I’m sitting in my drill cabin on a huge pipeline project in BFE Midwest with every color and nationality but I’ll go with the white guy attending aerospace conferences as my barometer on racial issues in America. Last time I checked, raped women aren’t stoned to death in the street and gays aren’t thrown off buildings in America.
Educated engineer with a world of experience or a roughneck that works with a bunch of different races? I'll stick with the educated camp bucko.

Ask your coworkers how they feel when they go out and about in BFE Midwest sometime. I'm sure they'll be like "everyone just LOVES me!!"

Nope. Guarantee they're dealing with racism daily. Sorry your barometer is as narrow as your coworkers, I tend to extend my dataset a little wider.

Did you read the study?

They asked a bunch of people two questions and decided based on whether they gave racist answers. Not exactly a solid study.

Incarceration percentage by race, income equality by race, education by race, there's a lot of WAYYYY better and very measurable parameters to determine a racist country.

Although I've been to India and will say those folks are also racist as fuck.

I love America, but I think it's completely moronic to say that this country isn't racist. lol But keep doing you and posting studies that you didn't actually look into.

I've spent so much time in Logan and Salt Lake for aerospace conferences...that place is racist as all fuck. Get out of here.

Texas? Racist
Alabama? Racist as fuck
Georgia? Racist

Dude, I'm not just spewing shit...I've been to all these places and heard the word nigger get uttered like it's the word fuck or shit...they just throw it around. I'm white and got called a nigger lover for listening to rap at a conference in Alabama.

You must be out of your fucking mind. Point blank.
I hate to feed the troll, but I've lived in Texas for 39 years and I haven't heard the N word uttered in casual conversation since grade school. Maybe you should surround yourself with classier people?

I don't hear language as crass as yours in my daily life, either.

I'd rather just talk dirt bikes than race on this site...it's clear that we don't see eye to eye, doesn't mean I don't like you, just disagree with you.

I'll concede, I'm not on Vital to talk politics or race...you can have this one. I'm done engaging on this topic.

Happy for Jo and Malcom, but Utah is still racist as fuck, the south is still racist as fuck, and half the people that post here are likely racist redneck idiots.

Sorry, definitely still an issue.

Saying that a crowd full of MX fans cheering for a rider is contrary to the news and to ACTUAL FUCKING RACISM is such a joke...c'mon. You have your head so far up your ass you think everyone is locked in arms singing "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay".

This country is the biggest racist piece of shit I've ever been to. I've been to 23 countries at this point in my life and we are hands down the most ignorant, backwards, redneck shit hole I've ever seen. And that's compared to Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, MEXICO...America is racist.

And the fact that you think 20,000 people cheering for a black athlete negates that speaks volumes in and of itself and about you.

Nice try.

Are you really going to claim Cambodia is less racist than American when they have a history targeting minority racial groups? Taking land from indigenous people...not allowing those of Chinese decent to vote, and sometime imprisoning them? The UN was involved in Cambodia as recently as 2019 trying to fix their human rights violations.

I don't think you know as much as you think you do...if Cambodia is your example of a country that is less racist that America.

America has its issues, and there are racists here, but they are the vast minority of people...but at least in America ALL people-regardless of race-can own property, vote, have free speech, can own guns, ect. ect. ect. That isn't the case in many 3rd world countries around the world. The racism here is a fraction of what others experience in 3rd world countries...

My reference to Cambodia was more from my experience in dealing with the people there rather than their political situation. Agreed, likely a poor reference. My point was that I've experienced and witnessed more racism in our states than in those countries...so from my perspective. The people in Cambodia were actually amazing, to be honest...everyone was helpful and kind and really into what we were doing there. Which was awesome.

Point being, from a person to person perspective...you have to be a pretty white and sheltered individual to not be privy to the absolute ridiculous amounts of racism there is in America. If you haven't seen it, good for you...but it's rampant and everywhere. I'm white af, and I witness racism of colleagues and friends weekly if not daily.

I’m not sure if it was mentioned in the race thread, but the crowd reaction for Malcolm’s podium should remind everyone things aren’t as bad as the news wants you to believe. It seems like every story tries to divide us nowadays but we had a French guy/Japanese kid/African-American racing in a predominantly white sport in UTAH and the crowd and industry couldn’t have been happier for each one of them. Next time you want to keep up with the “hillbilly Neanderthal” sport nonsense, remember SLC.
You're saying that you want to use one event to represent everyone, while simultaneously complaining about how the media uses one event to represent everyone?

