Hello guys new to the group, I bought a brand new 2020 kx450 from Polaris dealer, and after mayb 2-4 rides I hear tic noise like it’s the valves ticking or outta adjustment. I don’t race or anywhere near race ready, I just ride for fun. But has anyone else noticed this on the kawi?? Ima take it to the dealer and let them check it out because they have 1 year warranty

I just picked up a 2020 kx450 and this top end tick is really bugging me. From what I heard they are just noisy engines. I only have about 2 hours on mine so far and love the bike. Another concern I have is finding little metal shavings in the oil filter after the first oil change.
Starting to think I should have just bought a new yz250 for ease of maintenance And rebuilds but the kx is a great bike

The finger follower valve train is just noisy, but it is a good engine. Don't stress. Every new motor I have ever had has shown metal debris after the first oil change. It is at reliable as a current Yamaha? Probably not. But I guarantee it is more reliable that motors that 10 years ago you considered "bullet-proof". All the motors and bikes are so good now....

Lots of these at local tracks. Yes, there is more "ticking" with the finger followers than the older shim/bucket design. Go ride it! Change the oil frequently. :-)

Did you buy a 3rd party warranty policy when you bought the bike? I wasn't aware of warranty/insurance policies being sold by third party companies on race bikes. I imagine they're probably out there somewhere as it you've got enough cash you get get just about anything insured.

As the purchaser of a "new" KX450 I'm hoping you're aware the ONLY motocross/race bikes sold that come with a manufacturers warranty are the Austrian bikes. Kawasaki nor any other Japanese race bikes offer a written warranty. This fact says a lot about the Austrian manufacturers commitment to build a quality bike that they're willing to stand behind. VERY impressive that a manufacturer of a racing machine offers a written 30 day warranty with the purchase of their product.

I'm not starting a pissing contest about brands, rather just stating FACTS.

That's a pretty normal thing to happen after break in.

The engine is noisy. I have 70 hours on mine. There are a few things that you will need to fix (see the KX450 500 page thread) and then the bike seems pretty reliable. I have had no issues with the motor and have been happy with the reliability. Fix the clutch (get rid of judder spring), replace the chain rollers/ guide with TM Designworks, and beef up the muffler mount on the sub-frame. The ticking noise is common and not an issue. However, any dirt bike can have isolated circumstances that can make it blow up. I haven't heard of any on this particular model. Great bike after you tweak it a little.

Because Yamaha has had quite the track record of "quality" over the past few years. I'd venture to say they have had more blunders lately than kawasaki.

To the OP, the 19+ engine is just noisy. Its the valve train.

Wow. I'm truly surprised to hear this as I make it a point to keep up with these kind of things. Evidently I'm not doing a very good job keeping up. I'm actually shocked that Yamaha would stick their neck out without having to just to keep up with their Japanese counterparts. I'm also surprised the other brands didn't feel compelled to follow Yamaha's lead. If I were to switch from an Austrian bike to a Japanese it would be a Yamaha just for the 30 day warranty.

Does anybody know what year Yamaha initiated their 30 day warranty? That's a real big deal on a race bike and shows Yamaha's belief in their product.

I'd also like to thank you for correcting and educating me without rubbing my face in my mistake and not making it personal. I truly appreciate your response and the information provided.
