WP Xact shock problem

So I pulled my bike out of the van the other day and noticed a bit of oil on the floor, and zero oil resistance in the shock. Naturally I blew the shock seal.... no big deal. I pull the shock and notice the shock housing had loosened itself, and lost all of the oil. I posted pictures of what had happened and did some investigating and noticed the plastic shock collar was getting hung up on the threads even after i cleaned them up. I assume i must have lossened it while adjusting my sag. Is this a problem anyone else has had? If not maybe something you can keep an eye out for.....

I’m surprised the plastic collar was able to do that. I had that happen on mine with an aluminum adjuster. I believe that uses 2701 loctite, but I’m not positive

Nah, I've had them come in before like that. Sometimes WP uses way too much thread sealant and sometimes they don't use any at all. Make sure to check/replace the O-ring up top if you are going to fix it yourself.

I have not seen it happen but i have removed it an re-installed the part with just normal 243 loctite without a problem. Be sure to check or replace the o ring on top.

Pro circuit, factory connection and ride engineering make an alloy upgrade for them and Xtrig/KTM/Husqvarna make one that uses an 8mm socket for adjustment and does away with the plastic collar also.

I buy them from my local WP specialist. Look for authorized resellers nearby you.

That's great to know, I've spoke to a couple of tuners that can't find them. Same with the plastic baffle rings on the seal heads on the new 2021 airfork

Yep, amazing to see them come apart... my 2020.5 shock, they must have used sleeve retainer on the reservoir, it actually broke the hardened steel removal tool and I had to send it in for removal... it was so tight from the thread lock it actually destroyed the reservoir when removing it.

Did you heat it up before removal?
I use a propane torch and heat it up real good before removing. Make sure to not get the shock oil on you afterwards.

I had to heat my reservoir with a mapp torch and use the biggest strap wrench I could find. Even then, it barely broke loose. I could easily see where if you used just a pin spanner in the holes it would twist or crumple the reservoir. I think the ideal method would be to have one guy on a pin spanner and one on a strap wrench.

Yes, heat was used... ive done several before, but this last one was really tough to get off.

This barely worked for me on a really tight res with heat. Anything better out there to make it easier?