Hmm.

You're both wrong.

Considering this was his first 450 podium, yes we only have one event for this particular scenario. He obviously has been a fan favorite since he turned pro to lead up to this moment. He’s probably been cheered by millions of fans over the years but even people is this thread want to mention 30 drunken idiots doing racist shit to his brother 15 years ago. That’s the negativity I was originally talking about.

If your point is that there are probably more non-racists than racists, then I'd have to agree.

It's just not nearly as binary as you tried to make it with your last sentence from the first post, "Next time you want to keep up with the “hillbilly Neanderthal” sport nonsense, remember SLC.".

Because what you did was object to the "people are awful" comments from the media by countering it with "people are not awful", when in reality, neither are true. Two sides of the same coin, both painting a bogus picture.

When 99% of people are good and 1% are bad, it’s extremely more accurate to say “people are not awful” than it is to say “people are awful”. Those 2 statements are not equally incorrect. That is what you’re wrong about.

Ha, I originally wrote, "and we'll never agree on where the line is". Guess I should have left it in there.

There's nearly 1% of the population in jail and there are waaaaaaaay more awful people than just those in jail, so clearly I'd have to disagree with where you draw the line.

It's good to be optimistic, just not hippie-spinning-in-circles optimistic.

I noticed the crowd roar and I believe it’s because he is cool and likeable. Not because he is dark skinned. I am pleased to say I didn’t even draw that conclusion and I believe most didn’t.
We should be judged on the merit of our achievement and that’s what happened!
We have a way to go, but I agree that that cheer is a positive indication.
Go get a win Malcom, I’ll be happier than a pig in shit!

I do my best not to paint with a broad brush and believe every situation is unique and different, but I'll give my own personal experience from last night.

I was walking my dog when our small town cop was driving by stopped to talk to me. I've never had any interaction with him other than waving when he drives by my house. He asks me if I've noticed anybody strange walking around. There's been what I think to be a middle aged mentally handicapped guy walk by my house a few times, talking to himself and asking innocent questions, so I say, "Strange how?". He (word for word) says,"You know, someone who (sneers this part) doesn't belooooooong." I look confused for a few seconds and he continues, "You know, black guy. Tank top, tattoos. He's been seen walking around town talking to himself." I said I hadn't seen him, thanked him for stopping to talk, and kept walking my dog. Once again, I believe every situation is unique and shouldn't be covered under "all cops are bad" or the "thin blue line" way of thinking, but a guy can't just walk while black without getting the cops called on him? I'm finding it hard to see it a different way.

Congrats on the podium Malcolm!

Google the bodycam video of what happened with Zayd Atkinson. I can say that I have been doing what he was doing many times and have never had an officer question me, let alone pull his gun on me. If you find the entire video, note how the older person who "vouches" for him doesn't actually have to prove who he is or that he belongs there, despite Atkinson having weapons drawn on him for just that. I think that anyone who believes that race played no part in that interaction is being willfully delusional.

Oh, it's gorgeous, and the hiking is great with awesome access to the mountains. However, the population is entirely crunchy hippies that have lived there since the 70s, college kids looking to party, and uber-rich people who want everything their way.

They have things like mid-block crosswalks that you have to stop for, despite stop light cross walks being less than 100 yards in either direction.

Traffic too bad on a four lane? What should we do? Oh, I know, lets make two lanes bike lanes and then everyone should go back to the highway, right?

When I was in car sales there, I had people decide what car to buy based off a goddamn divining stone.

I guess more than anything it's just not for me. But as a white dude in his thirties who feels animosity there as a working class guy, I can only imagine how it feels to be a black man. The whole town reeks of a superiority complex, and due to laws, none of the surrounding communities can expand to within a seven mile bubble surrounding Boulder, ensuring that the people who live there can continue to feel superior with their ridiculously over priced community.

Humans have problems. Racism is a big one,
Dehumanizing people who are different seems to be pervasive. Happens on Vital all the time. Happens in the US, England, Japan …….

Eventually, (think centuries) well all be one skin tone, or maybe free to alter appearance at will via biotech, and we’ll find new, fascinating ways to marginalize each other.
