Two different things.
Vaccine is 95% chance you won’t GET IT.
Virus is 99% chance you’ll SURVIVE IT.

-Let’s say 10,000 people don’t get the vaccine. At 99% success rate, that means 9,900 survive and 100 die.

-Now let’s say 10,000 people got the vaccine. Since it’s 95% effective, that means 9,500 people don’t even get COVID. The remaining 5%(500 people) still get COVID, and 99%(495 people) of those 500 survive. To sum it up, that’s 9,500 people who never got COVID, 495 that got it and survived, and 5 that got it and died.

So it’s roughly 100 deaths vs 5 deaths per 10,000 people. How many people are on the planet?

Still not getting the vaccine anytime soon, just putting it in perspective.
oh, I completely understand the math, but if you have your full faith in Big Pharma and our worthless gubmint to not fuck it up, you go for it Big Man. I shall pass on this go around.

Here’s the thing. If person A and person B are in the same room.

Person A wants the vaccine (fine)
Person B doesn’t want the vaccine (also fine)

Why does person A care what person B does? Person A thinks they protected themselves. That’s great for them. Person B isn’t ruining your life by not taking the vaccine. And person B is protected supposedly because A got it and they’re in the same room.

...It’s a choice. Get it or don’t but don’t bastardize the ones that don’t get it. And don’t bastardize those that do get it. It’s real easy. Leave it up to the individual.
Except person A might not be immune. Vaccines don't always take. Aint you a nurse?

My sister-in-law is a CNA studying for her RN. She works in a hospital.

She will decline the vaccine, since she is breastfeeding and that indication is not recommended.
She has also told me that the vaccine she knows about could be harmful to females of childbearing age and also may only be good for 6 months. If that's the case, my daughter is OUT because of the former, and I am OUT because of the latter (at least for repeated doses). We'll see about my son, but my wife is against it until we know long-term side effects.
I'll allow others to get the vaccine for a while until all the statistics come into clearer view.

UPDATE: I just read several snapshots about the vaccine's duration, and none of then state any knowledge about how long immunity will last. Therefore, my post about it only lasting 6 months was incorrect.

I appreciate you correcting that. When I saw that I was definitely going to pass even on future batches.

One of my good co-worker friends is going to be getting it Saturday. She's also on the schedule to work that day. I have heard that it actually can make you pretty sick for a couple days, so they aren't giving it all our employees at the same time. I'm holding off on getting it for now. I'll let you know how her experiment goes
I know you are in health care and hearing that it can make one sick for days is not good at all. The more I hear about this the more convinced I am that I’ll take my chances with getting the virus. I’m not anti vaccines at all but this one concerns me

Comes down to risk/reward for me. Risk of catching and serious health implications/death vs an unproven vaccine. Pass for me for now.
I think a lot of people will think along the same lines, I expect rules will be implemented to ‘persuade’ the masses to achieve herd immunity. It will start with traveling abroad and progress to cinemas/music concerts etc.

I'm pretty sure I had it. It was a the Flu for a couple of days, followed by three weeks of hacking cough. I've yet to be tested and really don't plan on it one way or the other.

Too many unknowns in the vaccine. Rushed out in eight or nine months. Side effects, sterility. Is the cure worse than the cause?

Same with my wife. Never gets sick, but coughed so hard she cracked 2 ribs. Also went on for about 3 weeks. For me, it was just vomiting for a few hours over 2 days, a fever and feeling like crap for a couple more days after the vomiting ended.

I was actually laid up still from having double inguinal surgery 3 weeks earlier , i got sick and while vomiting i passed out , i woke up to my 4 year old standing over me crying and my wife on the phone with 911. Back in March though they told us like 3 people in the whole country had it because it hadn't spread yet , i'm starting to think that was false .

That's me, never get sick. The cough, my girlfriend was "we need to take you to a doctor", me "Nah, all I've got is this cough". No idea how I would have contracted it.

On my ride to work this morning, they were saying on the radio that one of the side effects is Bell’s Palsy. The next words out of there mouth were, it should go away in 1-2 months. I think I’m going to pass for now. From what they are saying it won’t even be an option until May or June. As Dio would say, we’re the last in line. Lol

Sort of, advanced practice nurse. Adult gero acute care. Board certified... (I’ve worked in the icu units my whole career where all the scary monitors and noises are) even I’m no microbiologist. I was making the point why do you care if I get it and you don’t get it ? I’m Not an immunologist. I try to stay up to date with the most recent publications during my treatment. And treatment guidelines change literally every week it seems.

Might not be immune? Are you saying there’s a question about the 95% effectiveness ? Not sure entirely what you’re getting at. Or.....maybe this what you’re sayin.....So you care because possibly it didn’t take with me? So In turn you’ll get it ? Ok, well I still don’t care either way if you get it or don’t get it.....

Neutral tone. Personal choice. That’s it.

I could be way off here, but I think it’s been around since late 2018 or early 2019. Maybe even earlier. There weren’t any diagnosis because no one knew what it was. No one went to get tested and the doctors didn’t know what to test for. We had it between Thanksgiving and Christmas 2019. Doctors couldn’t figure it out. Thought it was flu or pneumonia but tested negative for both. They just didn’t know(not their fault), and chalked it up to “something viral.” Fast forward a few months and all of a sudden there’s a global pandemic. Get the antibodies test(with absolutely no other illness between the time we were sick and the test) and it’s positive.

See are125 thats how you treat at the primary care or walk in urgent care level: Test em for flu a and b, and look for bacterial infection if it’s all negative.... You get diagnosed with virus of unknown origin. then they say go home. Drink plenty of fluids and get rest. And people usually get pissed they don’t get an antibiotic with that diagnosis....because you don’t need anytning but supportive care.

I didn’t go to the dr, it was my wife that did. She had it the worst. Due to chest pain, they did an x-ray and found the cracked ribs from coughing, gave her a prescription for her cough, and another for doxycycline, which coincidentally ended up being one of the medications discussed early on about possibly being a treatment for COVID. She never received a COVID-19 diagnosis(I’m assuming because it “didn’t exist” yet). Her diagnosis was inconclusive. Later she tests positive for the antibodies. lol

How accurate is the antibody test? I saw at Kroger pharmacy that they offered them for $25. The story with my wife, Mom, Dad and myself is almost exactly what you described. Me personally, I had a cough and chest congestion that would come and go for about 2 months from mid November to mid January.
Am I right in thinking we should get an antibody test before even contemplating the vaccine?

NOTE: I'm not using Vital for medical advice. But I am interested in what others think, have experience and is concerned with.

No one has died from the vaccine yet, so your numbers are skewed.
