remember getting a good season out of old ones and being impressed with the wear rate and using them for another year.

I don't wanna be that guy, moaning about wear and tear, but I'll shoot them an email as it seems way beyond what I've experienced in the past and your experience above.

Thanks man, have a good one 👍

You can contact Astars, but I doubt they will do anything other than tell you what glue to use to do the repair yourself. They may offer to glue new soles on for a fee. Sidi and Gaerne have the toughest soles. Forma might be there too but so few people run them it is hard to know.

Thanks man, wouldn't really expect them to do anything, just kinda sucks.

How are the Gaernes, toe box really that much chunkier these days? Not sure how I feel about that if it is wayyy bigger.

If you want a small toe box you want sidi. Astars toe box is pretty big to me. Gaerne may be smaller than what you have now. You will probably lose some peg feel but maybe not. Those thick rubber soles on the sg12 and the sidi crf3 ta don’t really have any cushioning other than the rubber. Try both pick what fits best. Gaerne don’t fit me as well as sidi but everyone’s foot is different. The padding doesn’t sack out in either like the Astars.

The tech 10 might be the safest boot you can buy for mx but the tech 7 is definitely not. Both sidi and gaerne are better if you kick rocks or stumps. The forefoot is a lot stiffer than tech 7/10.

A file for your brake tip and Shoo Goo for your boots.

I know this is going to sound funny but I had the same thing happen on a couple pairs of boots. What was happening was the my boot was hitting my foot peg anytime I kickstarted the bike. Might want to rule that out.

Not sure if they are different material than the tech5s but here are mine @ 30hrs and running decently sharp Pro Pegs.

This is the left, right isn’t even showing peg marks. Boots are a 2021 model if that makes a difference.

After around 50 hours on stock pegs the last 2 pairs of tech 5's I had were pretty much toast. I had more wear than that in one day.

OP, there are a few threads on here regarding AStars and their soft soles. I've gone from AStars to Forma and very happy with the switch

There was someone on here who was speculating that sharper pegs hold your foot in place better and don’t slide around as much so that could be the cause.

Again, just speculation.

I'll grab a pic sometime, they're suuuper cut up, wouldn't even class it as wear, I doubt I could do worse with a carpet knife haha, those Tech 5's above for example look like decent expected wear and I'd be happy with that Smile

The kickstarter/peg thing is a good call though, I didn't even consider that but I'm gonna have to check as I can totally see how that would go bad fast, thank you!

The brake tip on question is a pointy little fella, but its not Raptor sharp and I really don't lean on it as the thing turns on the throttle anyway and while I do use it I'm definitely more front brake biased, I'm not good enough to slide the thing around like a badass haha
