Santa Barbra, CA - just moved to the area.

Hello vital enthusiast. My name is Craig 30 year old male, moto lover. Long time “lurker” on these here forums. Any way this is about me just moving to lovely Santa Barbra California. I moved from up north, Santa Cruz. Grew up riding hollister hills and mainly 408mx when it was open. Both about 40Min trip one way from my old town. So my question is about riding spots. Anyone here have some good spots. I know I been looking on google they have some ohv trails. And I been to balinger canyon a few times growing up. Loved that place. I’m all for fun trails and moto tracks. I know you can get up on the ridge fire road trails. Just not sure how to do legally is my main concern. Would like to link up with anyone to moto with. If you head to Gorman or LACR let me know. Those are my local tracks. And welcome to So Cal. Never got to ride 408, but grew up racing GFI north even though I have always lived in So Cal. Hollister was always a favorite along with Oatfield and Carnegie.

I was living in Ventura and after Zaca closed Gorman and LACR where the closest choices. Glen Helen next but the traffic always sucked going home. I never really searched for trails but I heard there wasn't much.

Unfortunately all of the local tracks have gone under up in this area in the last couple years (Zaca, enticknaps, Castillo ranch) so you have to do some driving either north (Dt1) or south (lacr, glen helen, etc). For some cool single track riding you can head up Refugio mountain. The trails are pretty rough and rocky and technical especially right now with our lack of rain but they have some beautiful views of the coast. Also there is Divide Peak up on East Camino Cielo.

Thank you everyone for the tips on this. I really appreciate it. Found a few other places to go from locals also. So really happy.

I second Gorman. Fun trail systems. I usually head down every other year from Seattle. Grew up riding there. Couple pics from October.

Not sure of any moto spots there but you have some of the best DH trails. It's been a while but back in the day we would do Tunnel, Cold Spring, San Ysidro and Knapps Castle. Not sure about Knapps these days.

Highly suggest you hook up with a local bike shop and try out some downhill rigs. You're going to want to shuttle those trails so hopefully you can get in on some shuttle runs with folks at the bike shop who know where to park, etc.

And hang onto your wallet. Santa Barbara is a pricey town.

Thanks again for the help everyone. I rode Divided Peak ohv this morning. Wow place was so awesome. I grew up riding trails in hollister hills. So this place was so fun. Great fast wide open fire roads and then so many options on single trails. Fun tech rocky ones. I kinda got lost a bit because nothing is really marked. Gonna explore it more for sure. Just got my boots wet to check it out. Met a few locals already up there. My moms originally from there so I been going there since I was born. With the wallet mention, luckily my Granpa did really great for himself and moved to a smaller house nearby and left the house I moved into for the family. I’m looking forward to getting back to Gorman and more down south trips to fox raceway and places like that.

The photo is a shot from the back yard. Doesn’t do it justice how nice it is. And I lived in Santa Cruz, Ca born and raised so its pricey there also with way more tree huggers.

Hey Craig! My name is Seth and I live not to far from you on the west side near Mission St. We have a pretty good group of moto guys and mainly ride LACR now that Zaca is gone. Rode the Gorman track a few weeks ago for the first time in about 15 years and it was pretty fun also. They close and fully prep the Gorman track on Wednesdays so Thursday is good.

I was fortunate to live in Santa Barbara for a few months back in 08 working on a hotel renovation. Easily one of my favorite places.
