I hope it's not frowned upon to "advertise" here, but I want to share our new motocross apparel line. PRVTR (Privateer) Ride Shop is an apparel company built specifically to help privateers. We are starting small, but the more we grow, the more we will be able to do. Currently, up to 15% of our sales will be added to a pot and at the end of each MX and SX season, we will be distributing the top 50% to the winner of the PRVTR Party Fund and the rest of the pot to the other eligible riders. This is something unique that we came up with that really allows any eligible rider to win.
We are currently only supporting the AMA 450cc Pro MX and SX classes, but would love to branch out as we grow. #1, Whenever I hear "up to" I immediately assume that most of the donation % is way less than that number and only 1 or 2 products actually pay out the 15% with the rest way below that. IMO, you need to determine your number where you can meet your margin and then come up with a flat % that gets donated back.If it's 8% or10%, just state it in plain laymans terms and it wont come across as shady. There are too many "loss leader" advertising campaigns out there and it makes me really skeptical whenever I see "up to".
#2. How do you plan on being transparent with this concept. If enthusiasts jump in and start buying from you to "support the sport" how can we be certain that you aren't some shyster that is pulling at heartstrings and then running away with the money. I'm not suggesting you make the company's bank statements public, but making it transparent would be a good thing.

#1 - The reason we decided on "up-to" is that we have literally no idea what we will make and we also don't want our profits being publically known (our donation amount will be public). Our goal is to do more than 15%, but we're starting with nothing and hoping for the best. IT WILL NOT be some lousy number like 5%. It will be as close to 15% as possible. It's the main reason why our t-shirts are $29 because most sales will be t-shirts and we want to make sure we can comfortably donate back from those. But again, 15% is just a starting number. It may go up before the end of SX if we get enough sales. It will just all depend. Heck, if we could get that number up to 30% we would be extremely happy!
#2 - It's simple - we will be reaching out to riders starting this week, getting them informed and up-to-date on who we are, what we are doing, and how we want to help them. Also, on our website, Instagram/Facebook, Reddit, and this forum we will be posting our weekly update on the PRVTR Party Fund leader. The page is currently hidden on the site because the season hasn't started yet.
Yes, some people don't understand what a business is. Yes, we need to make money in order to do this (I am a full-time web designer and I am doing this on the side). No, we don't want to make a million dollars and keep it for ourselves. But we do want to profit and grow. And we want to help the sport while doing so. We've put countless hours into creating this and it may fail tomorrow. At the end of the day, we just want to support this great sport and this is our way of doing it. Some people want to be sour about it and that's just fine with me. Welcome to America.
