I am seriously considering one, once they list the prices. I demoed a Turbo Levo and liked it. I like the SL version even better but the price goes up even more. If the lower model Yamaha is around the $4000 mark, then Id be a player. Id have to sell my Stumpjumper though, which is another issue. I cant justify 2 bicycles at $4000 and 3 motorcycles. So is that much money for an eMTB worth it, plus not having a traditional mtb? Id like to race a GNCC on one too, if i get one. But jyst not sure if its a something id enjoy to replace a Stumpjumper.

I would only replace my pedal bike with an e-bike if I couldn't realistically pedal anything anymore. (That day will come.)
I can see owning one in addition to a pedal bike though, and in fact, I may buy one for my wife so she can keep up with me on my standard bicycle. The Yamaha design looks cool. Heavier, but cool.
Based on the partial review, I bet the offerings from Specialized, YT, Etc. will be better MTBs with more advanced components.

Looking forward to a review from a mtb source. Motorcycle branded e bikes seem to always be a step behind the specialist bicycle companies for some reason, probably relying on brand recognition for sales, though we are seeing a bit of innovation from Yamaha here.

I like the "PW X2" name. Kinda implies that it's TWICE the PW power!

I got an Intense Tazer a month ago and f'ing love it. I hadn't mountain biked for quite a few year so it was a bit of a leap of faith but now I ride every chance I can get. I just love that you don't have to blow yourself up on the hills just to have a short down hill so you ride way further and longer. Also there's never a wonder at a new trail whether a new loop will be too long or steep or whatever. You just show up and ride everything you can find until you have to leave. It's still a great workout too. Maybe if your area is super flat there would be no point but we have tons of hills here so it makes a huge difference.

Ya those rigs look pretty rad. Pretty much all of the reasons that you listed are why I want one. Lots of hills here. I just feel like it might be weird not being able to manhandle your bike over obstacles, like on a normal mtb?

And a few of you guys bring up a good point. Generally the bicycle specific brands are a step ahead. Def something to consider.

Do you just mean picking it up over a downed tree or something?

I've started to enjoy sketchy, rocky climbs because with the added torque its much easier to 'ratchet' over bigger rocks without having a pedal strike. You feel like a badass cleaning this stuff haha! There is for sure a learning curve to finding all the benefits of the pedal assist and I feel better on it every ride.

Not really that, I guess I should have clarified. When I rode one I just was riding on trails with some little whoops and ruts. Nothing technical. So I was thinking about on a more technical trail for log crossings, manuals, popping the front wheel up for a rock or bunny-hopping etc. I wasn't sure the manners of the bike for something like that.

But ya, all of the positives you listed, for sure, seem like it's sweet.

Ahh gotcha. Yeah it’s much easier to get through technical stuff than I would have thought for sure. And again with the added torque it’s super easy to pop the front wheel over obstacles. What I’m surprised about with the Tazer is how nimble it is like an XC bike and it also climbs very efficiently. But then it bombs down things and jumps like the enduro that it is. It’s seriously amazing what they did with the geometry of this thing.

I think the sizing of the new Yamaha Ebikes is a little bit off. The large reach 480cm looks good. The medium looks to be on the small side at 430 cm reach. 500w hour battery is standard or a bit on the smaller side or current bikes. It’s amazing where Ebikes can take you. Also impressive what they can do on the technical steep climbs.

How's the battery life? I'm mostly worried about running out of battery and then the ride turns into pedalling a 40lb mountain bike with no assist haha.
What's "tons of hills" mean to you? To me, a hilly ride is 2,500+ feet of climbing over 15+ miles. Can an E-bike go that long on a charge?

So mine has a smaller battery which is a 504w battery. I've only done 150 miles so far but usually my rides are around 15 miles and 1,000-1,500 feet of climbing so not super crazy. But at the end of that I have maybe used a quarter of the battery. The shimano motor seems to be pretty efficient compared to other brands that come with ~700w batteries. Also on the tazer you can just swap batteries too so if you do some huge climbs and a lot of miles its not a huge deal to just swap the battery if needed. I usually ride mostly in "trail mode" which is the middle mode as well. If you use more eco then obviously you'd get even more miles out of it. I was nervous about battery life too but I have found it to be no big deal at all. I've even tried to burn up a bunch at the end of the ride using boost mode but I still have never used even half the battery.

And I'm being kind of sarcastic and I know it's a bit of a silly thing, but to me it shows a little bit of a disconnect with the bicycle industry. They don't even market a Trek Verve with reflectors and a dork disc, even though most consumers that buy that bike will leave them on and not even care one bit about it (and probably prefer them). To put it in perspective it would be like Giro making a moto helmet and in the intro photos the model rider wears the visor all the way down. It may be an awesome super light, super safe lid with the latest and greatest technology, but come on... Or when Cannondale tried making a dirtbike.

I hear the Yamaha is more reliable than the Specialized Brose motor - so I'm interested.
I demo'd an older 2016 Turbo Levo and had a short ride with the motor overheating/slowing down after a continued climb.
I tried a 2020 turbo levo rental at Mammoth and had one good day, and the next the engine stopped - guessing the belt fragged but I dunno. Long pedal back.

Forums for the Levo show good service from local bike shops but bad reliability.

We picked up Specialized Turbo a couple months ago and its going well. These are coming to the US next year I have been told. Husqvarna Bicycles I know Husqvarna dealers will get chances to become dealers. I guess KTM dealers will be as well.

Although it’s really cool how reminiscent it is of the mid 70s Yamaha MotoBike! That split top tube brings back some long ago memories..

Our dealer carries them in WA & AZ, I have had a chance to demo a few models and they are a game changer. Not a replacement for MTB or cruiser bikes, but being able to cover more ground and get to cooler trails without being beat from the uphills is awesome.

That's what I have seen as well. I think they have the best performing motor from what I've read but they definitely lack in reliability. They probably sell 10x as many as other brands though. I'd like to try one out for sure.

Plenty of battery left after this ride. I’m fairly fat and use the motor quite a bit.
