What are some of the best redemption stories in Moro that you can think of? Could be professionally or even just personally. Perhaps it’s coming back from injury and becoming champion, or maybe it’s a rider or manager universally hated but turned a new leaf and is now respected and liked.
I’ll start: I think Mike Alessi and his dad are one of the great redemption stories of our sport. From out right hated to now mostly respected by many. From believe the hype shirts, to Tony running a respected team.
Obviously there have been a lot of bumps along the way. Not minimizing any of their previous actions.
I think it’s pretty cool they were able to turn a new leaf and how the fans grew to support Mike. And Tony seems like a night and day different person.
You got any favorites?
I’m hoping KRoc can become a champion again and put the stamp on his own story. He’s already exceeded my expectations of what I thought he could do coming back from injury.
I know there are many more out there. Let’s hear your favorites.

How about Emig getting fired after being arrested for being a stupid loady while walking across the Lodon Bridge at Lake Havabrew.....then winning the US Open on his own bike shortly thereafter.
J-law shutting-up all his outdoor doubters by smoking everybody in the first moto at Glen Helen?
Some stories of redemption are better than others I suppose...but in all seriousness, The first reply is aptly on the top of the thread and the list of redemption stories for me. Imagine raising to the greatness that CP370 achieved, coming from the darkness that he was facing prior to that.
Broken back. Comes back to racing. Then broke both his arms at the same track.
Cones back and wins a title. I believe his title year he won overall at the same track he had been hurt on.
Correct me if I’m wrong. But for sure he has overcome a lot!
Doug Henry would be a top pick for redemption.
Not sure it's really "redemption" but they're both certainly cases of two guys who far exceeded what was believed they would when they were amateurs.
RD5 literally went from being a decent guy in B class, nothing spectacular, no huge stack of LL's titles or other amateur titles, but pulled from a virtual obscurity by Cole Gress (Suzuki Am Team Mgr at the time) and was able to convince Decoster the kid was good, and he never disappointed, ever, and the rest is history.
RV2 was a fast amateur, pretty well known and feared, but he also live in the shadow of the great MA800 and DM18 battles. Mike was his usual holeshot king self, making everyone chase him, and usually it was Davi giving him a hard time with Ryan filling out the podium. Ryan would get his wins too, but in the big picture, the spotlight seemed to always be on the Alessi/Millsaps rivalry. Matt Goerke was also lost in there.
Goes without saying that RV2 would go on to be one of the greats with a fantastic win and title record
Davi is an honorable mention because once he'd been written off, he went to (the then) Rockstar Suzuki and came out swinging, winning the opener, being consistent on the box and leading the series in points for about halfway through, finishing 2nd to RV2 and ahead of RD5....that may be the redemption story....told you I had to think about it
Honorable mention to Matt Goerke as well, he did good in the US but was smart to take advantage of his travel opportunities, becoming German SX champion and then a multi-time Canadian champion. Again, making something of his career, after many had written him off.
He struggled in his early professional years which left him without a ride and he was working a construction job. He bought a "scratcher" lottery ticket and won $15,000 and he used that money to fund his own race program for the 1998 season. He was able to prove himself enough to earn a ride with Factory Connection Honda, where he won the 2002 west coast supercross title over James Stewart.
Pit Row
A name that comes to my mind is Dean Wilson. Even though he hasn't won a 450 main or moto yet, he still had a podium this year. After all those injuries he still is motivated and improving. Love that guy his attitude
