Don't wait to change the front wheel bearing, ours locked up entering a corner and he cartwheeled pretty good. Thankful that it wasn't a jump..... Ours had no seals on either bearing, no grease either. Bike had maybe 3 hours on it when it happened.
Thanks. What's the sealed bearing part number? Where did you buy them?

Camp, use aftermarket bearings like Pivot Works. They come double sealed.

Cant speak on the 65 but my boy has been running a 19 85, same motor as the 65. He has put 120hr on it only thing I've done is 2 top ends and clutch. Head bearings and front wheel bearings didn't last long.

There is some good information in this thread, as I will be purchasing a yz65 within the next year and will definitely keep these things in mind.

KTM = 116.6lb dry

YZ65 = 134lb wet.

Roughly a 10lb difference apples to apples.

Well, we blew 3rd & 4th gear out of the 65sx today at 145hrs. My buddy loaned us his spare YZ for the last practice and Hayden said he liked the YZ motor better because it pulled harder mid to top than the SX and he didn't notice the weight difference. He liked the SX suspension better but it's his and set up for 60lbs where the YZ is set up stiffer for 85lbs. that's all the feedback I could get out of an 8yr old..

If you look at the FMF for the YZ65 and and YZ85 (2019 and newer) theyre pipes are very different in shape. Most pipe manufacturers almost copy the std pipes to a tee.

Our FMF for the KTM was as identical as I could measure with the only difference being an oval silencer instead of round. The bike was crisp and snappier but that could have been from all the carbon buildup inside the stock system at 90hrs...

For slipdog, people always have stuff in stock.

I'm just floored he is putting his kid on an underpowered, overweight race machine.

Same bottom-end...which surely contributes to the weight; but, makes a VERY durable 65.

I can't even imagine being a kid his age way back in the day and finding that under the tree. And kids have it so much better than what we had to work with back then.

I agree. All I dreamed of as a kid was a dirtbike next to the tree(never happened)

As a dad, and just thinking of surprising my boy with this thing gets me all watery eyed.

Broke it in at the house today and hitting Hangtown tomorrow for the first track day. The stock suspension is a bit stiff for his whopping 62lbs but he likes it so far.

Is the power valve adjustable by any means.

OEM offers one set lighter springs (which is what we did for daughter @ 62 lbs) and one set heavier springs from stock and the lighter springs worked really well for her.

Been really pleased with the YZ so far, up to 110 hours now. Piston change at 50hrs ea and they look really good (still in spec) and she is not easy on the bike. Changing oil about every 3-4 hours and air filter essentially each ride and so far so good.

I don't think so but I've not worked on one yet. Definitely has off idle jetting issues. It's dammed fast after a sputter and bog.

I don't know if they make one for the 28PWK but I was going to look into it. I have a Lectron from our KTM I'm going to try to fit on tomorrow. If it fits it still may need a different metering rod
