They should've flagged the yellow first a little further back......since the nearest flagger was no more than 20 feet from the one at the turn.

Everyone who watched the live broadcadst will know who won the race. It was the guy who got to the finish line first. JG

Alessi still knows he got beat.

Did this have an effect on Grant's overall finishing position?

Thanks. He fugged up, like the 250 riders, and thus penalized as were the 250 riders.

Grant would have been 3rd overall without the penalty.

Reed got 35 points for 3rd OA
Short got 35 points for 4th OA
Grant got 34 points for 5th OA after the penalty. He would have had 37 points and 3rd overall.

Grant was docked position and points. 9th in moto 1 for 12 points. 2nd place in moto 1 for 22 points. 12+22=34 points for the day.

Dam that sucks for him...... I doubt he did see it from watching tv but I dont know how long the flags were out looked like they just pulled them and he was commited whereas alessi saw them and was able to back off if Grant had backed off at the last minute on that jump (which I've seen in person) it would have been a real NASTY crash for JG

I agree!
I also think once again it's a "cluster fu*k" deal.
Could he even see?
Was there GLARE?
For sure there's reasonable doubt here hands down.
The Lites guys were different situations due to several facts.
One or the other is fair.
A position or points, not both.
Again, there's reasonable doubt here.
Personally, Jeremy of JGR should protest this ruling.
I would!

There should be a replay of the flaggers with that rule!

I was there and every other rider on the track didn't jump, he was the only one who did and he pulled about 3 seconds because of it on Reed and Alessi.

Prozach, since you were there why was the flag out? Where was there a rider down?

Just curious to get an eyewitness account. Was it overkill or justified to have the yellow/red flag out?

One things for certain!
Any other rider would have bailed in that left turn!
Josh's "ride'em cowboy" deal was awesome & a great recovery.
Props to Alessi for not "railing" him as well.
Woohoo Awesome racing!!!!!!!!Woohoo

I am just wondering if it like the usual BS where they are waving yellow flags because there is a stalled bike 3 turns ahead.

Having two different flags out was plain goofy.

The funny thing is....
If Alessi would have jumped that double, I do not think Grant would have been docked.
I think by Mike breaking hard and not doubling it, sorta caused Grant to look like the bad guy.(if that makes any sense)

Either way Mike did right by not jumping it and they both rode hella well today.

JLaw has a different history. I cannot see ANY reason to call JG a dumbass.

For the record, I personally see a lot of difference between the Lawrence deal and the Grant deal - in the Grant case, people who were there said they saw two flaggers in the corner, one waving the solid yellow and one waving the medic flag. I can't see docking a guy a position for being confused by that. The Lawrence deal, on the other hand, was just stupidity on Lawrence's part in my opinion.

For what ever it's worth, my son was one of the 250 rides docked a position. He said he saw the flag and did slow down a little, but still jumped as did the riders in front of him. He said as soon as he was in the air he thought "oh crap, that's one of the new flags". He saw the flag, but in the heat of the battle it didn't click right away. He said his initial instinct was another yellow flag. He has no problem being docked a position, those are the rules. Although if he was racing for first, instead of 28th he might feel different. His thoughts are the flag should be the white flag with the red cross. He isn't making excuses, but when a flag is waving, you just see a color. There already is a yellow flag out there, make it something different. Just .02 from one racers point of view.

I would not be surprised if this rule is quickly changed as far as the color of the flag goes. The rule in it self is sound but should probably have a signal flag that would not be misidentified.

Grant didn't see it... is not the same as Grant couldn't see it.
Alessi saw it so.... outside vs inside doesn't matter.
Did they address the flagging station of that section (jump) during the riders meeting? Anyone know?
