In case you missed his MXA interview -

What can you expect in the future?

"I expect a two-stroke comeback at some level because of cost, sound and maintenance."

Donnie knows the sport well. Some of the mfgrs would do well to listen.

Actually Donnie Emler is someone MX riders should listen to. He has been in this business along time. I think he's right about the 2 strokes. Now go tell all the 4 stroke fans.

Have you heard about the 125 class next year in Europe?

Are you aware Yamaha just made a five year two stroke commitment at the dealer convention in Vegas?

Croom MX-you hit the nail on the head about listing to Big D. Both Donnie Emler and Danny LaPorte also ride two strokes a couple of times a week.

It would have to be a totally new design as the previous ones had reached the end of their development.
I think i read somewhere that engineers had pretty much gotten all they could out of that shape of engine, hence a totally new design is needed

Still got plenty of good smokers old and new(er) to go around for anyone that wants one.

And plenty of races to race 'em at.

He's talking about the Chinese getting into the game big time, undercutting the legs outta the Japs. Okay, that's my guess, but you gotta admit it's a good guess. If you could get a Chinese RM250 knockoff for $1900, you'd buy it with the quickness... and then spend a ton of money at FMF hooking it up...

STFU dumb bot! If it's all the same to you, I think I'll listen to what Emler has to say over your drivel.

And even if it's not.

Ok dumb ASS. I have a private practice track in the Indy area. I am trying to start a public practice track. My problem is an '09 kx 450 in stock form is to fucking loud. It is very stupid to have a STOCK bike that is that loud. We do not have a practice track closer that 2 hours from one the the biggest motorsports town in the world. Its the noise stupid.

Cost, sound, maintenance.

Why did Emler price the exhaust at 1000+ bucks a unit?

Why not add some more muffler packing or DESIGN one quieter? Why doesn't FMF take the industry lead and do something about the noise since they are the leader in exhaust systems?

Sounds like a bunch of excuses to me....

There's one thing manufacturers are sensitive to more than the fatter gross margins that thumpers have delivered and that's lower overall sales volume more than offsetting those margins. I suspect that a downward-trending top line sales volume has the rising sun board rooms scrambling for a solution. Not that smokers will reverse the trend, necessarily, but it's the one bullet they can fire without too much effort.

A 2 stroke runs fine on Supertech 2 stroke at 8 bucks a gallon and Dexron ATF in the trans at 7 bucks a gallon too. Even Dexron VI is only 9 bucks a gallon

Try to maintain a fourstroke like that.
Maybe a BR9ES at 2.50 once in a while.

2 strokes will never die. The rest of the world needs and uses them for every day living/activities. Talking about 3rd world countries who don't have the money or environmental laws to warrant 4 strokes. 2 stroke development/production must continue.

THose third world countries are still using the step though 90's from the early 70's and that works fine for them....no advancements in technology needed just a bigger basket to put groceries from the store.

Along with the EPA and CARB having a say. Bitchen for those that live in the middle of the US, expect the east and west coast to become more stringent in the years to come.

Unless - the Manufacturers do some good lobbying in Washington.
