Ah I understand. I have seen people recommend both RAL2001 (Red Orange) and RAL2002 (Vermilion) but I've never seen them compared side by side with, say, some new OEM plastic to see which one is closest.

RAL 2002 is the closest powder coat colour for the 86 & 87 (orange) CR's also RAL 5005 is a good match for the shock spring.

So I’m nearing the finish line. I need to put the new chain on and do all the fluids. After that, do a good once over and hopefully fire her up. I’ll post some good pics in the next couple of weeks after the completion. Thanks for following, I’ve learned a lot on this build so far

Bikes starting to come together. Once I got the engine installed, I was able to move along with the carb and hook up some cables. I spent quite a bit of time installing the Pro circuit pipe that was restored. I had forgotten how little clearance everything has. Put some plastics on, kick starter, and a few other things and I think she’s coming together nicely. A few things on this build have fought me a bit, and I realize how many things were just not right on this bike. It takes a lot of time to get all the right parts, hardware, etc...but it’s going to be worth it. The finish lines in sight

He's an aircraft mechanic. The ones I know are very neat and organized. Maybe even a little OCD at times.

To Mark_Lynch - Beautiful bike man. Loved all the detailed pictures. Until one does this level of a build they will never know the immense amount of time spent working on the little things.

Haha...sounds like you know me. Yep, maybe a little OCD in some ways, but I blame that on my dad. I grew up with motorcycles and airplanes all around. He was and still is crazy good at almost anything. Thanks for the kind words on the build. Maybe I’ll look for a 125 next. Putting in a pic of my other garage....yah I like to be organized. Lol

Jesus! What year is the 'vette? My next focus will be my old man's 51 Chevy pickup.

That Harley looks a little too close to the Vette! lol

Here is a rebuild I did on my 1989 CR250. Not close to a nut and bolt, just refurb back to race shape.

I did a total restore on my 1979 CR250 some years back. My shop is always a disaster as you can see.

58’ 283 2x4 carb 245hp.....it was a project done a few years ago. The bike was built by my dad and painted to match his Beech Debonair he’s owned for over 40 years. I put the pipes and bags on later. The 51’ will be quite a project I bet and probably has some sentimental value there since it was your dads. I put the chain on and did a few things to the carb today on the bike. Next week I’ll post some final pics after I get it running.

Love both of those bikes. Wow, the 79’ is awesome. Can’t ever remember seeing one in person with that paint job on the tank. Really cool. You should be proud of a restore like that....great work! I know how painstakingly hard a job like that is. I hope you still have it just so you can walk by and admire it daily.....lol

Thanks for the reply and kind words Mark.

I do have the 79 still! You can see it's rear wheel in the pic of the 1989. The tank graphic is actually a decal.

I raced the 79 in AHRMA for a bit so it got some wear on it. I am actually going to tear it back apart and make it nicer.
I got an actual, original, Fox banana swingarm for it now and I replaced the Air Shox with Fox proper 17.5" spring shocks.
I already had the 44mm Fox Forx and clamps on it on the first build so the bike will actually have all the Fox period parts on it including really rare Fox FIM side panels. Can't find the Fox handlebars so far but still on the bucket list!

Not looking forward to all the work, but it will be even better in its' 2.0 version. Will do a build thread on it for sure. Glad you like it!

What coolant are you going to run in the magnesium case?
I’ve used this in all my bikes for a long time and never had a problem.

Final pics.....this may be the last time it looks this good. Thanks to everyone who followed and commented. It’s been a great build and a learning experience for me. There’s some other threads I’m following on here and some awesome builds. Keep up the good work boys!

Very nice, Mark. I may have some questions for you on my 87 CR125 build. In fact, here's one...how did you get the swing arm looking so good?

Thanks buddy!! Yes.... all the plastics from UFO. I have the originals and I’ll finish restoring them sometime, but not now. I want to get this thing out to the track....lol.

Ask any questions you want. I’ve touched every piece of this bike along the way. Swingarm.,.. no secret to just degrease everything. I used my 90 degree die grinder with 2” scotch brite pads to take out any really rough spots. Then my sander with scotch brite to smooth the surface. Then by hand, straight smooth strokes with sand paper to give it the brushed aluminum look. Use 240 or 400 grit lightly depending on the finish you want. I could have made it look like chrome, but I’m not a fan of that look on these older bikes. I know everyone does it differently, but I like the look I got this way. Hope this helps. Cheers

Thanks Rupert ! Glad to be one step closer to the track. I quit racing a couple years ago when my buddy was paralyzed during an event we were doing in Ft Worth together. So I’m ready to see the track again. I’ve been on 4 strokes for a good while, but hopefully the feel of a 2 smoker comes back quick. Thanks again. Cheers!

Thanks, Mark. I'm aiming for the same look. I don't want polished. If you look at my thread I polished the chain guide, but will give it a scrub with some sandpaper.

Do you happen to have a rear brake pedal for sale?

No sorry I don’t. Brake pedals and kick starts are hard to come by. Mine was bent, but I was able to rework it into nice condition.
