Anybody use some kind of radio for communication while riding? If so, wondering what brand/kit works well for you?

It is not within the rules to do that.

Why don't you re-read his question and try again.

Sena or Cardo Pack Talk is popular for crotch rockets on the roads

I took it to be "racing" and not "riding" and you are correct.

We use the chatterbox units, have by far the longest range.

So does it mount to your helmet and do you just use earbuds or something?
There’s 2 small speakers that are included. Depending on your helmet, it may already have provision for them behind the cheek pads. Otherwise you just trim away the foam to make room. And then the head unit has a base plate that clamps onto your helmet, no screwing through or drilling holes.

Sena SMH10s have worked well for us. They don’t have crazy range, but are sufficient for trail riding.

What would you guess the range is?

Also, I’m a total noob to this but I assume you can connect multiple ones? Do they just run on a certain frequency?

They advertise it as 980yds, but I don’t think it would do that even in a completely open area. I’d guess around half that, on average. If it’s heavily wooded, even less. We usually stay together, so it’s not that big of a deal. It’s just a lot easier than pulling up beside someone and screaming through the helmet! I’ve only used 2 at a time, but they say up to 4 can connect.

How does chatterbox compare to Sena for woods/dual sport riding?

Obviously no woods here for me to comment on, but on some of our rides we can hear each other 1.5-2mi apart with some hills and ridges in between. The chatterbox works via radio frequency rather than Bluetooth thus the range and reliability.

I have Sena units and the range stinks. Awesome when there is no obstructions or your riding together but terrible if there is any elevation change. That being said in helmet communication was a game changer for my son (3 years old). Dropped a ridiculous amount of time on his laps and I was able to keep his head forward and let him know to move to the side if a fast group was coming. For any moto dads its a must. I regret not buying something sooner. I am looking into chatterbox now for the range.
