Nice Blazier.

I grew up on rural properties, and XRs were the perfect paddock bike for kids like me.
I had an XR80 and 100, my old man had a 200 then a 400.

In hindsight, not very cool but iconic bikes that really grew my love for all things 2 wheels before I started getting into Motocross

Could ya do a video of the XL100, most kids had that. Or tall 10 -12 year olds. We beat the crap of that 1978 xl100. . I broke a lot of rear spokes. I kinda forgot which hill I was on, ripping across the rolling hills. I,m in 5th gear wo 63 mph and launched , not gonna lie I was scarred. I started counting thousand 1, 2,3, 4. To calm myself. Landing broke spokes, head light, gas tank leaked. Riding at night on those hills was so fun.

Your lucky, xr80 r cool. I wanted a xr75 real bad. The farmer I worked for said your too big for that Big Wally- my nickname. He crashed the 100 1st week we had it. He is Polish and driving down the road, goes to adjust his glasses and drives into a ditch and flips it. Smile

In 1981...the fall...Dick Husted/Yvette Husted’s dad built an XL into an XR killer...
Pipe
Stiffer Suspension
Carb
Air-box
All sorts of trick stuff.

Those bikes were excellent scooters.

First bike was a 1977 XR75 !!! I loved that bike so much. XRs will always have a special place in my heart.

Dream bike for sure. I sat on 1 at the Honda dealer, I wanted it so bad. Everything about it was so cool, grips where a big thing at that age. And the xr75 had red ones. And knobby tires, # plate, cool pipe, etc I thought the xl100 with all those lights was stupid. I told him that,s a Grandpa,s bike, blinkers I don,t need blinkers and a tail light . A stupid light to tell me I,m in neutral. My dad took my trail 70 away, the farmer was basically buying a bike for the both of us. Which was cool

My first XR was the K0, then a K2 and finally a ‘77 K4. Great bikes. I have a CRF100 in the shed that still reminds me of those great bikes.

Back in 1980 my Dad had a XL185, it had twin shock rear suspension. I was 10 years old and not tall enough to ride it, so I backed the preload adjusters on the shocks all the way out and lowered the seat height as much as possible, used a milk crate to climb aboard and ripped it all over the backyard trails we had. It sat so low in the rear it was like a chopper, amazingly it railed corners like no other bike and I rode it more than my YZ 80.

I have a friend who could ride any bike and in the 80s he rode an XR200 in New England enduros and did quite well. He just felt it’s mellow engine suited the tight New England trails.
