broken petcock cause engine flood ?

Can a broken petcock cause the carburetor to flood ? If it does do I replace it or if it isn't can it be the float and needle ?

Duh...Constant fuel flow....You should have known....Replace the "Cock"....ASAP, but check your float level also, it should cut off the flow so it doesn't flood.

If fuel is running out the carb vent then your float is not adjusted properly or something is causing the float needle to stick open (or the float is bad or binding). It's the float that controls how much fuel gets into the float bowl. However, if the petcock is not shutting the fuel off it could cause the carb to overflow while hauling your bike on a trailer as the float bounces around and lets the bowl fill more than it would sitting still.

I assumed we were talking an average MX bike (125/250/450/etc). xwrench probably answered your question.

it wasnt in a trailer i was riding it after a year or so in the garage . . . and after 30 minutes of running the carb flooded

It sounds like you have a stuck needle & seat or trash in it so it will not seat properly.

No, as I said before the petcock should not have a thing to do with flooding, your float needle controls the amount of fuel that gets into the carb. The petcock is just on or off. xwrench mentioned if you have a special type of petcock that may not be true but by looking at the parts breakdown you have a plain old petcock. You just have one hose going to the petcock right? If so then the problem is in your carb. But now that you say it happens after 30 minutes of riding I don't think it's the float but something else. After riding 30 minutes is there fuel leaking out of the carb vent? If no fuel is venting overboard then your float/needle is probably alright. What exactly makes you think it's flooding? Can you describe the exact symptoms and sequence of events that lead you to believe it's flooded? If it really is flooding I would just tear the carb down, clean it up good with some carb cleaner, check the float level, make sure no jets are plugged and try again. Also, what exactly is broken on the petcock? If you disconnect the fuel line from the carb you are unable to shut it off?

The petcock doesn't turn on or off i tried turning it it doesn't do anything but let out alot of gas, And yes gas was leaking out of the carb vent

ok heres how it went, I started it up, and started to ride it on and offroad, after about 30 minutes of riding, i stopped, and then kick started it, but then it would take alot of kick starts, I looked at the carb and it was leaking alot of gas out of the carb vent. I then called one of my buds who was a mechanic and he thought it was the float so he bent a little metal piece on it to push the needle farther up into the seat, after about 5 to 10 tries of doing this the gas would still be leaking gas through the carb. I havent tried testing to see if the float floats, but I'm pretty sure it works and when i tried the needle it looked perfect with a hard rubber tip. I did clean the carb a little bit just to find out a little bit of sand of holding the choke at a halfway spot, but I fixed that and I cleaned the carb out (almost) I didnt use a carb cleaner.

If it's flowing out the vent it is definitely a float/needle issue because what that means is the bowl is filling with gas and the float is not shutting it off. It is either sticking or you have crap in there but there is no doubt it's a float issue. That's not to say once you fix the float so the fuel shuts off you don't have another problem. I would definitely tear it apart, clean it all up, make sure the float is set properly and is working and go from there.
