Hey Mark I have a question maybe you could help me with, I've been tinkering with the '87 I have and I'm having an issue with the kick starter skipping down when I go to kick it over, I pulled the cover off and noticed from the IPB that it requires two of those 20mm thrust washers, one on each end of the pinion gear...Wait, as I'm writing this I think I just figured out what my issue is, I only have two of those thrust washers and the IPB shows it having three on there. I think only having two is why my gear is slipping, the spindle moves outboard as you kick and those 20mm thrust washers is what keeps it in place against the inner clutch cover. I just ordered a few more of those washers and that should fix it, hopefully!
It's been a challenge but I think I'm making progress, I had to use a used '89 cover and use the '87 water pump (luckily the original water pump was good) I'm hoping I wont have to mess with the HPP. I know I keep saying I'll post a topic of it soon and I will..life gets in the way sometimes..

Made a little progress the last couple of days. Who ever mentioned the seat cover was fun, you were right. I didn’t buy the stitched one on purpose, but I’m sure it goes on easier. I like the one I have, but very difficult to stretch and make right. Still I didn’t get it perfect, I believe it is slightly farther back than I wanted, but I don’t know if I want to rip it off and start over. Visual progress, but may work on the engine this weekend now that I have some parts in.


Seat looks great!! I am just starting a resto on an "87 and was wondering where you got the seat cover with the lettering already on it.. Thanks in advance!

Bought the cover on EBay.... $35 by Pit Replica and came from Thailand. Yes, I was skeptical about everything, but I ordered it and I have to say it didn’t disappoint. I found a couple of others here, but I didn’t want a two piece cover. This one matches the original look best. I have raced my bike for a full season and the seat still looks great. Trust me when I say they are a bear to put on though. A lot of seats you see have a big wrinkle near the bend because they didn’t install it correctly. Either take it to a professional or get ready for a fight... lol. You can do it, but seriously you have to stretch the heck out of it and have a good staple gun. Anthony Moore @ Aveomx has a seat cover here if you want to check with him also.... more expensive, but here in the USA. Mine came in 2 weeks. Good luck

RAL 5005 Signal Blue. I don’t know if this is the true correct color, but it looks great and I’m not sure you ever know the difference
