The jetting sounds pretty off in the low-mid openings.

Yeah right now it's stock jetting and I'll be playing with the pilot next ride out to see which may help! Prob running lean I'd assume with the elevation here around 2500ft...thoughts?

The elevation will make the bike richer. That sounds like a rich stumble/stutter in the vid. Assuming the jetting is the same as previous years, sounds like a swap to a leaner 48 pilot and maybe the N3EJ needle would be a good start.

Sometimes even just going up a clip on the needle will take that stutter out of it.

Yeah I agree with the rest, it’s most likely in the needle I’d bet. But pilot and needle changes are both easy.

Good riding though! Stretching out some of those jumps looked fun!

First thing every long time Yz 250 owner does is deck the head. The squish was barely out of spec for years maybe they finally fixed that, but I doubt it.

The bike came with a stock 50 pilot and includes a 48 and a 52 as well, do I install the 48 for my situation? Also, since it's broken in now, should I go up to 40:1 or 44:1 ratio to help with the crisp response?

Go down a size on the pilot, and move the clip on the needle one spot further away from the pointy end.

Thank you! I'll put the 48 in and move the clip one position further from the tip, any insight for fuel ratio?

Pick something and leave it alone, and adjust the jetting until the bike gets dialed.

Don’t think playing with oil mix is the way to try to tune a bike in.

Got it! Will do and will run recommended stock oil ratio Smile thanks again!

I would stick with 32:1. It's actually a leaner fuel ratio. I'm at a similar altitude and went to a 45 Pilot & 180 main with a PC exhaust. The 48 should help clean it up a bit. You will most likely need to readjust the air screw also.

In making the seat flatter, did the footpeg to seat distance get taller?

sick bike but I don't know what the hype is about, it's the same bike as last year with a new gas tank. Am I forgetting anything?

Break in? Whats that? A 2 stroke motor is "broke in" the second you start the motor. The only thing that is needed is warming up the motor for a few seconds to let metal expand before you stretch the throttle cable. This is also more important in forged pistons like the Wiseco etc.

32:1 oil ratio. This is the perfect combination for all around riding and racing. And before anybody chimes in with "I run 100:1 and its perfect, the more oil THE BETTER. in fact, if you can run richer, do it. More oil creates more seal around the piston and produces more power. 32:1 is the best all around

Stock Yamaha pistons, for the average speed/skill rider last 20 hours.......... you've been warned. Replace stock pistons every 20 hours, or before, or they will break intake skirts and it usually gouges the cylinder when they do.

20 HOURS max on stock pistons.....

When you do the first top end, replace with a Wiseco Pro-lite, 2 ring piston (they make a 1 ring piston for quicker rev, but has to be replaced about ever 10 hrs) Just warm the bike up little longer then usuall and these pistons, for the average rider, will last around 75 hrs or better. But again, you have to warm up a little longer to let the piston expand.

Other then the piston, use all stock OEM parts for the motor, they are top notch and nothing is better.

Youre jetting on this bike really varies on fuel you use. So stick with the same fuel your gonna use and continue to use it. I will tell you the difference in jetting for VP to Renegade or even pump gas is several different sizes on the pilot. We were running 42.5 pilot with VP 112 and 48 with Renegade. If you add a pipe, you will raise the jets higher.
Pro Circuit pipes make the best power, but in the age of 4 strokes, they bend very easily while cornering, the left side bend will drag the ground and bend into the frame. Almost the first time you ride it. The best all around pipe is the FMF, good power and good durability. Then buy a, E-line carbon fiber pipe protector and is adds strength. But if you are good in the corners, they will still bend eventually

If you're gonna use pump gas, I would at least try to mix 1 gallon race/ per 4 gallons of pump if you can. This is strictly for engine detonation and does nothing for performance. But if you do, make sure to keep using the same fuel setup. We use 50/50 mix of pump and race. With Maxima 927. (but a multiple brands make good quality oil) Just dont switch oils once you choose a brand unless you're gonna do a crank swap. Some oils dont mix (i.e. Castor based or some synthetics) and will cause lower bearing failures.

Over 40 years experience with these bikes, take care of them and they are bullet proof and reliable as hell.

Literally ONLY swapped out the pilot from a 50 to a 48 and moved the needle position to position #1 vs #2 and now the bike won't start....Any ideas??? I'm so confused as everything is where it should be...Is there electrical concerns with these new 22' carbs???

Butt plug in the exhaust? Rag in the air box? Spark plug lead on? Throttle cable not binding up? Install the cable back onto the slide correctly?

Everything is in order and I didn't touch the spark plug the bike will also not allow any gas to drain if laid on it's side so that's odd...

Sounds like the gas is off, or the float is stuck up and not letting fuel into the carb.

This. Remove the drain plug from the float bowl, turn on the gas and see if it flows freely out the bottom of the bowl. If it does not, tap the side of the bowl repeatedly with the butt end of a plastic screwdriver handle to see if you can jar the float loose.
