Wossner rod kits

Does anyone have good or bad feedback on getting an OEM crank rebuilt with a Wossner kit? I can get one for a good price, just want to make sure it's a quality piece.

I know they make some damn good automotive products, I'm sure that will transition to the motocross side of things too. Just wanted some reassurance.

FWIW, I haven't used personally but only heard good things about them from builders I trust. I've just had such good experiences with ProX rods I haven't found a reason to try Wossner as of yet............

I have noticed a lot of complaints about Pro-X components being outsourced to China, have you had any Pro-X products that have been a downgrade in quality?

I'd rather go with the wossner parts over prox. Prox was bought out by wiseco a few years back. The pistons are no longer made in Japan. The rods are supposed to still be.

I wonder if anyone has taken an oem rod vs a prox and compared. Oiling holes see if they match oem or are they not as good.

I have one in my KTM Duke 640. They have a good reputation. I don't have a ton of miles on it so I can't give you any kind of longevity report.

I’ve had great luck with Pro-X. I didn’t hear anything about them being bought out. That would be a shame, Seizco cranks are garbage. I’ve seen one out of balance right out of the box.

Also, I would trust Wossner. I’ve had one crank rebuilt with them.

I have a Pro X wheel bearing kit sitting on my desk now with a "made in taiwan" sticker on it. Seems they are outsourcing a bit now

I won't run their pistons anymore but so far rods have been fine. I had a piston split in half at 5 hours on our YZ250. Debatable on cause but enough for me to just stick with other brands for now. I have tried their full cranks & it was a nice part everything was labeled "Made in Japan" on it. It was on a used bike that had a HotRods crank in it so no core to rebuild. Figured I'd give it a shot...

I wound up going with the Pro-X because of availability, I figured if Cooksey swears by them they're probably a pretty reliable piece.

In case anyone was wondering, I got the Pro-X kit Tuesday. Everything is still labeled as Made in Japan for the rod kits at least.Smile

Just because they have a global sourcing strategy doesn't immediately mean they are sourcing junk components.

Pro-X (and other companies) still spec the design and quality level of the parts they put their name on.

FWIW....I can't think of any OEM or aftermarket company bearings that are actually made by that company. They all source through bearing manufacturers.

If you want USA made bearings, Timken is probably the best bet.

Sorry but Timken has outsourced to China and Taiwan, maybe not all but a large portion.

Your best bet for non Chinese/Taiwanese bearings are to buy OEM.
