KTM 2011 250SX Need to replace a discontinued shock. What would you do?

I'd be scouring eBay, though there is a member here who could do it for you. cdoggy81 is his screen name I believe. He had some KYB fork and shock parts for sale in the Bazaar recently so maybe he could help out?

Is the shock body longer, or just the shaft? If the shaft is longer, maybe pick up another body and use your existing shaft.

KTM still makes PDS bike for off-road, maybe some of them have the same overall shock length as your SX?

Kreft makes shock body’s but not sure for this model.

What's damaged about it? Piston wore through the coating or something else? If it's a coating issue, you can polish it up, strip it, and re-anodize. It won't be perfect, but it will probably work fine. Depends on how bad it is, really.

The upper shock body is the same external part for 2011 250sx, 250XC and 300XC as well as 2012-2016 250/300 XCW models. The high speed valve adjuster and stack (DCC) is 250 SX specific and should be changed from your 250SX into an XCW upper body if you decide to go that way. Even if it was still available I would never spend over $1000 for that part of the OEM SX shock. An Ohlins shock would be less expensive than the total price of rebuilding yours with the OEM parts. A new XCW upper shock body is less than $300 part number 50180833SA2

I have used 2010 Øhlins shock on mine. it lowers the rear 1cm.

It seems that Motorhead1812 , (and others) has given you an afforable solution to your problem, but, just how long eye to eye is your shock?

With my PDS conversion on my CRE500, I fitted an Ohlins KT994. That had an internal spacer I removed , to bring the shock to something like 117.5mm travel, and 417.5mm eye to eye to match the through to 2016 EXC PDS set up, to use the lower leverage ratio I wanted. Those numbers could be a mm or a bit out, as I'm measuring with the shock on the bike. I can't recall the exact thickness of internal spacer - 6 / 7 / 8mm ? - and it's gone awol in my parts drawers, just as I've wanted to re-fit it to lower my bike, as my buggered legs need all the help they can get, nowadays, and, my puttering pace through the tight bush I ride in I won't notice the loss of travel......

I just went looking for the old Ohlins shock listings and specs, that I used in my research for the conversion, but they seem to have been deleted. But I do remember a wide variety of shock lengths on PDS bikes - sometimes of 'same year and type eg: SX to SX, EXC to EXC - listings had differences generally in amounts of 1 to 2 to .5 of a mm. A can't recall any PDS Ohlins shock being listed at more than 417.5 / 418.5mm, in the 2010 and up era.

That was originally intended for a 2011 250SXF linkage bike. It will not fit a PDS bike like his 2011 250SX.
