IF any retired could return and win again it would be Dungey. How quick we forget how good this guy was and how prepared and committed he was. RD wouldn't be interested if he didn't know he could compete with the top riders. would love to see him race again
He won because Tomac choked. Those days are over. On any brand BUT KTM hes top 5 maybe.

Damon Bradshaw was prob closest who wasn't gone due 2 injury. Just 21 in his first retirement, won 19 250 SX mains; returns and never was the same. Glimpses, but no regular podiums, let alone top 5 SX's. One of the greatest natural talents imo.

Dungey's 31 today, in fact. Happy BD Ryan. Retired end of '17 SX, now 3.5 seasons removed. Doubt trains n practices as the HOF racer he was and continues being on the human side. Nothing to gain imo also. Always seemed wise beyond his years.

Ted Williams would really like to have a word with you.....

He missed 3 full seasons to fly a fighter plane in WWII and parts of 1952 and 1953 to fly in the Korean War. Did pretty well afterwards.

SX/MX or the other 3 major US sports alone far more physically demanding than baseball ever was or is.

Had Muhammad Ali in the can 3 yrs late '60s refusing be drafted that never looked the same from Frazier 1 on imo.

Greg LeMond prob the most remarkable after gone 2 TdFs in a row, winning following 2 Tours '89/'90 n World RR Champ '89.

Whether baseball is as physically demanding as another sport isn’t the point. Your statement was that you had yet to see an athlete in ANY sport have a HOF career after being several years removed.

Now you know of at least one.

Tomac beat himself more than Dungey beat him.

Michael Schumacher, arguably one of the most talented F1 drivers ever to live, retired in 2006, came back in 2010. After he came back he was as never the same, some say his car wasn’t competitive, but he struggled to keep up with his younger teammate.
