Before I get smoke checked...I’ve literally sat on my phone all day researching all this stuff lol. My question for those willing to actually answer...I’ve got a 2016 250sx...right now I run 91 pump gas with maxima 927 50:1...I’ve been running 927 since I was on a pw50 because my dads been a die hard dude with it since dinosaurs walked. The bike runs pretty good right now just a little excess carbon build up on the top of the piston and a TINY bit inside the silence no splooge though.. I’m not an A rider but I’m not bogging the ol girl either I stay on the pipe. I’ve also been reading that mixing 50/50 with pump gas and C12 is good for the 2 strokes because it keeps them running a little cooler? I’m out in North Carolina and it seems like every track out here is a sand track not to mention hot and humid every day. So is it worth running the c12 and maybe switching oils? I’ve read a lot of arguments about 927 vs super M etc...just want people’s opinion on what they use and what works well/keeps the motor in good shape the longest as well as what ratios they use for oil. I want to say the ktm manual says to run 60:1 and my entire life I ran 32:1 in my 80/85’s and 125...Anyways... Thanks in advance!

Go by the manual as a lot of testing has gone in to that information. Even magazines have questioned the KTM spec's, but have concluded that the KTM mix is the best for that product.

Will do...I know KTM recommends using their brand of oil but it’s nearly twice as much as everything else. Is the motorex oil worth it? What difference will it make suing that versus a maxima or other brand oil?

I don’t think you will find an oil that protects better than 927. I recently switched to it because of that. I used k2 and motul 800 before that. Running 50:1 in a 14 250sx. I’m more than ok with having to clean my powervalve more often

I run 50:1 right now as well...you ever experiment with the 60:1 like KTM recommends? Just curious if it’s noticeable and okay to use riding in hot climates with sand tracks mainly...or if I’m just being overly safe with running 50:1 for no reason other than burning more oil than I need.

I have friends that have ran what the manual recommends with good results. If I ran motorex then I would have no problem trying it out. I’ve had good luck with 50:1 in sandy conditions so I think I’m going to stick with it

This guy is extremely knowledgeable and is a poster on here. Check his site out and this link on 2 stroke oil

Oh no, another oil thread.. LOL

I avoid 927 or any Castor oil like the plague. It carbons everything up so bad. In the days of modern synthetics there is no reason to run castor oil and deal with that mess. I know, I know.,., but the smell...... LOL It also is horrible for your carb if you let it sit in there during long periods of storage. Castor oil breaks down into stearic acid and stearic acid is corrosive to brass. I had a to chuck a PWK off a YZ250 because the previous owner let 927 sit in it over the winter.

I personally stick to 32:1 or 40:1, especially on 125cc or smaller and especially if you're a revver or riding sand. But I think modern oils are so good anywhere from 32:1 to 60:1 is fine as long as you're jetted properly for it.

125 guy here, but 32:1 Castor 927 Mixed with C12 in the mod bike and 927 at 32:1 with 110 in the stock bike. Never have to clean my powervalve due to excessive oil and my top end always looks excellent.

I switched from synthetics to 927 and am very happy. That said, I am very particular about jetting, and drain and flush mrx02 with c12 each time so no carb problems. I switched because of the excessive scuffing I was dealing with, but to be fair, I was a morron and using mc1 for some reason and not something better... I have been very pleased with 927 though.

Hmmm you got me thinking about running 110 now. I’m running 50:1 with 93...I think I might bump it to 40:1 just because it’s allllll sand out here and I’d rather spend an extra 41¢ of oil per jug than blow up the bike lol. Do you think the 110 makes a big difference in cleanliness of the motor? I’ve heard dudes saying not to run higher octane because it’ll ping etc...

I run Klotz super techniplate at the 50:1 ratio recommended on the bottle in my 19 250sx. It's 80% synthetic, 20% castor and smells great. I think 50/50 pump gas and c12 mix on a stock 250sx is likely way overkill. I've run 25% c12 to 75% california piss 91 on my 150sx with no negative results just to bump octane a bit and add some lead. My 250sx is usually run on pump gas and no issues. Just some other ideas for ya.

Get a high compression head and use the 110/c12. Win win lol

My motors definitely come out cleaner, better throttle response, run smoother and cooler. I spent a lot of money on my bikes, I don't mind paying 60 or so dollars for a pail of 110 for a stock bike. If it pings just mix non ethanol 90 and 110 to lower octane rating.

Hell yeah thank you so much I’ll give that a try and see how it goes!
