So after not having a dirt bike/racing MX since 2001, I picked up a 2022 KTM SX 250. Can't wait to start mixing it up for last place in +30c! I am an avid snowmobiler, but since winters have been getting worse and worse here in NY, I figured I better get something to ride or I will lose it lol.

You are going to love that bike! Take your time and ease back up to speed slowly and safely.
Coming back to the sport after and absence feels really good...you will love it

Awesome! I grabbed a 21 250SX this year getting into it and have been absolutely loving it! Use AJ/Diggger's jetting thread and you will be all set with whatever comfort adjustments you want to the suspension (stock I just had compression clicked up a few and psi set at the standard 151 it called for in manual as a 165-170lb rider.) Otherwise it will rip stock (including that stock pipe/silencer). I will join you in +30C Smile

Awesome! I just picked up the same bike! You're going to have a blast on it! I know I am! The stock settings are pretty spot on imo. I'm at 230lbs so I went up 2 psi in the forks and put a 51Nm spring on. Enjoy the ride!

Yes I know it is. I am kind of leery of 250 4s and I am too big (fat) for a 125/150 at 200 lbs. I fully plan on playing with the different PV springs and adjustments. As well as gearing if need be or a added fly wheel weight to make her rideable if it seems out of control.

Also to anyone with a newer 250 KTM/husky. Are you really mixing at 60:1 like the books calls for? That seems like no oil IMHO.

I run 55:1 in my bike and the jetting I have set up is for that ratio as well.

Yep, running 60:1 (Motorex and 92 octane with no ethanol) and I'm at 52hrs so far on bike since March. Using AJ's jetting ^^

By winters in NY have been getting worse and worse, you mean too warm to snowmobile or just too freezing to do anything in general?

On Katoom/Hooska/GasGas I run T2 cut down to 50:1 with VPR. All the bikes run and rev INSANE. Same for my 2007 RM125.

Note: I'm a puss! I'm too scared to go beyond 50:1 Grinning

Getting warmer and or not consistent cold or snow. We get cold and snow for a few days then a day of 45⁰ and it wrecks everything and makes the woods and low spots a mess. And places like Tug Hill or East or lake Erie which were always good for snow are hit and miss due to wild temperature swings.

50:1 is lean on oil! LoL. I'm used to the days of 32:1 of 927 castor...which I'm told is a no no in these ktm's? Though I'm not sure why, it a Power valve carburated two stroke just like we had in the 90s and 00s?

I had 1 too, srs pipe, piston, fmf ignition, carbon tech reeds, Great setup. Nothing to worry about, just ride the 250 exactly like your RM125. Sounds like the pv is adjustable, just like your RM.

My RM was basic, had FMF pipe and silencer and a set of 909 bars. Yours sounded cooler haha. It's cool talking bikes with you guys. While I have been waiting for my bike to come in I have been checking out the local MX scene and it's not anything like it was back in the day. But as I read different threads on here that seems to be a common thread. Which is too bad. As soon as I could talk my parents into it, that's all I wanted to do was ride a dirt bike...Guess people are different now these days.

Yeah in the 90,s it was different, a lot more tracks and way more riders. A lot of construction workers, a few would pitch in and rent land, borrow equipment from work. Our main track you had to be a club member. We had a lot of members, but everyone complained about the hard pack track with big square holes and rocks everywhere. 3 other vet riders and myself rode there a lot, noon to dark. Track had a lot of hills, step ups, clay whoops we had a blast. It never matterd to me, how many are at a track. As long as I get a lot of riding in.

Do not wind it all the way in, it will be a total shit show and you'll hate it, as anyone would... no offence, but that is advice from someone who clearly hasn't tried what they are suggesting 🤦‍♂️

Welcome back and enjoy the bike GeeZ, they are genuinely awesome.
